There's a lot of gems in this video. I like the bike pedalling analogy for momentum, and that family/friends are going to support your FIRST release way more than your later ones (I certainly found that in my own experience 😂)

By chance I saw one of your videos and almost didn't bother clicking as I've watched so many cringe marketing videos for musicians. I am so happy I decided to watch it. I have no fans and no money and I'm getting ready to release my very first single and was completely overwhelmed trying to figure out how to go about it. After 10 years as a session musician i'm releasing my own music for the first time on 3rd July and all of these tips are incredibly useful! Thanks for imparting useful, practical tips rather than "get 10,000 bot listens and ruin your statistics indefinitely"

I wish I knew this stuff when I released my first single. I’ve already released a couple of singles and “album”. I don’t wanna say I have a fan base, but I do have a very small group of people that like my music and follow me; that’s great. Great content on this channel! I've had a Soundcloud and KZread for a few years as a music hobbyist, but I've been wanting to do more with it as my content improves. Not that it's that great, but still. I seriously need to get some better graphics. This was a good kick in the ass to get going. Thanks!

Damian! I am super stoked on this video. I don't know anything about strategies or marketing but I made some mistakes as in all my years, I have never been a band leader before but now I am and my band started by releasing a single last year from our demo with a poor ad campaign just featuring about 15 to 30 seconds of music and briefly explaining the release and what we do and of course never got anything out of it. I have actually cultivated a single super fan so far and have nurtured that relationship the best I can but fast forward a year and now we are sitting on a debut full length album and a diy music video but haven't played a show since early 2020 or been active on socials and only update our website and occassionally instagram. Without momentum and activity, our drummer pitched us to a friend who worked at a radio station and then that person also said they didn't need to hear more because our music was shit to them and I felt the socials and lack of following is what influenced the opinion our music was no good but I have connected with plenty of people who are legitimately engaged and enjoy it. Do you have any solid advice for someone in this position? Can this video still apply to my own band?
