How To Tell If Your Chinchilla Is Sick

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Hey guys! Once again, I just want to remind everyone that this video is not a way to diagnose what could be wrong with your pet, nor is it a 100% foolproof way to determine if they are sick or not. However, these are symptoms to possible health problems in your chinchilla. If you are seriously concerned over the state of their health, please don't hesitate to reach out to a licensed exotic vet. Thanks for watching and have a wonderful week! :):)

Top tip from person who has been praised by their vet. Check eyes, ears, nose and mouth. Also if you want to check your chinchilla's breathing because they can be quite quiet animals, pick up your chinchilla and gently place your ear on their chest should try to listen for crackliness and/or labour breathing as this can be a sign of a respiratory infection. Also head tilt could be a sign of an ear infection.

@@phoenixcarroll3583 They should not squeak whe breathing if they often do this it could be a sign respiratory problem and should be taken to the vet these can escalate quickly in certain cases and can be caused by many different things such as, bacteria, fungus, or other infections from other areas of the chins body or his cage mate. I've delt with this a few times (on many chins I have 11 now) and if you have more then one you may need to quarantine, fist step is to contact your vet asap.

I had two girls and they are so lovely and friendly. One day I looked over into the cage and one of them was hunched over, lathargic, wasn't eating, wasn't moving much and didnt want to play. We rushed her to the vet and found out she had cancer and we had to put her down. She was 11 and she had a good life. 😇

Merlin so such a fluffy boi!!! My rule of thumb is typically if my pets are eating and drinking, accept treats, and will move around easily they are most likely fine. My chinchilla Geo had issues with diaariaa, but he eats, drinks, runs around and accepts treats, and I fix the problem on my own. :)

My chinchilla Ruu, I'm trying to get him to the vet. Im pretty sure he has some problems , like dried feet. I just now noticed it, since he doesn't like being held , but he climbs on me for playtime. I'm also a first time chinchilla mama, so it scares me. He also, I noticed today. He's having trouble eating pellets, his ears went down, made is painful noise, and tried spitting / taking it out of his mouth. He did it 2-3 times while eating. Could this be dental issues, broken teeth? Even though they look okay.

Despite the disclaimer about not being a professional, I do have a question that Google has not clearly answered (and other chin owners, I appreciate feedback as well); is it common/normal for a male chin, during playtime (running, jumping, exploring, etc.), to have his penis poking out a bit? I have considered the adrenaline and excitement aspect it being out for playtime, but I also have worries about potential fur rings, etc... His behaviors, urination patterns, nor energy haven't really changed, but I'm also aware that chins and other small rodent pets can hide their sicknesses quite well... (My chin has a wellness check up at the vet in two days, so I will be getting some solid confirmation, but I have been curious without much help from simple internet searches)
