How to read a Treasury Bond Prospectus.

A prospectus is a document issued by Central Bank of Kenya during a treasury bonds auction. It gives the details of that particular auction.
You can get in on CBK website or on SMS/Email if you have activated notifications on your DhowCSD platform.
What do you need to look out for in a prospectus document as a retail investor?
What is a bond? What's a bond duration? When is value date. What is a bid?

    Hello, Good information right here in this channel. Kindly share information on the taxation bit, is the tax paid to KRA and should one file the returns at the end of the year or its filed by the Bank

    The tax is a final withholding tax. It is deducted to KRA before you receive your interest and you do not declare it anywhere.

    Thank you Angie, what will happen if the current ifb allows competitive bids from as low as 2m? Does it mean the interest will be much higher?

    No, interest will not change.

    The is quite informative. What does amortization and unencumbered mean?

    Amortisation is partial maturities...in stages. Unencumbered-without loan.

    Hi Angie, thanks for the insightful video! I have a question: I recently invested 2M in the IFB1/2023/6.5, coupon rate 17.8%. If I buy T-Bills Bi-annually with the interest I receive Bi-annually, would you advise how much interest I will have by end of 6.5yrs, please?

    Hi. Tbills rates change every week so it would be hard to tell exactly how much you can make in 6.5yrs. At the moment they are at 15.4% before tax.

    Thanks@@angieontbonds, I'm thinking of using the compound interest formular with an average rate of 14% to calculate potential interest, you think I'll be close to the true interest value?

  • @angieontbonds

    @angieontbonds

    @sethmachel5979 it would be very hard to predict where rates will be even in an years time. Since tbills are short-term, just re invest in them as the coupons come back in and go with the flow. Also, I prefer 'eating ' my coupons, then working towards new investments. We dwell too much on compounding every coin and forget to enjoy our own investments. My opinion, though...

    On secondary market you buy through a broker who will guide you on that.

    In DhowCSD under securities, quantities of bonds from previously closed auctions are shown. Are these available to individuals, at the individual's choice of yield? How can an individual access these securities? For instance if you access DhowCSD today, you will see IFB1/2021/018 has a quantity of KES 1,635,712. Is this available to individuals? Or what does this quantity mean?

    @brianmukopi5974 I am yet to fully learn on all the details on that system. However, to access secondary market, you will need to go through brokers so as to get sellers of the bonds that you want.
