As being an owner of 3 chinchillas the best thing that has helped me is be consistent. What I mean, is play and interact every day. Another thing is keep treats on hand (My chins love rose hips and cheerios). Give them treats every time they go near you, this way they will assume when they go near you it's okay and they will be rewarded. Also the first time you are near your chinchilla don't make sudden movements.

Chinchillas can't have cheerios, because they contain grain and honey so you shouldn't feed them cheerios

My chinchilla Ellie was letting me hold her and sitting in my hands on the second day. I never forced her. I just put treats in my hand and she started sitting on me

Can you do a video on how to destress your chinchilla? My chinchilla recently went to the vet and since he hates to be held he got very stressed If you could that would be great! Also your videos are soooo helpful!!!❤️

llamaPlays #DIY I would just leave him alone for a little bit and he’ll get over it. It’s not a huge deal, don’t worry. Sometimes Merlin escapes in the house and I have to chase him down to get him back to his cage, and he’ll be stressed and hide in his hut for a day or two but he gets over it and gets back to normal 💕

I like to give extra dust baths during stressful times. Then I turn the lights off and leave them alone for a while and bring treats later.

Hi I love your vids I learn so much every time you post!

In my case, he was stuck in a way-too-small cage and never let out or got attention for the first 3 years of his life by someone who obviously couldn't care for him properly. Their only interaction was opening the cage once a day to put food in the bowl. [ :'( ] I was told "Don't try to touch him, he WILL bite!" At first this was true, if you put your hand anywhere near him he'd just attack. But that was just because he was neglected and frustrated. Little by little, he became more comfortable when he realized someone DOES care... and now he thrusts his face into my hand when he wants scritches. It's so precious! He also makes happy chirps when I sing silly songs about his ridiculous ears and big fluffy butt. ^_^

If you're having problems with your chinchilla biting, I recommend wearing gloves. When I tamed my late hamster, she used to bite a lot when handled, but wearing gloves gave me the confidence to not be scared of her and allowed her to get used to me without biting.

Chinchillas in most cases are not solitary animals, so I would recommend getting two of them. Since the one you are getting is a baby it should be easier to introduce other chinnies to it.

Only thing that worked for me as far as training is Walnuts. You're not supposed to feed them regulalry but I use a tiny piece as a treat. It was like crack for my chinchilla. Shed go NUTS and do ANYTHING for it. SHE COMES TO EVERY TIME NO WHEN i SAY "COME HERE" not treats necessary anymore.

I'm gonna ask for a chinchilla for Christmas. Normally I will go to my cousins house for most of Christmas. So if I do get a chinchilla for Christmas, idk if being gone the whole day and then suddenly showing up would scare a chinchilla. It may sound dumb but I'm trying to know everything I can about chinchillas. So this would help

It might scare him/her when you come back, but being gone will give it quiet time to explore their cage so it might help to be gone a bit. Just try not to be too loud when coming hack home and talk to your chin in a quiet voice when you approach it

I got my chinchillas a month ago and they're still not tamed so I have been looking for tips... definitely gonna try these steps

is it to late to let them alone? I got them yesteday and spend time adjust the cage inventory gave them a little bit food(normal not treats) from my hands or just stood next to it and don't move my hand inside the cage

So at the beginning when you leave them alone about how long would I do that for a week?? Also at the beginning how will you feed them, do spot cleans, and fill there water if you can´t go near there cage. Btw your channel is so helpful and Merlin is adorable!

Quick question where do you get the fabric for your trays

This helped me a lot and now my chinchilla will come to me whenever I go to its cage

I got a chinchilla a couple months ago, my friend got two chinchillas and they needed having a baby. My friend was afraid that the male was going to not going get along with the baby so she gave him to me. I have had him for a couple months and I’m worried that he might get depressed because he is lonely. I was wondering if I could pair him up with another chinchilla even though he is 3 years old.

Just adopted two baby girls ,their sisters, seem quite tame already, first day with them, how many days do they need to be kept in the cage alone before taking them out?

how do you tame them if you have already had them for like 3 years?

I have access to a chinchilla that is a few years old a few days a week. It is in a cage in a kitchen. Every time I go into the kitchen I hand it straw that it has kicked out of its cage (been at it for 3/4 months now) and it appears to be responding well. It is, however, still very timid. Any tips?

When i had a male chinchilla name Toyo in 2016, we instantly had a bond and a very unique one. Currently he would bite my lip and ear i assume he is kissing me.there a male shih tzu present and they get along so well the. He is aggressive at night while i am asleep and i ignore him then at times he hurts himself to get my attention. If its not aggresion, he gets frisky with me. I need help with those if your available please. l’ll give you more details

When I first got my chinci he would bite me out of fear and make me bleed usually. But with patience, consistency, and calmness he now knows me and only will knaw on my jewelry and will only nibble me when hes mad or scared. He never draws blood or gives me a painful bite anymore. Hes a total sweetheart and cutie, I love him to death.

Ever since he got out he kind of sits and close to the door and wants to get out. Where do you get your wood platforms from?

