Did you know Who Shot Mr Burns can be solved with just the first episode alone? Let's see how they did it!
So yeah, I'm trying something brand new here, different to much of my previous videos. It's part video essay and part animated storytime, I guess?

She shot and cripple multiple mobster without the parents or said Mobsters realizing where the shots were coming from (somehow). The whole scene is both a Deus Ex Machina and a joke on Maggie shooting Burns on purpose... wich kinda gave her abit of a Stewie vibe but less edgier. What suprises me more is that we didnt get a future episode with Maggie being a Hitman of some kind.

I guessed it was Maggie, precisely because she was the least likely. I had just finished reading a book called "The Eleventh Hour" by Graeme Base, which was a mystery picture book about 11 different animals accused of eating an entire feast by themselves. Turned out it was the mouse who ate the feast by himself, which was obviously the least likely suspect. From that point on, as a kid, I would always guess that the culprit was the least likely suspect, not based on evidence, just based on what I assumed writers would do to try to make their mystery as difficult to solve as possible.

There’s actually a theory that’s kinda of the same as your idea. It’s that homer shot Mr burns by dressing as Krusty The Clown. You can also see that in the wind scene, The krusty isn’t actually krusty. It’s Homer Simpson in his costume. There’s key differences between there costumes. Mr burns said it was Maggie to try and black mail krusty but since krusty knows he didn’t do it burns is out of luck. I didn’t make this up myself. I saw it on a video by therealjims

I’ve watched this video dozens of times and I always noticed an error Eddache made. I wondered if that disproved his point, and I discovered a rabbit hole that only further proves his point. At 11:23, Eddache notes how Smithers leaves the town hall in the opposite direction to Burns. This is untrue, as Smithers turns left from the town hall, and in the very next shot Eddache shows, he shows that Mr. Burns also turned left on his way to the car park. And I wondered, does this mean Smithers could’ve been the one in the car park? The answer is no, and the extra clue showing us that has been right under our noses this whole time, or under our ears to be precise. What does Mr. Burns say when he enters the car park? “Oh it’s you. What are you so *’happy’* about?” Happy. He notes that the person who later shot him was happy when he found them. This makes sense, as the episode expects us to believe his killer was someone who had it out for him, and would gleefully welcome the chance to get their revenge with a smile on their face. But who was the only suspect who was neither angry at Burns, nor could gleefully want revenge? Smithers. Smithers was heartbroken, he had a very close relationship with Mr. Burns and that was thrown away, leaving him sad and depressed. He barely shows any real malice towards Burns at the town hall meeting but he is upset. But I doubt even Smithers at that point could bring himself to harm Burns, regardless of how he was treated. Which brings us to Burns’ quote. Smithers seems like the last guy who’d be smiling after the meeting, I doubt he could even try to force himself to smile at that point. But he does enjoy Pardon My Zinger, so if he would be smiling at 3:00pm, it’d be watching the show somewhere else and not at the car park. So even if he did leave in the same direction as Mr. Burns and if you decide to ignore him never missing Pardon My Zinger so he could be at the car park, there would still be no reason for Smithers to be happy at that time, and thus, the shooter cannot be him. It’s amazing that along with the myriad of other clues showing it couldn’t be Smithers, they actually wrote it in a way that it couldn’t be him based on his character. Only goes to show how well this murder mystery was written.

@Suffer No Fools Because he takes the time to point out intentional design decisions that are a core part of a fantastic piece of television history. These are things that a majority of the casual viewing audience would've completely missed, and even if they theoretically all saw it (I sure a heck didn't, given that I was a child when I saw the episode), sometimes it's just a cool idea to appreciate when media goes above and beyond to deliver a cohesive, well-written, and above all, a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The video is decently structured, paced, and edited. There's a bit of waffle, but it fundamentally achieves what it sets out to do in a light-hearted, fun way. There's very little you can fault it on, it's not misleading, and quite frankly, I think it's a shining beacon for what every video on KZread should strive toward. It is the polar opposite of shish like Game Theory.

You ever step back and think of how much of a risk making Maggie the shooter was?! That could have easily back fired, if it wasn't so perfectly executed. Fan backlash would have been outrageous of disliked because it was such a big cliffhanger and outrageous ending. It's legitmately only something golden era Simpsons could pull off. It's hard to say why this ended up working, but thankfully it did. I believe it was the conviction the writers had, that they planned on it and made a great mystery (like described in this video).

David Silverman has claimed that Smithers was always intended to be "Mr Burns' white sycophant", and the staff thought it "would be a bad idea to have a black subservient character" and so switched him to his intended color for his next episode. We all know it was actually Graggle Simpson who shot him. He even pointed on the sundial to 'S' for South and Simpson, as well as 'G' for Gwest and Graggle. Edit: Apparently noone else had the Director's Cut.

1:10 Apu and Moe shooting are jokes from a later episode, the only other ending they actually made was Smithers being guilty.

I think in the anniversary episode they mentioned animating multiple clips of Burns getting shot by different suspects, such as Apu and Moe, to throw people off the scent. But yes, the only red herring ending they truly committed to was Smithers - they recorded and animated the whole scene in the hospital just so it would work.

The decoy animations do have different guns in their own right, mind, including, iirc, Moe using his shotgun, as well as Apu using a SMG. It being a single gunshot wound, likely from Burns' own revolver, was a major intended clue.

There is another clue to (maybe) solve who shot Burns. If you watch the part of Moe and Apu shooting Burns you can see marges car with maggie inside. Wow that is so sneeky of the creators to just watch one clip and know who is the culprit. Edit: thx for uploading this on my birthday.
