I’m thinking of getting a chinchilla and I was worried about the space and temp they need but now I’m soo glad I have a large basement that always stays super cool

i just rescued a chin, so your vids have helped me out so much, he was in a tiny cage, he is in a rabbit cage with the smaller cage on top to give him height. im slowly working to getting him a taller cage. he is happy now with his new life and he bonded with me.

Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. One of my chins passed away last week. Showed no signs of being sick. Was running around playing then a few hours later was laying at bottom of cage barely moving . Next day I found him dead. Had an appointment at vet for next day but before i could go he was gone. Keep the awesome videos coming. Hope you have an amazing day.

Do you know if there were any recent changes in lifestyle or feeding routines? Or if there was plastic in the cage and what type of bedding did he have in his house? How old was he?

Hi. New subscriber here! Love all the info you are sharing. I apologize if this was asked before, do your chins have problems with bumblefoot? My last chin had it because there wasn't enough fleece. I love your tile idea because we're in Florida but don't want to create more problems either. Thanks a bunch!

I’d stick to wood, tile and fleece. You can get lots of fleece in bulk for cheap at any fabric store or just a huge blanket. And one large piece of wood should set you up and you can usually get it cut in store by a worker for your multiple ledges

Thinking of getting the Critter Nation cage for my chin. Do yours chew the plastic platforms?

Hey just wondering I plan on getting a chinchilla on my birthday and i prob will not have enough for the edition with the cage right away is it ok if I just have the standard one without for awhile?

The only hay I ahve from my previous hamsters I got the katee Timothy hay and oxbow alfalfa hay and oat hay from oxbow….. should I still use the katee Timothy hay

Just got a new chinchilla. I got a three level cage off Amazon. Very similar to urs. I'm gonna remove her ramps as she gets bigger to just ledges like urs. I keep her in a room with the heat shut off. It stays around 65. She is still small, 12 weeks old.

i just got a chinchilla, and his cage has three ledges instead of two floors. where do i find metal inserts to make the ledges into levels??

What do you use for bedding?

Im planing to get another chinchilla but i want to know as much as possible and get a gate if somthing so ya..

When i get a chinchilla should i put it near my window and open it sometimes to cool the room down??

I have wire flooring in my cages how do I make it more comfortable for my chinchilla to walk on. I know their feet can become sore, but I’m not sure what to do. 😕

what type of wheel do you use?

Do you recommend those fabric bedding/pads over the classic cage bedding? Example; the hamster, Guinea pig, chinchilla bed shavings/material? I’d rather have the fleece bedding liners you have!

I 100% recommend fleece liners over wood shavings. When you use fleece, you don’t have to buy more shavings when you run out saving you money. It’s also way cleaner, as your chinchilla won’t be able to kick fleece around as they would with shavings. Also you need to be careful when buying shavings and make sure the wood being used is safe. If you decide to use wood shavings, you would most likely have to buy really expensive metal replacement pans to go on the bottom of the cage, because most cages come with plastic pans to cover wired floors to avoid foot injuries, and if you use those your chinchilla may chew on them and obviously plastic is toxic. So obviously, wood shavings have a lot of cons.

This will probably help me a little Btw my chinchillas have never been eating plastic in my life they have never been caught and if we ever did we would take it out and they are 1 year and 2 year

The place doesn’t matter as much as what you get from them. For example, Oxbow’s food and toys are good and National Geographic has good toys, etc. 💕

Can anyone help me out. I got my daughter a chinchilla a few months ago and the cage we got has a plastic tray at the bottom that slides in and out. Our chinchilla started chewing holes in the corners of the plastic tray and can now escape through them. Anyone have any suggestions for a cage that doesn’t have that plastic tray? Hey uhm I watched your Video where you said that Chinchillas and other pets shouldn't hold together, so I'm getting in 3 moths 2 chinchillas to my birthday and when you have time it would be great if you could answer my question bcs I looked at the internet, but they are all saying different things so my question: Can I held my Dwarf Rabbit? Sorry I don't know the English word (bunny but smaller?) together with the chinchillas in the same room? So I mean not in the same cage but in one room? So it would be great if you or someone else could answer because I don't know and I don't want to hurt or disturb one of my pets so thanks :D.

I had a chinchilla when I was younger. The guy had us buy a tiny fish tank to put him in and he could only do a couple hops until he hit the other side. We had a wheel and a ball he could run around in but seeing this makes me want to educate that store on proper care. Even other exotic animals there he doesn't know how to handle them and just sells them to sell. He miss informs people to this day.

@@lunabritany7258 it’s different for every place. Exotic vets are really expensive that’s why I don’t go unless there’s an emergency. Checkups for my exotic vet are $135 and up💕

Like I mentioned in the video, there’s no difference besides the direction and width of the cage bars. So it’s the same cage and it’s good!💕

Common sneezing could be a couple of things. It could be a result of unclean habitat (make sure their living space is cleaned frequently), improper bedding (make sure there isn’t too much dust in their bedding), or health problems. If it isn’t their habitat or bedding, it could be a sign of teeth, or respiratory problems, so try going to the vet to see if it is an underlying medical problem. Hope this help!

Did you get one? a mink net can be used for building a cage. It is so strong it can almost stand on its own after bended. Just do not use chicken coop fencing net for it as they chew through it.

It’s alright as long as you close the toilet seat and clean the floor around the toilet and sink to make sure it’s clean and no bacteria around 💕

Aww congrats! I'd say give her lots of space. Sit in the room with her so she's used to you being around, but refrain from big movements and sounds and don't try and grab her. For me, this helped a lot with my chinchilla who has anxiety. She'll still freak out if I accidentally move suddenly to this day, but that method of just letting her come to you as she's comfortable really helped. We've "man handled" (picked up and touched) one of my other chinchillas a bit more and it's kind of made her more tame, but for my anxious one it hasn't helped. I'd say spend some time getting to know her, and also get some tips from pros! Cuz I'm just a fellow chin owner/lover ;)

The big ones on the top levels are from PetSmart. They’re only available in store, not online. The wooden square tunnel hut is from AZ Chinchillas and you can find it on their website💕

I got ours at Quality Cage Crafters. Pandemonium Pets also has 15” wheels. They have a Facebook page and also sell on Etsy. Because of lockdowns 🔐 the ones that are normally available on Amazon are scarce. The nice part of ordering off of Quality Or Pandemonium are that they have neat colours for wheels. We got a pink one for our girl.
