    As a slider, I needed a refresh on this topic, and boy was it helpful. Your comments about the upper torso moving forward with the lower is gold. Setting up the pressure with your "drift" and applying vertical force is a missing link to stopping the lower body slide for me. A lot of us sliders worry when we do get the upper moving in concert with the lower that we will hit it fat; but, I'm guessing the improved lead shoulder rotation combined with the vertical forces take care of that. Golf Swing Geometry 101!

    Been working on this since I haven't gone out to practice because of the cold. One thing I noticed is that once I get that lateral shift over my lead foot, the straightening of my lead leg is what really gets the hip turning rather than forcibly trying to turn my hips independently. Is that a good way to think about it?

    This may be more personal or cause and effect, but I feel ball position (closer or further away from my body) contributes to sliding quite a bit. I find a lot of times, I progressively get further from the ball - in return having to slide just to maintain contact. To close and I hang back, and play wipe cuts. Gaining a consistent setup will give you more consistency, and allow what your working on to deliver successful results.

    Hey Mike and Shaun, awesome job as always! I had a question about the down swing with the trail arm. I hear a lot about the turn and it adds lead arm adduction to help with power, is their a correspondence if that is done where you would need more trail adduction to make up for it? Or is there any trail arm motion like that at all. I wasn't sure if you had a video about it already when i took a quick look but I'll keep looking, but just a question I have.

    Great video as always! I think there are another reason of the slide. If the weight transfer to the lead leg is early enough, the straightening of lead knee is too late the hip will move laterally. As you know Dr Kwon explains leg moves are like jumping turn. I think the early jump from the lead leg heel is nessesary to clear the hips before the impact. I wish you can make videos that shows the timing of lead leg postig up motion. Thank you.

    Really cool video. MG I’ve taken a couple online lessons from you and my lateral slide was a point of concern. I’m starting to actually understand what it means to get pressure left early and then “use the ground.” Never knew what to do with that term but it seems to me if I get pressure left early enough I can press/push my lead leg hard straight into the ground thereby “using the ground” to pivot effectively while generating power. It’s taken me a while but I think some lightbulbs are lighting up.

    The benefit of getting left early is that you can stop it early. It sounds like you might be still moving left as you're contacting the ball. That's just a guess based on experience. Hard to say for sure without seeing your swing.

    So rotation should be created by how the body is moving in conjunction with the ground forces not by a physical “spinning” of the hips? I’ve read some of Kelvin’s stuff that says that pros don’t actually try to rotate, their rotation is a result of how they move and ground forces. Is this an accurate interpretation?

  • @AthleticMotionGolf

    Sliding is the result of not rotating. The hips are supposed to move laterally as much as possible, but that must be combined with rotation. That will make it impossible to slide. If you look closely at really great players, the lateral movement of the hips in the backswing is often the first movement they make.

  • @bjohnson515
    @bjohnson5155 жыл бұрын

    Lateral move early, in the backswing when the club begins to travel toward the target. Then, the golfer can brace with the left leg, rotate the left hip AWAY from the target in the downswing. When the lateral move is early and then braced, the head and EYES can stay steady through impact. Your comment from an earlier video..."you can not slide through impact" is key. Early. Braced. Great stuff fellas.

  • @AthleticMotionGolf

    @AthleticMotionGolf

    5 жыл бұрын

    A couple points... no assumptions were made. We've collected several thousands swings from amateur golfers, to a percentage in the high 90's, they shift too late. Too much and too early are two distinctly different issues. Unless you're shifting forward right off the ball, it's hard to be too early. Too much is addressed in this video along with a very simple way to fix it. Also, golfers who describe it the way you have are shifting their hips forward out from under their upper body. Make sure that any forward shift includes both.
