Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! After having this same issue over the last 6 months and replacing the pressure switch and capacitors, I came across your video. I immediately went to the compressor, cut the zip tie and moved the breaker in to the open. The compressor now works as it should! I am thankful for people like you Tracy who take the time to make videos to help others!

I have the same compressor with the same problem. I have been trying for years to figure out what was overheating with no luck. I watched your video and sure enough, that little circuit breaker was ziptied to the motor windings on mine. I doubt I would have ever figured it out without your video. I cut the ziptie, pulled the circuit breaker away from the motor and it works like a charm now. Thanks for posting this!

man iv been having this issue with my same compressor for about 3 years now. i had the extended warranty and everything. home depot put 3 new motors, all new electronics, rebuilt the 3rd motor, all new coils and brushes, lines, and then just gave me another unit, that 2 months later started doing the same thing. so it sat in my shop for over a year. it would fill up to 50psi and wouldn't turn on for 6 or so hours. i finally got motivation to fix it my self, and your video solved all my problems. thanks man!! so crazy how it can be so simple. now it fills up to 150 and can handle my DA sander very well as well as my impact, air chisel, and air ratchet with ease! thanks man!

Dude, you rock!!! My Husky 20 Gallon model had the same thing wrong with it except my breaker was still attached to the magneto. I trimmed off the tie wrap and moved it, no problem getting over the, formerly, usual 85 psi, all the way up to 140 psi. Thanks so much! I do have another question though that you may have encountered. When I go to restart my unit it sometimes seems to be in a seized state and then will take off after a second or two. Update: I found that when the Home Depot personnel had "repaired" this unit that's they had installed a directional section backwards causing incorrect airflow. I corrected this and it now runs and shuts off perfectly. Thanks again for your video.

Probably the thermal switch is meant to be cable-tied in there so that it's in somewhat contact with what is getting hot. I agree that by letting it float in the air the sensor stays cooler and that "fixes" the symptom of cutting off the motor, but the motor is still getting warm. Whether or not the thermal switch is faulty or has a cutoff which is too low, is unknown. I removed my shroud and added an external fan to keep the motor cool, and that seems to have fixed the problem.

Have the same issue with the 17gal compressor I have...BUT...using an amp clamp I can confirm that, as the pressure builds, the current climbs up to 15A at which point the breaker trips. Let it sit for a few minutes and it will reset. Issue is worse when it is hot out. Since I have a high current problem I don't think this breaker is my issue bit I will certainly look, thanks!

This worked for me! I was not able to even fill up the tank without the thing shutting off and having to wait 5 minutes for it cool down and try again. The little bugger was hard to find. It helps to follow the wires from the main switch. That will give you an idea of where this is hidden. I clipped the 2 black zip ties and mine also had clear tape that held it in place. Just bent the wire with the switch away from the motor and it ran just like new. I wanted to point out that some of the covers for these air compressors have Phillips screws holding the cover down at the front and back of the plastic cover in addition to the bolts on the sides. I found out the hard way. Tracy, Thanks for saving me a couple hundred dollars.

You must have a leak if it don't build pressure.I would put dish soap maybe 5 drops to 1 in a spray bottle and foam up all the joints.Or just mix up and dab on the joints. You will see the bubbles the air is leaking out.Mainly check your drain valve on the bottom. If it is leaking just remove it with no pressure on the tank ,clean it and put it back in.

Tracy, a friend of mine gave me a 25 gal Husky. He said it would only get up to 40PSI. He said he used it to do a lot of hardwood floor installation. The floors in his house are beautiful. He just bought a dewalt air compressor and gave the husky to me. I am a fixer just haven't had a chance to pop the top off. Was the circuit breaker keeping you from getting above a certain psi? Thanks Adam

+Adam Mathis Yours sounds like the pressure switch to me.But then again what is is the max. cutoff pressure and has it ever been able to reach atleast 120 psi.?

+Tracy Bullock Sorry for the late reply back to you. I'll have to ask him if it ever reached 120psi. I'll look and see about max cutoff.

Is that there to stop the motor from overheating? If that's the case removing it from the windings might cause the motor to burn out.

Hi Bud a friend of brought over this air compressor TAW-2098 the wires are burn't of it ,there is two small wires dangling in the area where you describe the circuit breaker, but this compressor has a reset on it.Do you have a photo of this same area that might show where the wires come of the field etc. Thank you ,appreciate a reply.

+Jerry Thompson Check the 90 degree brass fitting that screws into the cylinder head. Mine had sheared the threads off the brass fitting so it was leaking all the pressure around it and only pumping up to about 28psi. Can find the fitting on 1800toolrepair.com for about $10. If that is not it then it is most likely your head gasket which is also about $10 and an easy fix.

colas solorzano ended up cutting out the breaker and wiring it through. Seems fine. Just watch it doesn't run too long too often.
