The Perfect Small Cruising Boat? C-Dory 22 Cruiser

Learn why I think the C-Dory 22 Cruiser is possibly the best small and affordable cruising boat out there these days. Having many nights and a few hundred miles aboard so far, I have learned to love this little boat and can't wait to see what the future adventures have in store!

    Trip, I ordered a swim ladder from the manufacturer and it saved my life and I highly recommend.... We were crabbing out in the mouth of the Columbia in 6ft waves and got a bouy caught in the prop, being able to step out on the platform to free it was a life saver. The real purpose though is getting back in which fortunately we've only used for fun while swimming.

    I found this channel while researching c dory boats. Wanted a 25-30 foot boat with a cabin to do the great loop. Fuel would be so much cheaper in one of these than say a 32 trojan or carver, but you sacrifice the rougher water capabilities.

    That C-Dory 22 Cruiser is hands down the best 2 person camper on the water. Add more people subtract more comfort lol. Drafts deep enough to move to open water yet shallow enough to get through river and channels. Add a rib or skiff to expand abilities to venture into shallows and or beaching onto shores for less wet clothes before supper. Your boat is perfect and your videos prove you know how to use it for your lifestyle. Must mention that its a pack mule with storage on overhead but watch the weight distributions. Fair seas good sir.

I look forward to seeing you on the water down here in the Santa Rosa Sound soon! Navarre is a beautiful place. I mean, it's a horrible place and no one should come here. The beaches are yucky and the water is definitely not warm and wonderful. And by all means, you definitely do not want to come here to stay. My water, fish, and beaches are already too crowded. these look like great little boats. fact that they have a toilet in a 22'er. enclosed cabin wheel house on a 22'er... Only things they lack are heat and ac. a good propane or diesel heater would be great. genny and AC, with battery and solar... and you'd have a wonderful long distance cruiser. Just need to fit a larger fridge or break it up to 1 dedicated fridge, and 1 freezer... and you could do the loop or canal runs slow and relaxed.

    That’s what I did, put a small silent generator on my boat, tied into the fuel line of my main engine so I don’t have to keep on refilling the tank on generator, & put an ac, tv, mini fridge in the cabin……. My wife & 4 kids love it, we can camp for free on the water……

  • @TripSmith

    @TripSmith

    Жыл бұрын

    I'd love to step up to either one in time. There are a few big differences that the large boats bring. One is a liner which means you aren't walking in the bilge like with the 22. That gives you things like space under the floor for wiring/plumbing and a self bailing cockpit. However, you also get quite a bit of extra weight from the liner, more width and length as well as more onboard systems. To me, that would equal higher fuel costs while underway and towing. Something that isn't quite in my budget at this point along with the higher purchase cost.

    L see a couple things, the catwalks are very narrow making it hard to walk to the bow to tie the anchor in rough water it looks unsafe. There seems to be alot of wasted space up inside the bow, an anchor locker would be nice then you could stand in the hatch to manage the anchor. Also you don't mention a shiter, the way you eat you must need a big one. I hope your not dumping overboard.

    Why don’t you talk about the Head? Shower? Portapotty?

  • @gfrerking

    @gfrerking

    2 жыл бұрын

    Most boats this size don't have much to brag about in that area. The 22' that Trip (and I) have has a spot in the entry to the v-berth for a porta-potty. I have the original porta-potty that came with mine but actually found the 5 gallon bucket / seat / bag / eco-gel type system to be easier to use and more convenient (and more sanitary). Porta-potty is an interesting contraption, but too complicated for it's own good. Most people who want / need showers on a 22' rig up something back in the cockpit - either a hanging bag camp-type shower, or a washdown pump (like I have) that can pump water from the body of water that you're in. I'm in freshwater mountain lakes more often than not. If you truly want a more of a "luxurious" built in head, you'd have to bump up in size to a 25' cruiser or Tomcat, which is a catamaran hull cousin to the C-Dory line.
