How & Why I Bought My Tiny Yacht | C-Dory 22 Cruiser

Goals and dreams, we all have them. For many years, some of mine have been to explore and adventure across the water to distant and exciting destinations. Clear waters, white sands, palm trees, wildlife and nights with stars reflecting off the water.... To make these dreams a reality, I have diligently worked my way to a vessel that provide a safe and efficient means of making them happen. My C-Dory 22 Cruiser.......

    Great story! You have a wonderful boat there. I moved to the South from the west coast and I'm very much a fan of the C-Dory. I've seen people use them offshore fishing for Salmon, Ling Cod and Halibut then in a couple weeks they tow them up to the alpine lakes of the Sierras and Cascade Mountains to troll for Trout and Kokanee. I've seen them from Alaska to Southern California. It is such a versatile boat heck , a whole lot of people have made the "The Great Loop" in them.

    After working on and living beside the Mississippi river for 30 years, the CDory 18 might be the best boat I've seen to comfortably come down and conquer the big river. Fuel is hard to get on along the river. Many try 50 foot yachts and fail With twin 50 4 strokes and a top ac/ heat unit, the C Dory and light fuel consumption is the bomb.

    Ha Trip I'm glad I looked back to find this older video of the early C-Dory dayze...Luv the excitement and you still have it even 2+yrs later! Did you ever mention what you paid? I've been looking for one and man while not pricey comparatively to a lot out there in the boating world, they are much more $$$ than I expected. Seems most are in the $40-60K range, even 20 yr old C-Dorys!

    The first video I saw of yours was the largest boat storage tour. I thought those owners have way more money than me but I doubt they have as much fun. I bought a Zuma 125 for $1200 and I’ve done so many adventures with it. Last October I rode 1209 miles in 32 hours all backroads. It was awesome and now I’m planning a 4000 mile trip!

    My deal on a C- dory 26 just went through! Looking forward to some fun and exploration! Bahamas and dry Tortuga are coming up! Bigger isn't always better. Lots more fuel, lots more maintenance, lots more operating costs, more stress, harder to explore. I went from a 40' sailing catamaran to a 30x10' cutwater C30, to 27' world cat 270ec, to my 26 C-dory!

    good video and great example. Sometimes you just got to find adventure in what you have. Being able to make the most of meager means will inspire you to see that adventure is everywhere. Including kids ads it's whole new sets of challenges and is an adventure in itself. But they are certainly not an excuse to not get out there. if anything and even better reason. Now the C-Dory will help you into the future with those types of adventures

    A bit of dreaming because you can't turn back time but I think this size and type of boat is perfect for my needs and abilities. Big enough to be safe and comfortable for 2 or 3 day near coast island hopping and big river cruising yet small enough to be ( with a bit of forethought and experience ! ) launched and retrieved solo. A catch latch on the trailer would help. With sensible outboard choice economical and easy maintenance/ use. Anchor up , bait or 2 out the back and a fillet of beef ready just in case ! Winner !😎👍

    "The best days of a boat are the day you buy it and the day you sell it." Most famous quotes are true. This one is not. I've loved every boat I've ever had. Never sad to see them go because my life circumstances dictated the move. Many of them I gave to friends... As for Trip.... upgrading. There is no boat on the market better than his C-Dory 22 unless you want a completely different type of boat... if you want a million dollar sports fisher.... That's not really an upgrade. That's a change.

  • @TripSmith

    @TripSmith

    5 ай бұрын

    First, it is a planing hull, so that is not a drawback. Two drawbacks come to mind, heavy seas you must slow down a good bit so you aren't pounding and the cockpit is not self bailing.
