Arguably the most anticipated car of 2021, the 992 GT3 receives aerodynamic upgrades that has made the seemingly impossible, possible. The 991 GT3 left very little room for improvement, but a 17 second quicker Nürburgring lap time produced by the 992 GT3 demonstrates the monumental gains over the practically perfect previous generation. This has been achieved by the Porsche engineers working tirelessly on the design to create the most amount of downforce possible. The new swan-neck rear wing is not only a work of art, but is also a functioning masterpiece, delivering up to 4 times more downforce than the rear wing of its predecessor. Put the wing in the performance aero setting and Porsche claim the 992 GT3 delivers twice as much downforce - for use on the track, of course.
To match the rear-end performance, the front suspension has derived from the 911 RSR. For the first time, the GT3 utilises a double wishbone setup which provides greater stability and more negative camber which in turn means the front tyres have more contact with the ground around corners. Combined with the wider front track, the 992 GT3 has more grip through corners and immediate steering response.
Porsche could have stuck turbochargers into the new GT3 like the rest of the 992 range, but thankfully the 4.0 naturally aspirated flat-six remains. Even with the GPF filters, the flat-six still sings all the way up to the 9000rpm redline. Individual throttle bodies have been added for the 992 to increase the throttle response, which was already razor sharp for the 991 generation.
The interior is one that we are now familiar with since the launch of the 992-model range, with everything important to the driver within effortless reach. Porsche always seem to be ahead of the curve with their production and track cars, the 992 GT3 being no exception to this, combining the best of both worlds into one precise and entertaining package.

For me, if I’m going to get a loud car, might as well get the loud wing to go with it!

Exactly, no wing no GT3. AND the biggest weakness of the GT3 is low torque. You must be in the correct gear at the right speed to use this car correctly ( I’ve had 2 manual GT3s) one mistake even in a little drag race and you’ll get toasted by a M3. SO what fixes that? A PDK. It eliminates the largest weakness of the GT3 and allows you to stay competitive with cars with more torque

Beautifully done Tom. Lots of very useful information here. I'd love to see another of your videos regarding equipping a GT3 Touring.
This is an outstanding guide. I appreciate the excellent tips and advice.
I'd have both. The Touring for the road and the standard for the track..If I had to choose between them then I'll take a Touring with a Manual box in Either Gentian Blue with Silver or Neodyme Alloys or Dolomite Silver with Silver alloys..Just the right amount of understated cool.

In reference to the carbon ceramic brakes, I would like to highlight an important point you forgot to mention: they require to warm up to a certain optimum operating temperature in order to reach peak performance. A tough task for regular street users, yet easily achievable on the track.

Amazing video again as always 2 fantastic cars I would go for PDK gearbox again
Thank you!
Here’s the truth about the GT3, I’ve had 3 GT3s 2 manual one PDK. ( 996, 997.1, 991.2) The largest weakness of the GT3 is low torque. If you tracking your car which by the way THE PURPOSE of the GT3, and you’re in the incorrect gear there’s not enough torque to pull you out of that mistake. Even in a little drag race, if you’re in one gear too high you’ll get smoked by a M3. The PDK eliminates any mistake in shifting and delivers immediate gratification in driving to correct line. Even if you get to the point where you do one lap perfectly in a whole day shifting wise you’re going to screw up your line because you’re concentrating so much on making the correct shift because of lack of torque. Because you’re slower than other cars especially when you goof up your gear shifts . Sure if you ever get both right it’ll be rewarding, but the PDK is immediately rewarding. But you still need to hit your turning and breaking points. I don’t understand why you’d buy a track purposed car THEN select the slower car. For what? I think it’s just a cover for getting your ass kicked all the time. You can say “well I derive more pleasure being more involved with my car” while getting passed by every M3 corvette and every other car on the track. Use the paddles they’re just as fun. The manual has auto blip etc so you’re really not becoming the greatest heel & toe driver anyway. Buy the faster car! As far as the PCCB Brakes I had them on the first two and refused them on the third. Replacing rotors either through wear or damage, which happens more than Porsche will admit is a huge cost. and it’s a constant worry. Just the stress of tracking and worrying about them isn’t worth $9000 USD. Of Course This guy wants you to, he’ll get more dough. Porsches steel brakes are the best in the world and unless your a factory driver you won’t notice them unless your track has 54 turns per lap. I’ll admit the better drivers will notice the unsprung weight on turn in which he didn’t mention and that’s really the best reason to get them. He’s telling you need them “ because it’s a GT3 “ but then tells you to get the slower manual transmission. Hmmm . The fixed back carbon seats ARE NOT comfortable especially on long drives. The standard 4 way seats are serviceable and are the lightest seat in the line. Then he tells you to get the BOSE system ( it costs more OF COURSE) but the real music IS OUT BACK!!! Don’t waste your money. If you want to put your touch on the car with carbon, stitching colors etc go ahead. It’s probably your dream car. And that’s your choice and if you followed my advice you’ll have $15-$18,000 more to play with. But after 3 GT3s I get the most enjoyment out of this setup: PDK, Standard brakes, Standard 4 way seats, standard stereo. The rest is up to you. Front lift is mandatory. Good luck and good driving!!!
Excellent video ! Hope to see more content from you !! Cheers!
great video
I spec’d mine in 1:16 scale, I look forward to taking delivery.
I went PDK no regrets.
Engaging and useful video. Previously, odd colours on GT and RS models, were unpopular new, but years on, they are rare and sought after. If you’re lucky enough to buy one of these cars at list price, I think order what you like, not try and predict future demand. Touring in Silver or Graphite looks like a long term ownership proposition to me. Not sure about the box. Prefer manual, but six speeds might just be too much. I have a 7 litre 427 Cobra and you simply can’t change gear fast enough to extract all the performance.
Thanks for video. How many gt3s are being made?
A refreshingly different review, which whilst subjective, was very interesting. Thanks.
Does the full buck seats more comfort for daily ride?. Thanks
awesome driving machine
I like the lip spoiler on the GTS It be nice on targa

