Wow, hallelujah moment watching this video. Can’t wait to practice this. Thanks guys!
Great stuff again fellas! Really enjoy the teaching from you guys! Keep it up!
Excellent . This is a magic move in downswing.
I've learnt so much from these guys. Thank you for your content!
Great video guys,I am learning how much I did not know about the golf swing. Finally starting to get more consistent ,I was a 5 and I am starting to improve my scores after several years of inconsistent play. Thanks.
Such awesome stuff guys as usual, thanks so much for putting your stuff out there, and inspiring me to do the same on my channel. Great job and can't wait to keep hearing more!
Very good informative presentation with a good visual prop. Thanks for posting.
love the 3d golfer to use to show your point and you explain things in such an easy format to follow
Grèat video, as usual, brilliant, 1st class instruction!
Great explanation, thx
Great video, you guys are giving away the keys to the kingdom for free!
Watching this and combining it with yesterday's driver video made me realize my head is sliding backwards in the backswing. Not hips, but flat turn. That is what was giving me all kinds of inconsistencies and now I have something to work on. Thanks a lot.
My new favourite golf channel .
As a slider, I needed a refresh on this topic, and boy was it helpful. Your comments about the upper torso moving forward with the lower is gold. Setting up the pressure with your "drift" and applying vertical force is a missing link to stopping the lower body slide for me. A lot of us sliders worry when we do get the upper moving in concert with the lower that we will hit it fat; but, I'm guessing the improved lead shoulder rotation combined with the vertical forces take care of that. Golf Swing Geometry 101!
Crazy good video
Great video chaps, very well explained, its my bug bear in my swing, as its impossible to shift pressure and rotate in downswing in the 1/2 second or less of a downswing, appreciate the reminder chaps thanks.
You guys are the Mercedes of golf channels.
01:25 - I never thought of this. “Most common cause is not being on the front side early enough.” This seems like a REALLY USEFUL distinction for me. Thank you Shaun and Mike!
I need to practice the hell out of this. thanks for making this as it specifically talks about that lower drive making the head fall back. killer move.
I can barely keep up. A new video almost every day!!
This is not one of my (many) faults, but I like the way you both explained and demonstrated the issue. Good teaching.
The "why" is what is so helpful. There are lots of videos on how not to but without the why it is incomplete.
It's Jan1, it's winter here in Canada and I was searching the Web for some golf instruction to start the new year with. I watched a couple of your videos and really liked your down to earth, rather simple approach to the golf swing. I gladly subscribed and I am looking forward to your upcoming videos while still viewing some of your previous ones. Happy New Year Fellas!!

I had way too much of a slide this summer. If was embarrasing snap hooking every drive or a massive block. Had some lessons and now back on track. Thanks for the explanation. Always love the content.

If I slide early, I get stuck every time, no chance to get the club around in front. You guys have helped me tremendously. I get my head in gear, we're back to a Plus handicap...Thanks!

Golf Swing Lateral Motion: Pros vs Ams

Love it!
Been working on this since I haven't gone out to practice because of the cold. One thing I noticed is that once I get that lateral shift over my lead foot, the straightening of my lead leg is what really gets the hip turning rather than forcibly trying to turn my hips independently. Is that a good way to think about it?
@AthleticMotionGolf

That's exactly what should be happening, Casey👊
This may be more personal or cause and effect, but I feel ball position (closer or further away from my body) contributes to sliding quite a bit. I find a lot of times, I progressively get further from the ball - in return having to slide just to maintain contact. To close and I hang back, and play wipe cuts. Gaining a consistent setup will give you more consistency, and allow what your working on to deliver successful results.
Hi guys. INCREDIBLE content & a depth of analysis I can really appreciate. Could I ask that you do a video on all the PGA Tour Winners you have done with video graphics on in terms of comparing them to each other and what degree of variation is present between them. I'd be very interested to know how much wiggle room is possible yet still effective (across all joints/movements). Thanks guys.

Love the idea, but man that would be one loooooong video. It is fascinating seeing that info though😉
Hey Mike and Shaun, awesome job as always! I had a question about the down swing with the trail arm. I hear a lot about the turn and it adds lead arm adduction to help with power, is their a correspondence if that is done where you would need more trail adduction to make up for it? Or is there any trail arm motion like that at all. I wasn't sure if you had a video about it already when i took a quick look but I'll keep looking, but just a question I have.
@AthleticMotionGolf

Great question, Scott. I would just be guessing on the amounts and frequency because Gears only has the info for lead shoulder/arm. I'm very curious about those things too in the trail arm... hopefully that will be in an update soon! If it is, you know we'll share it😉

@@AthleticMotionGolf Awesome, yea I have my theory about it, but was wondering if there was hard data about it.
Great video guys, just what the doctor ordered 👍
I do this. It started after I tried to add better sequencing with step drills etc. It's extremely hard to shift a bit without shifting a lot.
Great tips thanks. This is absolutely stopping me from having any consistency at all. Is there a way for me to send you my video to look at from yesterday?