My Chinny is a resuce from a breader, shes had 3 different owners and shes kinda crabby but its completely understandable why she us that way. I've had her for almost a year but she still barks sometimes when I pick her up

I hope you can answer my questions I’ve been watching all your videos because I got two chinchillas and I’m pretty lost in all this chinchilla theme Buuuut, let me tell you, they were suppose to be mom and daughter and then the daughter got sick and I took her to the vet and found out she is actually a male Then I came back to see if the mom was actually his mom or his dad, and I’m 90% she is her dad :| The dad is about 6 years and the son is about 6 months but the baby doesn’t takes sand baths nor jump up and down (like if he were afraid of it) but I don’t get why, because his dad does like jumping and taking baths in front of his son, why is it like that? ALSO one them (not sure who) barks at night and in the morning, but they don’t seem to fight, that actually gets along pretty well, is it normal?? I have 2 chins named coco and chip, my parents keep telling me to keep them in the kitchen which i know is bad but they say ' They need to get used to us ' as an excuse. I see alot of people in the comments saying that they have one chinchilla, here in sweden its illegal to only have one, u need atleast 2 chins. Is it legal there to only have one? Ive got 3 boys

raychul an It’s not an actual hay rack for chinchillas. It’s from Walmart in the organization aisle. It’s a rack that hangs on the inside of cabinet doors💕

I just have one thing the I don't know yet? can you keep the cages in your room?

@6:18 My chinchilla was opposite: she hates head scratches and petting. But she would be very calm when petted her like a cat. Animals are alot more indivualized than I thought. Then again, Cheerios was a girl chinchilla... So I notice, that Merlin really loves chin scratches, Cheerios didnt hate scratches, but she looked more confused. Maybe calm. It was weird, like she couldn't feel anything there. God I miss her... I keep wondering if there was something I could have done better. I know she was store bought, and she was waaay older than what those assholes advertised. And they kept her cage right in front of the bird section. I couldn't believe. And whenever tried giving her back, the memory of seeing her hunched in a corner, just angry and miserable, and the birds of prey squawking loudly in the room, probably knowing she was just behind the wall, I couldn't give her back. Cheerios and I shared a common bond, we experienced alot of resentment from neglect. I hope she felt cared for.

what if i have to carry him to his play room

i feel like petsmart messed up my relationship with my chin cause they said to wait 3 days to do all this and after me doing this for 3 days i see these videos and i feel like i already messed things up cause i literally got 3 days ago

Ive had 2 chins for 2 yrs, so i had one and my sis had one. But after a year i saw she wasnt really liking him so she gave him to me so now im training him.

He does take food from my hand and sits and eats in front of my hand but when i try to scratch him under the chin he bites now

My chinchilla really likes being pet down the back all the way but he does have issues about his tail so I just don't really touch his tails that much and he loves being pet everywhere the only sensory thing he has is with his tail so I just leave his tail alone and he's staring at me right now

Merlin plus chin scratches is amazing

I love you so much can you please do another haul.

Well... You should leave them alone for a week maybe 2 weeks then start to bond with your new chinchilla

I just got two boys, my first chins, and one is super sweet and likes to lick my hand like a dog and grooms me super softly. His brother not so much lol, but he doesn't seem to dislike me, he comes to see me, doesn't run away or bark when he bites. He'll just be grooming or sniffing my hand and then he'll nip. I think he's just naturally more dominant though, he tries to push his brother away to get all the attention and the first chewing sticks I gave them he stole all of them and tried to hide them under the hay in their bowl 😂

What is the spelling of kind of boring

I have a question. So you said they you shouldn’t bother them for the first week or so but how do you clean the cage without bothering them?

Amanda Pandina I just go in every two or three days and move things slowly and gently and clean. Usually the chin runs away and that’s okay as long as you aren’t touching and bothering them. It’s difficult but I usually wait till it’s quite messy💕

The first time i lay my hand in their cage and 1 of them just sat for 15 on my hand he was so cute

I am about to adopt a Chinchilla from owners that no longer can take care of theirs. What do you suggest me to do to make him comfortable in a new space?

Hi. I also got a new one and I’m working on him with trying not to bite (he is young so he doesn’t mean to hurt me) and he is very friendly and he will go on top of my hand when I have sleeves on. I recommend just putting your hand in the cage and let him experiment with it. He will show you when he’s ready by crawling on top of it/jumping on your hand. Try this everyday and make sure he’s content and happy.

@@elonmusk8274 i just found out mine is two months old, ive tried the hand in cag, when i take him out and put him on the floor he just sits in one spot, he hasnt gone to the top of his cage like at all since ive had him, (it has mutiple floors) he just stays on the bottom idk why... What can i do for him to get used to me? Its been a week since i bought him home. And i never see him eat or drink unless im helping him... Ive tried rewarding him with treats.

Sadly my little boy marley died, he didnt even make it six days from petco. They are letting me pick up a new one on monday, they only hve girls. Im excited. Hopefully she lives longer. Its crazy how much i cried over a pet i just got. But i love and care for all my pets so im hopeful

Doesn’t hurt unless you make them scared or upset.

It'll bled. If it happens, don't pull away. Let them see that you're hurt. That way he feels guilty. And may sniff. And may never bite you again. But use mittens first!!!

So like my moms expensive jacket is really soft but i never the thought of it being real fur until I discovered chinchillas existed I was like, hey that chinchilla seems really soft like my moms jacket.. and then yesterday I just searched up chinchillas and KZread recommended chinchilla blankets and I was like, *wait those are the same exact pattern as my moms jacket* and I was like oml-
