I was lucky enough to get my chinchilla from a close friend so I was able to meet him when he was only a week old and he bonded to me right away. I know that this is a chinchilla channel but I also have a small parrot (a cockatiel) and I got him 3 months ago and I was expecting him to bond with me in a month or two but it’s been 3 months and I’m still in the process of taming him and, I’m gonna be honest, I’ve gotten pretty annoyed and frustrated at myself and thought I was a bad pet owner because I couldn’t bond with him and tame him as fast as many of my friends have tamed their birds. So thank you for talking about your experience with bonding with your chinchilla and how it’s not the owners fault and how you have to be patient, that made me feel a lot better knowing that I’m not the only one who’s had trouble with bonding with a pet. Thank you!!!

I’ve only had him for about 8 months or so💕

We moved from Ohio to Ny this year. Just need keep AC on, watch that their water isn't leaking like ours did. We have a fleece lined small carrier. We kept it mostly covered the whole trip. They eventually settled down and relaxed the whole way.

Yesss I would love to see more of Zorro. As I have said in DMs to you previously, I'm having very similar problems with my chinchilla as Zorro so I hope to be able to learn a lot of tips by seeing more of Zorro. I'd also love to see u film the moving process!! I actually just visited Tennessee for a lumber jack amusement park that is super cool. If anyone wants the name of the place to look further into it, let me know (sorry I went kind of off topic there 😂)

im glad he has bonded with you, i rescued a two year old from the breeder i got my baby from and struggled to bond with him (jasper) whos featured on my channel with milo. but we are now bonded it just takes time and patience, its worth it in the end :)

I wish I could have another chinchilla

I got another chinchilla in July, and two days later he died. It was so sad but we saw no sign of anything wrong. We got another chinchilla not what my two chins are happy. Is there any reason that could have happpened?

Your moving to Tennessee? Thats so cool ! I live in Tennessee, and the warmer seasons are literally unbearable some/most days. And colder months are absolutely freezing. Like right now its is so SO cold. And humidity isnt that awful honestly. Just weather is just unpredictable. And i just recently got a friend for my chinchilla, hes a Mosiac baby we found on Craigslist, and hes bonding great to my older standard grey. Their names are Everest(aka Evvy) and Ande

That weather sounds kinda like eastern washington weather too. So not much of a change I guess. But there’s a big difference in the humidity. Here it’s bone dry and there’s it’s wet and humid 💕

We live in Eastern Washington too! We are in going to go get a chinchilla tomorrow but worried that they won’t have a big enough cage that we can leave with out of a store 😕

hey! i’m looking to get a friend for my chinchilla but i don’t have the money to get an extra cage for a new chin, would it be ok if, while they bonded, i separated the cage in half and kept one on the top half and one on the bottom? that way they could still be close and get used to each other’s scents but still have that separation, the only issue i’m worried about is space but it would only be temporary until they bond

Care fresh isn’t safe for them. It’s paper based and when they swallow it, it expands in their stomachs and can kill them since it’s toxic and gets stuck in their digestive system. I recommend using aspen wood shavings instead of any paper bedding 💕

How do I help my chinchilla lose weight? Are Timothy biscuits ok for my chinchilla to eat?

To help them lose weight, I recommend starting to only feed them 2 tablespoons of pellets a day, along with giving them plenty of extra playtime and make sure they have a wheel in their cage to exercise when you’re unable to let them out. They should always have an unlimited hay supply. And avoid all treats for a while 💕

Hi! So I have two chinchillas. One is fully bonded with me and he loves me. My other one is quite stubborn. I’ve had him since August and he still doesn’t enjoy my company. Would anybody know how to bond him with me? I’ve tried most things. He seems like such a sweet chin. I eventually want to bond them but I want Gus (My stubborn one) to like me before he meets another chin. I forgot to mention this but, Gus also sprays me when i put my hand near him, he also bites and since he’s a talker he will make noises at me.

You should show him more often

His cage is too small

A year?! How big is he (in inches long) mine looks so small compared to him

Usually chinchillas get a little fat as they’re in their growing stages so he’s kinda chubby right now. Not sure how long he is🤷‍♀️

Zorro is cute!!! Thank you for doing a video with him. Maybe next time you do a video with him you can offer him treats and try to give him chin scratches?

How long do you usually sit with him and Merlin at a time? I’m trying to bond with my three girls and I’m not sure how long I should sit with them.

I try for at least an hour. If not, 40 minutes or so. I find that usually tires them out well😊

No, I have a plan to keep them in one unit of their cages. My dad has a big work van that we’ll strap the cages down to inside the van. And hopefully that’ll be the least stressful option for them. The drive should be 2 days at the most since we will be driving straight through💕

@@TheChinchillaNotebook oh and to help your chinchillas bond, try putting them in a small cardboard box together instead of a wire cage so they dont get hurt. And also it might look like their biting each other but their actually sniffing each other. I was so confused at first😂
