    Your video reminded me of the DOT that stopped me on the M4 I was driving an old ford transit recovery flat bed that I had fitted a 3L v6 to do this I had to use the diesel front. The DOT stopped me and asked if they could check my fuel I agreed and they sucked fuel from the tank but because it was petrol in a diesel testing kit it melted their test equipment. They asked to test my fuel but they did not ask to check my diesel. Spoilt their day good news.

    Thanks for this vid it gives me hope for future repairs. I hate messing with diesel lines because I know it's going to be a sod to start afterwards, I have a vauxhall with 1.7cdti the thing operates on a suction style set up no uplift pump in the tank, had an injector go so replaced it programmed it in with tech 2 but no go, never again until I can find a way to make them start quicker, it was a complete nightmare to get going tried everything even easy start to try and force it to bleed, engine ran fine on easy start but soon as you stopped the engine shut down, after much cranking it did eventually go but feck me! getting worried was a understatement! I have a Mazda 2.2 D with leaking injector seals, but luckily there is a primer bulb on the fuel filter so fingers crossed I wont have any issues.

    For cars withour an uplift pump just take a rag and pressurize your tank via the fuel fill hole. It will push fuel all the way up your inj pump and help bleeding by a lot

    tecnaman, yeah that's exactly what I did with my 2009 Focus TDCI when I changed the filter. Actually used an old 2 litre coke bottle with the base cut off, suspended it a few feet above the engine bay to give a good 'head' ( that's what she said ) and cranked for not long at all before it fired up beautifully. Sometimes the crap you have lying around will do the trick ;-)

    OMG!! Could have used one of these a month or so ago after servicing an SMax. Two flat batteries, flat jump pack, hot jump leads later we had to give her a bit of puff (brake cleaner) in the intake to get it bled. Interesting! We have a 2011 Polo 1.2 TDI which has the CFWA Common Rail engine which apparently needs both the lift pump on the tank and the pressure pump on the engine activated by the likes of VCDS to prime the fuel system after a filter change. Does this product cater for diesel common rail engine fuel systems?

    The car used on in the video was coming round it all depends on the car all that system doors on your car is to fill the diesel filter housing this will still fill the diesel filter housing so as long as you can fill the housing it will work on any car so depending on the car you might need to fill the syringe separately full of diesel and just squirt it straight into the diesel filter housing rather than trying to suck it from the tank all depends on the car

    I like the idea and the giant sucker thing too :) Ok I have to start up my 2 cylinder kubota diesel engine that is in storage - a common rail and everytime it takes quite a bit of cranking to get the fuel pump to fill the injector tubes as I open the bleeder tap on it. On the return side could I use a suction and pull the fuel up to the rail as well from the last downstream return connection . Never thought about it till now - hey Leon this might be a vid of yours I could use. LOL

    Long time no post. I must thank you for your advice regarding a 2005 VW Passat with drivers door intermittently not unlocking with remote, electrical between door and car living did the trick. So a much more general question this time around. Can you recommend a specific model car as being low running costs, good mpg, reliable and doesn't cost an arm and a testicle when things do happen to go wrong? And is there a mileage where you say it is too much, or don't bother? A lot of questions, and every mechanic will have their own opinion, but seeing as you are in the public eye, you might give a true and honest opinion! Cheers big ears!

    Aidan Conlon hi that is a really difficult question because it depends on lots of things budget taste what type of car you actually prefer what type of car you need depends on your journey do you do long journeys do you do short journeys but Ford are one of the cheapest cars to repair on the road lots of them easy to get parts for if you don't do long journeys just stay with the petrol as diesels can have a lot more problems and more expensive to fix especially the newer ones

    Hi mate there is loads of ways of bleeding your system the first one is I show it in the video with the tool this is really good especially if you want your own if not you can open up each of the injectors and start the engine and wait for the bubbles to stop this can be very difficult and can cause problems and can wear down your battery that's why I showed in this video this tool which is so much simpler and easier to use

    How would I use this to remove unleaded petrol I put in my tank by accident, would I attach it to the pipe coming from the fuel tank suck all the contaminated petrol and diesel oil out then put fresh diesel in the tank then attach a syringe to the return back to tank pipe the one with a smaller diameter on the fuel filter so then I will be sucking fuel good diesel from the tank through the fuel filter checking the old contaminated fluid out and sucking all the fluids in The fuel rail your advice on this would be gratefully accepted

    Hi mate you always always need to fill the filter whether you do it before or after you fit it doesn't really matter but the filter has to be filled then you can open the injectors and turn the engine until the fuel comes out of the injectors these engines can be an absolute nightmare to bleed you might have to fill the fuel filter a few times open each injector a time once they are stops and the fluid comes out clothes that injector and try the next one

    Good but how do you bleed the injectors and rail when you install all new?

  • @bodgitandleggitgarage

    @bodgitandleggitgarage

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hi mate you don't really need to bleed the injectors as such what happens is as long as your diesel filter is full the injectors are pre-filled and the pump will draw the diesel from the filter but what you can do if you want is you can loosen the the feeder pipe going into the injectors which will get the air out but that is a long and messy process once the filter is full it would draw into the injectors and all the air bubbles will come out the return of the injectors

    How much is the syringe?

  • @RIPPERTON
    @RIPPERTON5 жыл бұрын

    You didnt need to prefill the syringe. Just put the new filter in, connect the line from tank to the new filter, Connect the syringe to the filter port that goes to the engine and pull the handle. This will pull fuel out of the tank into the filter and up into the syringe. You stop pulling when there are no more bubbles coming up into the syringe. Then disconnect the syringe and connect the line going to engine.

  • @bodgitandleggitgarage

    @bodgitandleggitgarage

    5 жыл бұрын

    Like I explained in a video you can check the state of the diesel in the syringe you put a brand new filter on you then syringe it through and you realise your diesel is contaminated you've just wasted money on a new filter I explain all this in the video why not do it this way and you 100% sure you will not damage or filter not even that you can spend thousands of pounds if you damage your injectors or your pumps because of bad diesel

    Marie Wells hi mate there's a couple things you can do sounds like you maybe have a blockage in your fuel tank the first thing I would do is disconnect the pipe from the filter to the fuel tank try and blow through it see if you can if you can go through it you know you have a blockage in your fuel tank you might have a valve in your fuel tank that is broken off the top of my head I cannot remember exactly what is in your fuel tank but that's one of the first things to do
