Husband & Wife Hawker Duo Strengthened Their Marriage Through Food : Wild Olives - Food Stories

Wild Olives was started by husband & wife duo Winson and Gladys. They both quit their jobs to start up their first stall at the Changi Airport staff canteen, and have since relocated to Pasir Ris Central Hawker Centre.
The journey hasn't always been easy - the pair talk to us about some of the challenges they face as a married couple working together, and how starting Wild Olives together has strengthened their marriage.

Been supporting Wild Olives since their days at the old T2 staff canteen - the amount of effort and love that goes to every plate of food cooked is remarkable (not to mention afforadable) even up till today. Hats off to the both of you!

I once waited 1.5h in queue for their food. It was totally worth it, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Thank you to this wonderful couple for providing us with such delicious and affordable food!

Wild olives is fantastic. Since patronizing their stalls back when I was young religiously every Sunday with my family, to driving to pasir ris and queueing before they even open! Such a pleasure to sit and wait, knowing I get the same quality and quantity that they’ve been serving for 16 years. I even remember the times when Winson didn’t have such a following and had time to read books in between taking orders!

Still remember the times I studied for O levels and ordered their chicken chop for lunch and dinner back in T2 staff canteen! One of the best western food shops!

Your love for each other shines through. Being a hawker is a tough and thankless task, made all the more remarkable that the both of you are really the only ones running your stall. It is only thanks to people like you that our hawker heritage is still going and we can all continue to have affordable and delicious food. Love your food and have loved it since your T2 days. Keep going, both in your love for each other and in the amazing food that you put out.

Yup the food is good and really value for money. 👍🏻 however the waiting time is really Long (1 hour+), probably have to come during the non peek hours. How their queue and order work is: You queue, they take your order you wait for your food to be done, the next person behind you will then be able to order. I understand it’s because it’s a 2 person team, and they cook with much love and care at their own pace. Was thinking maybe they could use the buzzer thingy, so people could place their orders and go back to sit. But that might end up stressing the couple even more as there might be tonnes of orders piled up.

Went to wild olives to eat before and very true to what the uncle said, he wasn't very people oriented and very stern at the cashier. Honestly, I got really scared of the uncle. 😂 So glad that I can see the gentle side of him in this video. Food was really good though!

Pride of PASIR RIS CENTRAL HAWKER CENTRE (: The couple worked very very hard to attain the good business they have today, been 2 years, and there are still snaking long queues whenever they're open. Really hope as a customer and consumer, I sincerely hope they can do well and continue to operate here in my hood (:

Hi just a small suggestion for the chicken chop. Maybe you can start cooking the chicken chop skin side down, first to cut down on the oil use and you get a slightly crispy skin, which may taste slightly better? I'm not a good cook, but I do watch alot of cooking shows. And that's seems to be the way chefs/cooks, do to get more flavour.

They show that Singaporeans need not be slaves to corporate world. But most cannot think out if the box. They base on being told what to do . Waiting for instructions and risk adverse. The biggest risk is to expect to be employed till your retirement and have no ability to be self employed. It's why most are unhappy with their work. They are working to grow business of others and can be retrenched . They get older everyday. Starting your own business , your hard work is purely for yourself.