@@CameronVarnish Not true. I enquired about getting a Touring with rear seats....and hold on to your hats......sunroof. It was a 'no'! I think they are missing a trick with the Touring. Instead of just lopping the rear wing off, why don't they create a GT3 for the road, with all the options you may want in a road car?
@johannesb7013
2 жыл бұрын
@@nickgalla-barth6336 A GT3 is essentially a racecar for the road, the touring package adds just a bit more stealth for the look. Keep in mind that this is a pure drivers car with focus on performance, driving excellence and fun. A sunroof wouldn't make any sense since that adds so much weight and even worse to the top of the car shifting the center of gravity. Rear seats I agree would be cool but again don't seem to fit the theme of the car. In terms of other options you have nearly everything you could want though, modern infotainment, apple carplay, BOSE speakers, AC, heated seats, RGB Interior lights etc.
@nickgalla-barth6336
2 жыл бұрын
@@johannesb7013 I'm not sure I would notice the weight difference nor the centre of gravity, but I agree, this is the reason they don't offer it, but Porsche are slightly 'having their cake and eating it' by saying this is a pure drivers car, but then jamming it full of speakers and window motors!
@johannesb7013
2 жыл бұрын
@@nickgalla-barth6336 I agree totally. Of course it's also a business strategy because by that they justify the 911 speedster which is essentially a GT3 convertible. Maybe many wouldn't buy Speedster if the GT3 had a sunroof that offered that "open feel". About all the extras that essentially add weight: You are definitely right, they just realised that basic comfort-extras need to be available for the customers interested in a racecar for the road that costs 200k
I think it should actually be titled 'how to buy a GT3' as no one actually can unless they have done something illegal or have a Tube channel!

Do you have to spec the 90 litre fuel tank as with the 991/2, or is it standard on the 992? It’s a must have for resale I think.

Would black uni be an acceptable color ? I like the deepness of black uni
Never noticed but the RHD cars have the gear lever flicking to the left just like the LHD (away from driver)? One would think Porsche would have "mirror imaged" that linkage/shifter assembly for better ergonomics? Guess bean counters won again...
I have a tip for you sir. I help presenters and public figures look their best in front of cameras. Just like I suggested to Danilo Romollini @ Christies Real Estate, you should take your huge cell phone out of your pocket when doing these presentations. It not only looks professional but, keeps viewers from being distracted. (Is that a cell phone in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?) That's it! If only the people who really wanted a GT3 had the opportunity to order one instead of build slots going to the flippers, KZreadrs and privileged few

Gentian Blue GT3 Touring silver wheels and aluminum window surrounds
So you want ceramic brakes if you’re going to track the car but you don’t want ceramic brakes if you’re going to track the car.
It is funny how you talk about resale value for these cars. Buying a car is not a financial investment. These cars are about passion and emotion.

Driving the 992 GT3 for about a 3 months...the part about the brakes is very questionable. If you track the car regularly you don't want to wear the ceramic brakes because they cost 5000 euros EACH!!! If you go on the track with the car, go for steel and make you a favour!

Absolutely, I track a GT4 on steels and never ever have they faded after 3x30min of hard driving on track. Brake dust is fixed with a simple wash, and a few people I know who regularly drive their GT-products on track swap their ceramics for steels because of the price.
