HOW TO TAME RED EYED CROCODILE SKINKS (Tribolonotus gracilis)
In today's video I'll be teaching you the methods I used to tame/condition my red eyed crocodile skinks (Tribolonotus gracilis) to tolerate minimal handling, tong feeding and some interaction! Hope you learn something helpful and hope you enjoy the video!

Wahoo! You asked for it! Here it is! I sincerely hope you guys enjoyed today's video on these amazing animals! I wanted to also add that unfortunately I can't really help you find them. They aren't very common and it's sad to see the trade is still predominantly flooded with wild collected croc skinks. I have some exciting plans under wraps to combat this in 2021 but more on that later. For now, a plea to those of my viewers looking to own these incredible lizards- please choose and support captive bred! Thank you! Don't forget to answer today's question of the day and see you all on Friday!

hey i have a pet green anole he loves mealworms and moths he's a picky eater he only eats white mealworms why is that?
thank you for encouraging people to pick this animal up as a pet. almost every You Tuber is saying that they are the worst pets to have and are just not worth it because of how reclusive they are. totally makes people not want these amazing animals. you on the other hand are showing just how incredible they can be with a little effort and patience

Yeah I agree- just because an animal doesn't love being held all the time does not make it a bad pet whatsoever! While you should not handle red eyed croc skinks all the time does not mean they can never be tamed. If it were me, I would tame it and handle every now and then (with food probably as motivation) to keep tame enough to where I can hold it for certain occasions. Of course it takes patience and not every individual is the same, but I would respect the creature and it's space and limits and patiently try to work with it.

Yes! I have a female Cuban Knight Anole who lives in the skyscraper terrarium, so I trained her to be 100% hand fed and leash trained. She goes on morning walks with my dog to get some natural direct sunlight time. She started out very wiley and would bite when I came into her territory. It took me about a month to get her to calm down and trust me picking her up. A year before I could get her to walk out onto my hand and offer a foot into her harness willingly. I love her! Love what you do and the training you do with your reptiles! As a vet tech, knowing your pets eating habits is really important to me. Keep up the videos showing people they are more than earlier generations believed!

I've tamed one of my snapping turtles. Her name is Raptor. I know, its a very friendly name. She is 8 inches shell length and never shows aggression. She is kinda food aggresive when she sees the feeding tongs but, when there isn't food involved she is tame. It took me 2 years and now I can finally rub her chin and top of her head and sometimes she likes to follow me around.

Hi Dayyan! I just needed this video♥️. My Gal, 3yo red eyed girl, escaped over the Christmas holiday while I was away (most likely with my cats help). I was worried sick to the literal meaning of it when my husband called me. As the holiday goes, I always stay with my family for few days and my dear behalf comes home early to take care of our animals. He was searching for 3 days without break and she finally let him spot her today! She simply appeared in the middle of the room. All stressed out, bit dehydrated and hungry but without scratch🙏. We were just getting to the point when she didnt mind me being behind the glass. ♥️. Anyway thank you for introducing this fantastic creatures to me and posting how you work with them! 👍♥️

I absolutely love this channel ❤️ For the question of the day; Yes, I was able to get quite a few of my reptiles comfortable with being handled. But I do have one Crestie that is taking a little longer to get comfortable around me. I have learned patience with him. I feel that if I force him he will never let me touch him again.

My Western Beardy, Sam, wasn't at all bothered by being handled. Even loved to sit on my shoulder. I was always gentle with her, and would often take her to bathe in natural sunlight. Wasn't all my doing, though; she was already good with being handled when I got her.

I love your method of positive Reinforcement I have been using it with my alligator lizards which are basically North American crocodile skinks they are very shy and very secretive but they crawl out on my arm to eat. this method works thanks Dayyan.
My False Cuban Chameleons have both heavily bonded with me and I with them! Male AND Female both love to spend body time on me, on my shoulder or on top of my head! Little to do with hand feeding although I did do some of that. I think they like being out because I keep it calm and quiet and they can hide on me and under my long hair. If I have had a long day with not much time with them, they kick up a fuss when they hear me and won’t stop until I hold them. I have fallen asleep and waking up, they are still snuggled on me! I love that this bond happened separate from their eating habits! Slow, gentle and quiet gives them an environment they trust!
Fantastic presentation. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

That little thing was so cute I thought it was fake. I swear when I clicked on it looked like a little piece of art. What an adorable lizard. It looks just like a Stargazer lizard. I learned about it watching Clint's reptiles. He went to one of your trade shows and that's when he showed us the Stargazer. It looked so much like a baby dragon that all that was missing were the wings. And now you have this precious little thing!!! I'm gagging. They're so cute
My savannah monitor i got as a hatchling became like a baby to me. He got excited when I would walk past his tank and just loved me holding him. His favorite spot was laying behind my neck and sleeping. He listened to commands and was all around a sweet heart
I love question of the day- technically not a reptile, but I was fortunate enough to tame my pet store bought, skittish and angry parakeet. He went from hating me in the room to allowing me to gently handle him! It took me about a year tho...

