    Hi pete what a job and what a finish that's some transformation!I like the deep colours offset by the crisp white,it must be quite tricky spraying inside the shelves and i guess that's where a good spray technique is essential so as to avoid paint build up in corners etc,the ultra max is dead handy for a feature wall isn't it?keep up the excellent work

    Ah thank you Eddie.. yeah it was a challenging one to complete.. HVLP certainly helps gain a bit more control. but the challenge is balancing fluid and air to avoid a ‘dry’ contact, getting a good coat that dries down nicely.. all good fun 😆 ..I am a fan of the handheld, spraying in small areas, especially dark features that would be very laborious with a brush / roller.. Hope you’re keeping well my friend, I really do appreciate the support you’ve shown the channel.. thank you 🙏 ..regards Pete

    Thank you Jonny.. you can do it too my friend.. I find with all forms of decorative spraying, to get the best finish you do have to lay on the optimal amount of product and push the boundaries without paint running.. and sometimes it does 🙈 ..primer and first topcoat I either move quicker or spray less fluid, this gives me a feel for how far I can push when spraying the all important final coat.. you’re doing great buddy, keep pushing 🎨💯 ..regards Pete

    I’m looking at getting into spraying, but can justify at the moment spending thousands of pounds. It’s mainly going to be used for woodwork and wanted to know your thoughts on the Apollo Prospray 1500. Is it something you’ve used all you know much about?

    What does "pre cat" mean? Is that something you put on before a catalyst?

  • @PaintHQ

    @PaintHQ

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey Eric, sorry for my delayed response I will always get back to you.. pre cat means pre-catalysed, it has the chemical catalyst already in the paint, normally added at the paint shop.. so no adding and mixing like with an acid catalyst / PU ..just a real good stir before you pour into your pot 👍 hope this helps my friend, keep in touch, great to have your contribution.. regards Pete

    Ca you use a traditional setup with an air compressor and Hvlp gun with a 1.8 tip to achieve the same results or do you need an airless unit?

  • @PaintHQ

    @PaintHQ

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for your question my friend.. you would use an airless unit for spraying the thicker / higher viscosity emulsion on the walls / ceiling.. but you could use a traditional airspray HVLP for the intricate cabinetry, spraying much thinner woodwork / industrial coating 👍 ..hope this answers your question.. keep in touch.. regards Pete

    Hi Pete, if you could recommend a HVLP sprayer and accessories to a painter new to spraying what would it be? We paint a lot of hall stairs and landings and woodwork over the winter and was thinking about investing in a sprayer kit after seeing your videos. Thanks!

  • @PaintHQ

    Hi Kevin, great to hear from.. you won’t look back when investing in spraying.. regarding HVLP, you have 2 routes to investigate in terms of how air is ‘delivered’,.. a compressor (Air Spray) and Turbine.. now there’s advantages to both, whilst essentially the atomising technology and results will be the same.. both using air, with a turbine using stages of ‘concentrating’ the air to a ‘HVLP limit’ and a compressor using a conventional method of a tank and compressing the air, with a theoretical ‘no limit’.. Turbine technology will typically be more expensive for a quality unit such as the Graco‘s, I say quality because cheaper units can overheat and cut out or you won’t get the same number of stages to generate the air.. a Turbine unit is lighter and more manoeuvrable (which could well suit you in stairwells), but the airline is thicker and more weighty.. whereas the compressor is heavier to lift out the van and carry up stairs (if required).. but like I do, I often setup in another room or even outside and run the much thinner and flexible airline to the pressure pot.. on that note, I prefer the advantages of a regulated pressure pot, which is more easily achieved with a compressor Vs the passive setup you can achieve with a standard turbine.. unless you was to purchase a Graco Procomp 9.5 which is excellent technology with its onboard compressor that’s dedicated to purely pressurising a remote pot.. Now if I was going down the turbine route, that’s what I’d choose 😆.. a bit more of an investment, but worth the extra.. lastly, with a (suitable) compressor you have the future ability to convert an existing airless unit to AAA - Air Assisted Airless.. the ultimate in a hybrid between airless and airspray technology, which greatly improves transfer efficiency and control 👍 Or just a straight airless unit could meet your needs and more, such as the GXFF, or for the ultimate manoeuvrability, navigating stairs.. the GXFF Cordless ..Hope this helps a little, sorry for the essay.. I can appreciate the dilemma you must have.. my friend Mike at SpraymanUK will be more than happy to assist further with no pressure to purchase, his knowledge is very inspiring 😆 ..and of course I’m more than happy to help any way I can.. in fact I’m with SpraymanUK at this years National P&D show (this month.. November), if you can make it, it’ll be a nice to meet up for a chat 🙏 regards Pete

    is there a reason why you thin the wall and ceiling paint? maybe so it sprays even?

  • @PaintHQ

    @PaintHQ

    Жыл бұрын

    Hello my friend.. I typically don’t look to thin a material when airless spraying.. however this emulsion I’m spraying is very thick in viscosity, and I know from looking at the data sheet that it was possible to thin 10%.. it really is worth easing it that amount to ease the flow, allow for a lower pressure and gain more control.. lower pressure you get less bounce back of paint off the walls / ceiling, so cleaner spraying and less overspray 👍 ..thanks for your question, keep in touch my friend.. happy to help and advise if I can.. regards Pete

    Hello my friend.. that’s a very good question.. waterborne technology has come on so much and I for one prefer / and do spray WB 99% of the time.. but this project meant I could push the boundaries and spray PC and strive for a 90% high gloss finish.. I was up for the challenge and liked the quick drying times also 😆 ..but yeah, I do typically spray waterborne, and soon I’m hoping to showcase some ‘cutting edge’ WB paint technology that’s crosslinked and potentially equal to solvent in sheen and durability 👌.. keep in touch, great to have you contributing ion the PaintHQ channel.. regards Pete
