    Wonderful video, complete with details and the FFLP tips you use. Question for a newbe: did I miss something or are you holding the handheld sprayer closer to the work than you would with your "usual" airless? The lack of overspray is very impressive, in the same category with HVLP. With my lack of experience, I would of been very nervous using 9-12" paper for masking for fear it would get on the glass and the doors. Do handhelds have less overspray, or is it your technique? Thank you

    Hello my friend, sorry about my delayed reply.. thanks for the kind words, really appreciate it 🙏 ..my spraying distance should be the same when using the HH versus when I use a regular airless gun.. although the HH is a little heavier, so it could be possible that I’ve ended up a little closer 😆 ..the overspray should also be the same, with all airless technology.. it just comes down to tip selection / size 👍 ..plus a little practice and confidence 😆 ..you’ll get there too, and I’m more than happy to help and advise if I can.. keep in touch.. regards Pete 💙

  • @PaintHQ

    @PaintHQ

    Hello my friend.. I do rate Frog Tape, especially when manually using a brush / roller, and the confidence it should block any paint bleed.. whereas when spraying I use a good quality waahi tape, such as Tesa Precision (that’s what I’ve used on this project), as you say Deltec Gold is another one.. and Kip is also on my radar 👍 as long as I’ve prepped the woodwork, primed / top coats and I mask it up the following day, I have no concerns about the performance.. hope this helps my friend, happy to help and advise if I can, anytime 🙏 regards Pete

    Hi Pete, great video as usual. I’ve got to spray some fitted wardrobes next month. They have been sprayed before by the installer. Would the Teknos you use be the correct paint for this? Thanks Allan.

  • @PaintHQ

    @PaintHQ

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Allan, apologies for the small delay in my response.. yes I’d certainly recommend ‘spray only’ waterborne industrial coatings such as the Teknos primer / topcoat featured.. they are low viscosity materials that I recommend spraying with.008 tips, such as the FF LP 208 or 308.. whilst a 208 is perhaps more suited because of the narrower 4” fan, I’d probably go for a 308, just to spread the material wider.. (you’ll get a less chance of encountering a run).. both the primer and top coat sand very easily, especially the high build primer.. I’d recommend 2 coats of primer with a between coats denib / sand, very lightly to get the primer feeling silky smooth.. followed by 2 tip coats, first one quite light (it will dry quicker), plus this will help you gauge how far you can push and slow down the movement for the final all important ‘healthy’ coat.. the finish is a little more on the matt side Vs a satin coat, but very modern and nice to the touch.. hope this helps? It’s always a pleasure to be able to offer my help and guidance.. regards Pete

    👋👋….. pete, love the videos brother….wish i had the time to do them . I tried once but was just losing to much time on jobs …. It’s does take a different kind of person . I did have 2 questions . 1.) the filler you used to make the seamless joint . I used to be big on that myself as it just looks so much better but I found for me personally caulk is the best way to go because that filler will for sure crack eventually and look terrible ….. and caulk will at least expand with the joint at least . If you use a good caulk and not that alex junk . Whats your opinion ? 2.) I see you put down a weaker tape and then a stronger one when doing residential for your cut in line . I was curious why ? I do the same process but just use the stronger tape only and never have issues with it peeling the finish . Kinda feels like a waste of time and material but am curious why you do it .? I promise these are genuine questions and not trying to be a smart a$$ . Because I really love your channel man . Hands down 1 of 2 paint channels is watch with mike the painter being the only other one . Guy is a over spray wizard and a beast with the gun ….. love his set up …… you should give the hea tips a try way better than graco and spray tech …. You can drop the pressure so much lower and achieve the same results . The benefits are less pressure less over spray .

  • @PaintHQ

    @PaintHQ

    Жыл бұрын

    Hello my friend, thanks for your input and questions.. I genuinely appreciate people’s thoughts and strategies to complete jobs and encourage others to share their ideas.. I’ll quickly answer point 2 first .. I just very quickly and roughly go round with a cheaper production tape purely to protect the plastic substrate from the sanding.. then also offer protection for a clean / minimal caulk line.. I then remove whist wet, let it dry whilst masking the rest of the project.. and mask a precise line with precision Washi tape just a fraction above the caulk line.. the minimal caulking kind of leads onto you’re first question.. I’m thinking the opposite, I’m not a fan of overly using caulk and would rather fill.. this sill joint had opened up from historic water ingress from the outside, soaking undetected underneath the sill and the shrinkage has occurred as it’s all dried out.. talking to the customer it’s hoped that has stopped and any addition movement is done.. likewise I get the points you make and I’m certainly not saying my way is the only way.. great to hear from you, I appreciate the kind words regarding the PaintHQ channel my friend.. keep in touch, it’ll be great to have your input in future 🙏 regards Pete

    I have a wagner 250m airless sprayer. I love it but it's only for DIY and typically I only use it to paint rooms and trim in my house when needed. Is the graco ultra enough for home DIY use? I feel like the wagner is more or a trade machine and poss a bit much for DIY work? Thanks.

