There's a lady who has a 2013 Elantra and hit a million miles on hers without a rebuild to the engine. Her transmission though was replaced by a little over a half million miles. You can find that review on Google. I have a 2012 Elantra and I'm currently at 251,000 and some change. My 0nly issue was a crank sensor. Even at this point it doesn't burn or leak any oil and still no piston slap. I keep a record book on all my vehicles and equipment.

I've had my 2012 Elantra for about 6 years, has about 103,000 miles on it and it's been great. I've done all preventative maintenance items on time too. Only issue I've noticed is in the dead of winter, you have about a 10% chance of getting a slight grinding noise on a cold start (I'm talking if it's like 15 degrees Fahrenheit or colder outside after it's been sitting 12+ hours). That's been my only concern with the car so far, we'll see if it starts to cause problems or not. If it does, I'll probably get a Camry or something haha

That particular vehicle was used as a delivery vehicle. It had minimal cold starts and wasn't used much in stop and start traffic. It was also meticulously maintained. Almost any vehicle can reach a million miles under similar conditions and owned by someone who is willing to replace parts as they fail.

138,000 miles on my 2013 Elantra. That tick is only on the cold start and disappears after 5 seconds . Unfortunately very common on Hyundai and Kia. However, my Elantra has been super reliable and has never had an issue other than regular maintenance. 10 years trouble free. Use Full Synthetic every 5000-6000 miles.Judging by the neglected front rims, that engine was probably neglected too.

I'm coming up on 200,000 on my 2012 and she's been great value for money. Have the piston ticking and steering click, but she's still going. Do my own synth oil changes at 6/7,000 and regular air filter swaps. Served me well.

I have a 2016 Hyundai Elantra 6 speed manual. I've owned it since new and it has a 183000 miles and I have not experienced any of those issues. The only issue was the ac compressor went out at about 70000 miles and it was covered under warranty. I've done all the oil changes myself and primarily used mobile one full synthetic with Hyundai filters. Car still runs great and doesn't burn any oil at all.

@Mysterious Master Yoshi the only reason to be concerned is if the prior owner(s) beat on the vehicle and/or was poor at maintainence. These cars WILL tell you when something is wrong. They do so quite well and they do so quite vocally. Which makes maintenance even easier. Elantras are essentially a Korean-made civic equivalent. Small, economy car, somewhat sporty, extremely reliable with a few outliers.

I own 2015 Hyundai Elantra it has 120, 000 miles on it. The car is with me about a year and half, and I quickly fall in love with car since the first day I got it. I didn't experience all issues that were mentioned on the video. The only thing what I noticed is the ticking noise in the morning, and it goes away as soon as the engine reaches to it normal operating temperature. It is great gas sever car!! My mechanic told me that few issues( mentioned on the video) exist from year 2011-2013. He gave me few tips,1/ Do not skip oil change2/ He recommends ticker oil like 10w-30 fully synthetic. Change transmission oil if it is old, and use original oil from the dealership. Also, for winter, the 50/50 coolant ratio must be done according to the manual. If the car was abused by previous owner, yes you might experience those issues. More importantly, service your car (any kind) on timely basis. So, about the video 5 problems🤔🤔??, not on me.

2015 elantra 1.8 liter with 105k Miles. I've had absolutely Zero issues so far (Purchased it brand new, 5000 Mile synthetic oil changes) Car still runs like new. It does have the cold engine rattle but quiets down after 2-3 minutes. Every 1.8 liter i've heard sounds the exact same. They are noisy, but reliable and get great fuel mileage.

mine has 163k miles and runs new. the only issue is a/c compressor was replaced 2x (it spent most of its life with me in Fl!) and it did have the steering issue which the dealer fixed for free. The steering is acting up a lil now again but not too noticeable. never leaves me stranded tho. She's been reliable and I take excellent care of Ellen the Elantra!

