    This is the best lesson I've seen in a long time. The key is, you are breaking down the actual thought process behind the choices. It's not just a "do what I do" type of lesson. You're explaining why choices are made, thus giving a watcher the freedom we are all looking for. Thanks for this one, especially.

    Been playing guitar for almost 20 years. Just now got my first bass, believe it or not. So much fun! Even though all my dexterity, finger stamina, muscle memory and all that jazz, I´m approaching my new instrument as if I´m a complete beginner. I wanna get things right the first time, properly! Browsed a lot of bass stuff, channels... this is the one that spoke to me most thus far! subscribed!

    As a flamenco player I have more technicalities in common with a bassist than a metal 6-string player. Although I’m often in Phrygian. Very cool video. Loving the groove. Wonderful, thank you.

    Are you just saying that C7 is the V of F Maj, and any mode of F Maj will work?

  • @badboyhotstar

    @badboyhotstar

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes. C Mixolydian is the V scale/mode of F Major/Ionian and the C7 Chord is formed from the C Mixolydian scale. That's where the Bb in the chord came from. you can run the Bb Lydian scale, the D Aeolian scale, the G Dorian scale, etc. any mode of F Major or in the context of this video, any mode of C Mixolydian since C is the root note here, not F.

    Wait wait wait. Just blew my mind. So you just basically said if I know I’m starting in mixolydian I just need to play up two scale degrees and run the locrian pattern from there? So help me figure out that I’m in C mixolydian? Is it literally matching the chord tones and doing the arithmetic?

    Question: so C9 automatically implies a flatted 7th?

  • @hisnibs1121

    Yes. The chord written & spoken as C9 is a C dominant 9, comprising the 1st, 3rd, 5th, flattened 7th, and the 9th (counting from the root note). If the 7th were to be natural (not flattened) the chord would be written as CMaj9, spoken as C major 9, and comprise the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th.

    To be able to improvise, you must have music singing in your head, if there us nothing there, there is no improvisation. If you do have, then scales are not important, play whatever you have in your head.....