  • @PaintHQ

    @PaintHQ

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Steve, good question my friend.. first of all, great to hear you’re embracing spraying 👏👏 .Really the ControlPro 250m is a DIY machine and I know it’s very popular in the DIY market.. then the Graco Handhelds (Ultra and Ultra Max), both are professional units, aimed at contractors and DIYers alike completing small projects and / or looking to touch up previously sprayed work.. they’re good at complimenting, the bigger conventional airless pumps (such as your 250m).. where I think the Graco Ultra could be handy for yourself, is putting a small amount of trim / woodwork paint in the cup (such as a litre) and spraying a door / small amount of trim 👍 ..whereas the 250m being a siphon only pump, you need much more paint to prime the hose before spraying.. so more suited to spraying your walls / emulsion 👍 ..but I wouldn’t spray ‘large’ / full room with the handheld units, it’s not what they’re really designed for.. hope this make sense, and is helpful.. keep in touch, happy to help and advise if I can.. regards Pete 😆

    Good question.. the model demonstrated in this video is the Ultra Max and because it can spray solvent as well as water based materials, the tip guard is a proprietary size that’s made of plastic (no spark risk).. however the Ultra model (not Max) which is designed to spray only water based, it has a standard 7/8” metal tip guard.. so yes, with that model you can use 7/8” tip guards from other manufacturers 👍 hope this helps my friend, happy to help and advise further if I can.. regards Pete

  • @PaintHQ

    @PaintHQ

    Жыл бұрын

    Good evening my friend.. that’s a very good question.. it’s a close call, a HVLP setup would absolutely spray an awesome fine finish, a small quantity and production speed on this small job wasn’t an issue.. airless with FF LP technology has massively closed the gap, arguably an equal finish to HVLP.. I think ultimately, I like the way airless lays on the optimal / wet coat, which dries and levels beautifully.. then I’m a fan of the handheld to spray a small project with a small amount of material.. very well suited to these units😆👍

    Pete, I've not seen you use any DIN cups. Is it something you have not considered or just find a waste of time and prefer to "play by the ear"? One more thing... I see you use a wide range of coatings. Is this an everlasting quest of exploring or do you have specific reasons to choose those?

  • @PaintHQ

    @PaintHQ

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey buddy.. my personal opinion is a DIN cup is not necessary, but I can see the sound ‘theory’ behind them, especially if new to viscosity.. like you say you do get to know what you’re looking for.. you often see me let the paint run off the stick when stirring, swirling’ worms’ on top, what I’m looking for is the worms to pretty much sink in immediately.. I’m also a fan of spray only waterborne ‘industrial’ coatings, like the high build primer and topcoat featured in this video.. I’m actually the type of person not to be constantly looking for the next product.. I do want to achieve the highest quality / performing finish and what happens is I have manufacturer’s that I rate and like working with... brands like Teknos and AkzoNobel in joinery finishes are on my list ..with some others on my radar 😉 ..the products in this video, listed in the video description, you won’t go wrong with.. they are spray only, no need to thin so will spray beautifully straight out the can ..HVLP and airless with .008 tips at very low pressure 👍 ..hope this answers your question my friend 👍 keep in touch.. regards Pete 🙏

  • @noslrak2000

    @noslrak2000

    Жыл бұрын

    @@PaintHQ I guess my question about a DIN cup comes from my use of experimental paints I am not familiar with. Too often I have clients who want to supply their own paint. Going by the "poo" pile (your worm version) doesn't seem to work all the time with some paints that were not intended for spraying out of the tub. I intend to give a try to some of those super sticky water-based coating on hand rails. Until now I was using Zinsser Cover Stain Primer, which is solvent based and is extra stinky even if very sticky too.

    No where near the finish though , do them little jobs after work or weekend probably spent more time chatting with the client and Drinking tea and biscuit’s great job maximum effect little effort 👍🏻😁

    Very true my friend 🙏 ..the reality is that this small project was completed as the final part of a complete property, so I had plenty of final finishing touches to complete, in amongst picking up the handheld and firing on a coat in 2 minutes 😆 like you say, so easy, much less laborious ..and fun 👏👏👏
