I watched several videos on how to change the belts on an Elantra. You're the first one to explain all the details that we need to know in tightening the belts.

The tensioner screw for my alternator belt comes loose on its own and i can’t figure out why. It’s getting worse and worse. I have to tighten it like every other day now

@@dannyboy768hey I also found that you have to loosen the 2 bolts Holding the alternator in before tightening the tensioner screw. So you loosen 2 the holding in, tighten tensioner, then retighten the 2 bolts holding in.

@@LucasG898Bro thank you soo much! I did what you said (except the blue loctite) and I haven’t had to tighten my belt this whole time and been driving around a lot. I took my car to TWO different shops, had it towed several times and went through like 3 belts. THANK YOU

The bracket here at 1:40 with the screw going into the alternator. then see the longer screw hanging out of the back of it, that's your tensioner screw. Kind of self explanatory let me know if you need further detailing but searching alternator replacement on Elantra will yield many videos showing how to reset tension on the belt in depth as well, because that's obviously needed after any belt driven accessories are replaced

I did my timing belt and water pump last night. Have a whining or chirping sound that gets louder as the engine revolves faster. I suspect either timing or one of the three outer belts are too tight. Really suspect timing belt too tight. It reminds me of a supercharged car when you can hear a whine louder and louder as the RPMs go up. Any ideas? Itll be easy to play with tension as long as the access bolt for tensioner is above lower timing cover, i dont remember, will double check soon. Either way its a pretty easy job. I didn't mess up timing alignment so I'm good there. I'll rip the whole damn thing apart if I have to again. Ths hardest part was cleaning the water pump gasket off the engine surface.