Didn't need to change my steering coupler until about 195,000 miles, changed alternator at about 210,000 miles so. Had the clock spring changed at 200,000 miles, warranty item so no cost to me. Now at 310,000 mile I think I may need fuel pump changed. I've read that fuel pumps typically last 100,000 mike, a few last to 200,000 miles, no articles stated they last to 310,000 miles, so I'll call that good. Of course mine gets regular maintenance, all belts and hoses changed every 4 years, regardless of how good they may look, oil changes every 6k miles, plugs every 80,000 miles and coils only changed them once so far at about 225,000 miles.

Engines made in Alabama had shaving contamination, while those made in Japan were fine. At 100,000 tune up, they some how fouled a plug and harness. Never again.

2015 Elantra Sport with the 2.0L. Mine has 164k on it now (original engine) and all the only big issue I have with it except for the EVAP leak, is the piston slap issue while it burns a quart every 250-300mi. Original clutch, no big repairs done to it except basic maintenance. I just keep topping off oil and changing it every 3k and car is happy.

#6 torque coverter. When my car was 101k miles, my torque converter locked up, due to me not ever changing transmission fluid. and I had to replace it, and clean and rebuild the transmission. Other then that, my hyundai runs like a top. Maintanance is easy to do, and i will suggest running some lucas fuel injector cleaner in the gas, and run it wide open to keep the engine from carbon build up. 120,000 miles still runs great.

My wife has a 2013 Hyundai Elantra with over 200,000 miles on it. We have had none of those problems and its been a very reliable car. Nothing worse than routine oil changes, tires, brakes, windshield wipers, changing plugs and coil packs (once: 2 coil packs bad - why gamble on the other 2), transmission oil flush (once - likely needs it again soon), etc. A few factory recalls for relatively minor issues (the latest being changing the computer program so it's not so easy to steal).

I have a 2013 Elantra. 66K miles. The gearshift lever sticks in park, or if you can get it out of park, it won't go into reverse. I've had it at the dealer 3 times. This week, for the 3rd time, the dealer did a diagnostic, and told me the main electrical harness has to be replaced. (nearly $6000). I feel fortunate to be able to view videos like this one generously giving us your hard won experience, even though the dysfunctional gearshift was not among your top five. You might want to add it next time if other people have complained about this issue. Thanks.

I’m on my second Hyundai and wouldn’t hesitate getting another. I sold my first one (2003 Tiburon) at 160k+ still running fine and bought my current one (2012 Elantra) new and it’s just now at a little over 150k starting to have an issue that needs to be looked into. The only other potential issue I may have had is with the electrical system. There hasn’t been an obvious problem or need for repair on my Elantra yet but every once in a while the electrical system seems like it might be a little wonky but, like I said, nothing big enough to even think about taking In. I also have a few family members and friends who have had Hyundais who loved them too. My brother had an 07 and went through brake lightbulbs really fast but that’s all.

I had all the CEL stuff to do with the timing chain issues, but it ended up being the pistol slap to the point where it lost compression and wouldn't start. I wish I would have taken it to the dealer, but it was a secret warranty and never officially recalled by Hyundai except in Canada. I had thought the noise was the timing chain, not the piston issue. They are still covering 50 percent and I didn't pay much for the car, so I am getting a new engine

Our 2013 Elantra is one of my favorite vehicles... I had two different Sonatas in 2006 when they came out. Got the 4cyl because it was the only option at that dealer for a while until the 6cyls made their way out. Worked a deal to take no hit on the trade - That place was so shady, they chained the doors shut the day after I got my 6cyl. ANYWAY, the vehicles were excellent. The biggest gripe with the 2013 is the stereo / dash setup and only because I researched the luxury, I've always wanted COOLED seats - the 2017s have that for sure AND the dash is updated to get the stereo out of the sunlight, etc. During the Arizona daytime, that dash setup is a BANE. The whole thing gets sun-washed to see easily. That said, we did have to get that rubber steering wheel gear fixed, but that was only after the better half was forced to hit a curb or be hit head-on by a full size truck. I like the video and the head's up for future issues to be on the lookout for; thanks!