Sure, Rich, we have two ways we can help you with your swing - an online lesson or an AMG+. I'll link both in case you are interested. athleticmotiongolf.com/ilessons/ athleticmotiongolf.com/amg-plus/
Where I can book a lesson with you guys?
Great video as always! I think there are another reason of the slide. If the weight transfer to the lead leg is early enough, the straightening of lead knee is too late the hip will move laterally. As you know Dr Kwon explains leg moves are like jumping turn. I think the early jump from the lead leg heel is nessesary to clear the hips before the impact. I wish you can make videos that shows the timing of lead leg postig up motion. Thank you.

You can see some lead leg data in this one: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gaFszrSuZsqTnbw.html
So, is what Mo Norman was doing was an over slide sort of speak? Also, Lee Travino talks about keeping his knees bent throughout the swing. I still do what you guys are teaching, but maybe I get into my post position too fast losing distance.
Really cool video. MG I’ve taken a couple online lessons from you and my lateral slide was a point of concern. I’m starting to actually understand what it means to get pressure left early and then “use the ground.” Never knew what to do with that term but it seems to me if I get pressure left early enough I can press/push my lead leg hard straight into the ground thereby “using the ground” to pivot effectively while generating power. It’s taken me a while but I think some lightbulbs are lighting up.

What do you refer to sliding as when the lateral movement too early?
@AthleticMotionGolf

Typically caused when it's too late.
Trying this move, has improved my ball striking especially with irons but pushing driver quite badly, any ideas?
@AthleticMotionGolf

The benefit of getting left early is that you can stop it early. It sounds like you might be still moving left as you're contacting the ball. That's just a guess based on experience. Hard to say for sure without seeing your swing.
Please show a detail driver swing, I seem to b missing over looking it in your videos.

We have quite a few... just search our youtube channel and you'll find them :)
So rotation should be created by how the body is moving in conjunction with the ground forces not by a physical “spinning” of the hips? I’ve read some of Kelvin’s stuff that says that pros don’t actually try to rotate, their rotation is a result of how they move and ground forces. Is this an accurate interpretation?
@AthleticMotionGolf
5 жыл бұрын
We would say that using the ground is the best way to create rotation at the right times with less rotational effort.
I've been sliding early :( Thanks AMG!

Early is good is what they said
Do you allow your head to move forward with the upper body? Some pros say you can get the upper body ahead without moving the head but I can’t see how it is possible? Most players on video allow their head to drift forward with their upper body. Am I seeing this correctly?
@AthleticMotionGolf

Yes you are. We did a recent video on head movement during the swing featuring a ton of pros, you might enjoy seeing what's happening with their head movements.
Great video, but isn't the left hip suppose to be inside the the left foot at impact instead of even with it?

steve perry just an opinion but I have found when the vertical force is timed right you can have a consistent low point in which takes away fat/thin shots.

ok, it was all right here, thats what i get fo watching w/o the sound. my wife gets mad sometimes if i'm watching golf videos in her presence. she likes my undivided attention. that's all you care about is golf, haven't you learned that yet.
I now always start my downswing with the torque of the lateral muscle of my lead thigh turning counterclockwise followed by the lateral side muscles of my lead upper torso tuning counterclockwise. From there my swing is placed on automatic. Cheers
1:45 "No one wants to hit it fat, the worst shot in golf" No Sr. The worst shot in golf is the shank. Period. Nice video
@AthleticMotionGolf
5 жыл бұрын
We polled that very question. Shank was 2nd. We stand by our statement😂 Now if someone has the fat shanks watch out!
Tell that to Trevino, couples, Snead, Jack etc etc etc
Sliding is the result of not rotating. The hips are supposed to move laterally as much as possible, but that must be combined with rotation. That will make it impossible to slide. If you look closely at really great players, the lateral movement of the hips in the backswing is often the first movement they make.
Lateral move early, in the backswing when the club begins to travel toward the target. Then, the golfer can brace with the left leg, rotate the left hip AWAY from the target in the downswing. When the lateral move is early and then braced, the head and EYES can stay steady through impact. Your comment from an earlier video..."you can not slide through impact" is key. Early. Braced. Great stuff fellas.

You nailed it!
I always have the problem of sliding and leaving my upper body back. Great video to help correct a problem. A sidenote when you do that too much your front side hip will get sore.
Re-center, BEFORE you reach the top of the swing and and you won't need to " slide" to move onto the left foot. You will already be there.
Slip sliding away aaay.
Go away Mr ‘15 shots’ advert man!!!
I think you need to drift in the down in the swing, but isn't that a slide?
How can 16 people not like this video?

I'm sliding too much too early, meaning too quickly. Disappointed this didn't help me because you assumed people shift too late...maybe you can make a version of this for people who shift too early.
@AthleticMotionGolf
5 жыл бұрын
A couple points... no assumptions were made. We've collected several thousands swings from amateur golfers, to a percentage in the high 90's, they shift too late. Too much and too early are two distinctly different issues. Unless you're shifting forward right off the ball, it's hard to be too early. Too much is addressed in this video along with a very simple way to fix it. Also, golfers who describe it the way you have are shifting their hips forward out from under their upper body. Make sure that any forward shift includes both.
