This worked on my 2010 s max. The speech is garbled at the very end so to save anyone having to Google it. Let the engine run for 10s, fuel will flow up through your pump into the container. Switch off engine. Disconnect pump and refit return pipe (no worries about bleeding it) - viola ! Much easier than bleeding injectors etc. I used a £10 hand operated vacuum pump from halords and it took about 15 to 20 mins to sort my car. Thank you so much 👍

Thanks for helping me change my filter. Had some grief getting the outlet hose off as the plastic tab was broken. Small flat blade screwdriver to depress and hose came off. As you pointed out correctly the inlet and outlet hoses. Once I'd replaced the filter and filled up the housing with fresh diesel, I connected my priming pump to the inlet valve and hose to bleed the air out of the outlet valve. I had to make sure the bulb priming kit was the right way round and the arrow was pointing to the filter housing. After this it was so simple, 1 minute to remove air bubbles if that. Reconnect outlet hose, pump bulb until resistance felt. Kept primer connected whilst I started car. Fired straight away first time, let idle for 30 secs, then removed priming hoses and reconnected inlet hose. Very happy!

I've replaced fuel filter on my Mondeo IV 1.8tdci, filled the filter with fuel to full, didn't bleed it instead just started up the car and drove it for few minutes. I did the same on my previous Peugeot 406 2.0HDi, no problems :-) It seems that those that already have air in fuel problems are more likely to have even more problems if they don't bleed the system. If the system is air free than you probably don't need to bleed it.

I have a problem with my 1.8tdci, error P0089 occurs when driving. When I'm at around 2000 rpm it takes away power. You have to accelerate very gently and it goes up every now and then, but not much higher. It's over until 4 gear. I can only see the error messages if I read them with a diagnostic device. I can delete it too, but as soon as I drive it comes back later. Something else when the engine is cold it runs worse than when it is warm. Like a jerk or something else. Is there still air in the system or what? The previous owner did something to the fuel filter.

Very good video mate 👍 The bleeding on 1.8tdci is a pain. My mate's car wouldn't start after full service at KwikFit. Spray from the Easy Start and car would start and run well ever since. Next time matey came to me and we filled the filter housing with diesel. Car started first time but almost cut out but my mate pressed accelerator and it was fine.. I then bought the car off of him. Been changing fuel filter annually.. used vacum primer pump from Halfords with poor results (couldn't get enough fuel come through it to bleed properly), used Easy Start with better results, this year I disconnected injector electrical plugs and cranked the engine to push air through.. it worked well. Each time I fill filter housing with fresh diesel or Redex diesel system cleaner. Next year I might just do it properly as you've shown here but boy what a lot of hassle just to change fuel filter. I also don't disconnect the hoses anymore, just unscrew the top and remove the bottom housing as I had to use cable tie to secure that connection with a broken white clip.. they notorious for breaking! 🤦‍♂️ I miss replacing fuel filter in my 2009 2.2 diesel Mazda.. canister type, primer putton on top, always started straight away after fuel filter change.

Hi, I have a 2007 ford focus estate 1.8 tdci and I'm really at a loss with it. If you can provide me with a solution I will pay you for any advice if you know a fix for my issue. There seems to be excess pressure in the return line from the pump which is connected to the injector leak off pipes, the high pressure is causing the leak off pipes to blow off the injectors which in turn is spraying the injectors and surrounding area with diesel. The car runs and starts fine but there is excess smoke coming out of the exhaust (black smoke). I have replaced the fuel pressure regulator that screws into the pump (next to the return line from the pump) and I have also replaced the fuel rail pressure sensor and since doing that the car wont reach high revs. If you have any idea what it could be it would be very much appreciated. Thanks 👍

  • @Chris_CDB

Hi there, unfortunately it would be a minefield to try and diagnose an issue like that without seeing the car and running some tests, … however it may be worth checking the return line for blockage, or you possibly have an injector that is leaking by quite seriously and putting high pressure into the return line…. Have the spill off pipes been removed from the injectors for anything as I know that once they have been out they can be an absolute ass to get the clips to secure them back in.

Hello, p0087 is a code for low fuel rail pressure, which would suggest that either you have a bad fuel pump/faulty injector, air in the system, there are a good few issues it could potentially have. It would need ideally looking at from the pump 1st, making sure there is rail pressure there with a mechanical gauge, however not a lot of places will have such tools as they are expensive and not a lot of places like working on the diesel common rail systems.

Other way of doing it is get a second hand fuel pipe with the same fitting on and attatch a bit of pipe to it, then slot a bolt inside the pipe and jubilee clip it up so it seals it up, or put some hot glue or something like chemical metal inside the end so it seals it up mate.