This is a really great video; it's easy to tell that you know what you are doing and that your animals are very trusting of you. Thanks so much for the support! I appreciate you recognizing how much work I put into what I do and how passionate I am about my animals! 😊
Honestly it's not just the food it's the dedication and time for you to help build that bond cause you can feed an animal all you want but time and dedication is where it's really at where you can really shine threw with your animals I've taken in so many "unhandlable " animals and I don't believe I take them but I do believe I become accepted by them taming is kinda a word I don't like using when it comes down to it because we can never truly tame nature that's why when I became an Exotics enthusiast. I never truly had friends nor family growing up but the one thing I'll never take back growing up is the fact my love for animals has only grown and for some reason animals love me to maybe it's because I respect them or maybe there's some special gift that I have that makes animals like me but I can safely say I've handled tons of animals that are bite now ask questions never that never once bit me...(besides my frogs who think I'm food) other than that never been tagged by a juvie Nile monitor or wild caught tokays the seem to just press themselves up to my hands as much as they can most of the time or try to climb all over me
Congratulations for the success of making a very shy animal comfortable with you! I never bought a red eye crocodile skink, because I saw that they are hiding so much. At which age it is the best? Are they more shy the first weeks?
The way he peeks is fucking adorable.
Before I moved here permanently to Florida, I came for a visit and caught some Anoles. I am a great lizard catcher. Anyway, back then I lived in my hometown of Charles City, Virginia. Well, I took them home and kept them until they all passed naturally. And NO they were just as wild and crazy as the day I caught them. But I so ❤ ed them anyway!!!

I've been looking for one... I'm still studying them though. So far, I like what I'm seeing. I mean, all things considered.
I have a leopard gecko I rescued from near death that grew attached to me super fast, I didn’t have to do anything lol. He gets excited and runs to the front of the tank when I walk into the reptile room and he wags his tail like a dog 😂😂😂, I can tong feed him and he walks right into my hand if I put it in the tank, he amazes me every day that I didn’t have to do absolutely anything lol. My white eyed crocodile skink acts just like your female red eye. Both my red eyed crocodile skinks are literally always hiding I never see them unless I get up really early and they are bathing in my waterfall feature I built lol
They are so freaking cute.

Cool video..btw is your crocsink wild caught or captive breed?
Yes I have a leopard gecko that I have condition to like me better and she’s comfortable next to me and she’s not Head shy and I can basically touch a training
I have Hypsilurus spinipes that will scratch the glass when I walk in the room and when I open the enclosure they will come out and jump on me just for the interaction even when I don't have a food.
6:50 i laughed do hard when the croc skink decided to pop up, and started staring at you. And at 7:20 you say they are watching at you, and you see the skink stare like o.O

Thanks for watching! I’m not sure where you heard they don’t live long. I’ve owned mine 4 years and I bought them as wc adults back then. They are still reproducing consistently so I would say they probably live a pretty long time!
I easily tamed my chameleon But our red eyes are shy as hell. It took us over a year that they slept in „open“ places without hiding 24/7. When I open the enclosure for feeding or watering the plants they run into the next hiding space as fast as possible. But that’s okay. They are shy animals ;) Greetings from Germany!

Hi Im Cindy from Korea and i adapted a pair of red eyed skink 2days ago. And i searched many things about them in Korea but I found that they are the nocturnal and really easy to die skink. - lack of info Im worried about my female skink because she look so small and weak. She is a bit bigger than your baby skink. She still has a light color head. My male one took a shower and sometimes goes around. He is bigger than her and starts to show red lines around his eyes - actually really tiny spot. I just put mealworm in wormdish. But she is still in her hiding place and didn’t eat at all. Are they okay? Sorry for asking and please let me know how can I take care them.
I used to have one of theses 6-7 years ago. I can't find an other T_T so hard to find
how long is ur terra ?
Where can i get one on USA???
My yellow ackie will crawl on my hand and tripod for a roach now. Originally he would run and hide when I opened the cage
What is your opinion on Indonesian Blue Tongue skinks I’m 13 and have kept reptiles for seven years. This will not be my first. I aspire to be a zoologist in the future. And blue tongues are one of my favourite reptiles. I know they can be wild caught so I would find a reputable breeder. I am also fine with humidity and temperatures.
Wow
These are on the list of my all time must haves but I won't be getting one until there is more of a captive bred population on the market so that I don't accidentally buy one that is wild caught
