Just to say what an excellent video. I followed your instructions and repaired my switch. Saved having to unnecessarily replace a perfectly functional switch. Thanks.

Ha! Super. Had a super problem even getting a fitting switch so did excatly what you describe and could see those dark connectors not functioning and voila! Now it will work for ages again. New piece is like 100€ or so, and totally in vain

Glad you're back in action! I enjoy repairing a part when possible and figuring out how things were designed and function. Thanks for the feedback! It's great to hear that others can find success.
Great and easy to follow video Thank you!! I have saved it. How did you figure out it was a bad switch versus a broken wire?

An excellent question. While a broken wire was a definite possibility I just had a gut feeling that it was the switch because of the way it was behaving. I know that's not a definitive answer but the switch was the most likely culprit just because of the way it functions and the way it would wear.
Very useful video, thank you! Do you know what the model or part number is for the throttle handle?

Thank you, I hope it helps you. I don't know the part numbers, but a call to your local boat repair shop or parts desk should yield a good result. You might even find it easily online.
My switch is $75 for 704 style. I pressure washed mine and hours later it stopped working.. No dielectric grease on the contacts?

Probably the case. Let it dry out and hopefully youll.be back in service. Having gotten wet, you may have corrosion issues in the future and this video will be the repair if you want to save another $75. 👍
I had same problem on a 2000 Yamaha 150 shift handle. bought a new switch but when I tried to push it in the plastic sleeve on top of shift handle the switch was 1/8” too large and would not fit into the opening. If you know the exact part number it would help me a lot?

I do not know the part #, sorry. Any service department should be able to tell you. You .ight even find a parts diagram online for your year that will have every part's ID #.

Sounds like a short in the switch or circut somewhere.
What is the long metal piece called? I need to replace mine but can’t find the name of it

Can you give me a time marker in the video to reference the part you are asking about?
It's 5:50 am 😂 and you mentioned Clear Lake? California? Or? Anyways thanks for the video

Clear Lake California. The Bass factory! There are so many Clear Lakes, but only one that I'll drive 5 hours to get to. I hope the video helped you a little. 👍
