How to Roast Garlic

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Roast Garlic is amazing - it doesn't even seem like garlic. If you want a delicious treat that can be used in recipes - and will make your place smell unbelievable roast yourself some garlic. It can be used in soups, butters, oils, or simply put on bread. It can also be used in recipes that call for garlic - just make sure to double the amount of garlic as this doesn't have the same punch that raw garlic has.

INGREDIENTS:
- Garlic
- Olive oil
- Salt
HARDWARE
- baking sheet
- aluminum foil
- a jar
DIRECTIONS
Method 1
- Preheat the oven to 400 F / 205 C.
- Cut the top of the head of garlic off, just enough to reveal the cloves inside.
- Cut a piece of aluminum foil and place under the head of garlic.
- Pour a little bit of olive oil into the opening you just cut.
- Wrap the head of garlic in the foil so that it is tightly sealed.
- Repeat for as many heads of garlic as desired.
- Place the heads onto a baking sheet and place into the oven.
- Cook for 45 minutes to an hour.
- Remove from the oven and let cool.
- Unwrap the garlic heads and squeeze the garlic paste into a jar. It's messy business. Try not to get any skin in your container.
- The garlic can be used as is, or submerged in olive oil. If in olive oil, make sure it is completely submerged or place it into the fridge to prevent mold.
Method 2
- Preheat the oven to 400 F / 205 C.
- Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
- Separate as many cloves as desired from a head of garlic and place into a container or a small jar.
- Lightly coat the garlic cloves in olive oil and the spread onto the baking sheet.
- Roast in the oven for 25-45 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool. As it cools, the skin of the clove becomes brittle, which will make it easy to remove.
- Using both hands, grab a clove and give it a gentle twisting motion. This will remove the skin of the clove. Some will be more difficult than others.
- Set aside into a bowl for use.
- Enjoy.
**TIP**: we did not add any salt because the garlic can be used in recipes. If you want to eat it by itself or on bread, make sure to sprinkle some salt onto it!

Have you tried it with the bulk pre-peeled cloves? I love roasted garlic but I also love being lazy. I’d be interested if that method would end in success or burning and crying.

  • @BlackTieKitchen

As long as theyre tears of joy 😉 I personally havent tried it yet. I need to hit the big box store for some of that 'farm's yield in a bottle.' One change would definitely be to cover them - roast them in a casserole dish covered with aluminum foil to reduce moisture loss. Might benefit from lower and slower temp as well 🤔 I added it to my list!

  • @priyak87

    @priyak87

I’ve done this - I take the pre-peeled cloves, soak in OO and wrap in foil then put in the oven just as these directions instruct. It’s very easy and no hassle - if you buy the big bag at Costco and use half of it for that it’s amazing how much this yields!!

  • @BlackTieKitchen

    @BlackTieKitchen

    3 жыл бұрын

If you store it in the fridge, the oil will solidify. It should last a week or so. In my experience, adding the rosemary and having it exposed to air inside the container is what grew mold after a few weeks. But that begs the question... Why did it last that long without being consumed 😂

  • @TheBeerslammer

  • @BlackTieKitchen

  • @BlackTieKitchen

Garlic is actually really good at keeping microbes away and things infused in oil usually do decently well - but Im not a food scientist/food safety researcher. Anecdotally, I had a bottle that got lost on my counter - after months, the issue was actually the stem of the rosemary that was sticking out of the oil - it got moldy, but everything that was in the oil was a-ok 🤷‍♂️