Recently I went for servicing and they said that it needs a gasket reseal at $4000 +! I'm very disappointed 😢. I'm thinking of buying a Toyota...had one before and had no issues!

I haven’t had any of these issues on my 2012 elantra. The issues that I have are the tire sensor light (always on despite being properly inflated), and my biggest problem is dang light bulbs!!! My brake lights are constantly burning out. It’s gotten to the point that I carry spare bulbs in my car at all times knowing that if one light is out, they’ll all be out. It drives me crazy. I bought this car brand new & will drive it until it dies but yeah, won’t buy a Hyundai again

I have a 2016 Elantra automatic with 328,000Km. Had piston slapping and Hyundai replaced engine at 220,00Km. I have replaced every wheel bearing (some 2x) , and 3 of 4 calipers as they seized. I have had to replace rear shocks early at 30,000Km. Replaced, lower ball joints, strut (L), and L front axel... Oh, and I have had to replace the cabin fan 2x as well, once under warranty by Hyundai and once again after with a used one i found. Lots of problems on this one i find.

One more thing to add is if the front wheel bearings go, your only option is to press in a new bearing, ir replace the whole assymbly, theh dont offer a bearing spindle combo pre installed unless you buy the the whole knuckle which is quite expensive.

I actually replaced the steering wheel coupling myself after the mechanic told me 200 dollars to replace a 2 dollar part. My car is a 2013 Elantra with 216,000 miles on it. I also replaced the alternator and battery twice. It has a parasitic draw that I haven't been able to trace. Other than that my car has been awesome.

my car will be 12 years in 4 more months. did all the maintenance and recalls, but a major issue i had a year ago was it stalling while i was on the road. it was super anxiety-inducing and annoying but i just replaced it with a new crankshaft position sensor (after getting a failed diagnostics done at the dealership and having the issue for like 2 months) and it was like normal. i believe i have the piston slap issue but the noise goes away after a few seconds and haven't had any other major issues. oh, but the paint is chipping bad on my door handles, front of the hood, and the back of the car. hopefully it can last me 2-3 more years while I continue saving up money for a new car🤞

Last year May 2021, Hyundai replace a short block in my car whit zero cost to me, I'm the original owner and the car had all the maintenance at the dealer. 6500 dls. For this job. Now july 2022 81,136 mi. no problems, but probably it will happen again, no matter if I change the oil every 3k or 4k mi. Next month if we are not in a recession probably I'm going to trade it for a Toyota or Honda.

2013 Elantra Coupe, G4NB 1.8L engine with Piston Slap Okay, here are my 5 cents. Bought the car with 54k miles (87k km) on it, with already developed Piston Slap and stuck timing chain Tensioner. Replaced the tensioner, the valve lifters, the mechanig did a honing on the cylinders in the short block. I also used metal-ceramic additives such as XADO with the hope to fill in the gaps in the cylinders - not a noticable difference. Well, I still hear it and I will drive like this until I rebore the short block and put oversized pistons 0.25 or 0.50 cm. The rebore itself would cost me $180 but I also have to buy new gasket kit and new oversized pistons. And to pay the mechanic to disassemble and assemble the engine. There are also new long blocks, around $1300, for sell in Alibaba/Aliexpress but seems too expensive with shipping, customs clearance and VAT. The car has 62k miles (100k km) now. Oil is Petronas 0w-40 full synthetic. I will probably change it with Ravenol 5w-40. Oil consumption is around 1,5L per 6200 miles (10k km). This video is very informative and I will definitely look for the rest of the problems and they seem easier to fix. Thanks!

I havent had any of those problems but 1. I had two recalls. 2. Tire pressure warning doesnt tell you which tire, so I have check every tire, 3. and then i have to drive about a quarter mile before the light goes off in order to know if I fixed the problem. 4. Some a-hole had the brilliant idea of making the oil dipstick the same color as engine oil, 5. They put the fuel filter under the back seat of the car, so you have to remove the seat to get to it. 6. There's a grinding sound and bumping when I press suddenly on the brakes
