How to Sing Harmonies for Beginners
Ойын-сауық
Singing harmonies can elevate singing to a breathtakingly beautiful sound. But singing harmonies doesn't come naturally to all singers. Which is nothing to be concerned about... the great news is that with dedicated practice and some guidance, you'll be well on your way to singing harmonies!
Harmony is singing two or more different notes together in a way that sounds pleasing. And it's one of the harder things to do as a singer - but it's certainly possible with practice. There are some simple ways to pick out harmonies that Singeo coaches, Lisa Witt and Julia Ziegler will break down for you in this video.

@@rhedrhed2064 Try to pick songs that already have harmonies in it, then focus on singing the harmony with them. You're going to develop a sense for it and it's easier to learn than having to do it immediately yourself.

@@huntma3787 uHm?? lmao i'm pretty sure that i am, i've been in choir and i've performed with a band a few times, harmonizing was not the problem it's more that they're trying to sing along with the main melody and it's confusing for them when i harmonize haha
I sing in choir so I technically already knew this but I didn't really understand how to apply it to other non choir songs, Thank you for explaining!!
Thanks ladies, I've been asking so many "musicians" to teach me this, but to no avail..I'm blessed at the age of 73 to have met with you! What a joyful blessing 🙌 💖 ✨️

Wow, I'm so glad this is helpful and that you enjoyed this video! Thank you so much for watching and keep singing! 🙂
You can hear the harmonies in the music if you're struggling to find the note. Years ago, there was a pastor who visited the church I attended whose daughter could sing harmony naturally as if she was singing the melody. It was amazing. Simon and Garfunkel are a good listening reference for harmonizing.

Yes! I have always struggled with harmony. So I try to focus in on one of the instruments being played, and I can usually hear it. I have improved so much since I started doing that
Love from Kerala, India
Thanks for the video! I'm a worship leader and I'm trying to teach a couple of our new vocalists how to hear harmonies. It would be awesome to see a video on 3 part harmonies. Sometimes those get a little more complex. There are times when one of the parts needs to stay place while the others move in the same direction. Also, harmonies can be more difficult when you have a song with accidentals. But this is great! Thanks again!
Thank you for that... I've been wanting to learn about harmonies for ages!
Y'know how sometimes you've missed something obvious for, like, ever, and one day something clicks it into place? I learned to sing harmony (any part of standard 4 part harmony) from listening to my parents and extended family who all played instruments and sang. Once I started writing songs 15 years ago I nailed down basic music theory, the old 1-4-5 pop song, etc. As a bass player, knowing the Nashville numbering system for notes and chords was the Holy Grail. Then, friends started asking me how to sing harmony. And I couldn't tell them. Now I can. Because, while it's not easy, it IS simple. Listen to scale intervals, then twist and shout your way to a harmony. Thank you :)

Alice in Chains had perhaps single handedly established the inexplicable beauty of harmonizing vocals for me. Laney and Jerry together layered such immaculate harmonies that made me look for tutorials on how to actually do it. This was a great introduction to practicing harmonies. Great job 👍

Hello how are you
I've been following Pianote for a while now, but I'm only just discovering this channel!! Very nice primer on how to hear and sing basic harmony. "Free Falling" was an excellent example song to choose. One thing I miss about music school is the ready availability of people to sing and play extra parts as I write them or think them up, so the the four-part V7 was fun to watch. If anybody asks me how to sing harmonies, I'm sending them HERE.

Thanks for the awesome video. As a man, my bandmate wants me to sing "low harmony" which I believe is the 3rd (and so forth) *below* the melody note. I struggle with this, but I think I can use this vid to work on my ever-struggling low harmony. Thanks!
@SingeoOfficial
Жыл бұрын
Yeah! If you're looking for a lower harmony, you'll want to find a third, fourth or fifth below the melody, depending on where the melody is.... To find a descending minor third you can use the cheat song "Hey Jude" to hear the interval, to find a lower major third you can use the song "Swing low sweet chariot", for a fourth below you can use "O come all ye faithful" and for a fifth below you can use the Flintstones song. Think of the song to help you find the interval below the melody. 👍🏼
This was so helpful to me. Thank you!!
