Very helpful! I'll never forget the time I filled my waders walking in from fishing a rip on Cape Cod. You missed this important tip: don't panic! Very interesting to see how all of the options come in to play in what really is a very serious situation. I'm curious to see how neoprene waders would have worked out vs the others that don't float on their own.

Hope you don't mind me commenting on here, I am an angler and fishing writer/photographer in the UK. I wear breathable chest waders for most of my shore based saltwater fishing. I have done a lot of wader related testing with the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution), both in their huge testing tank with lots of safety divers around, and also out on the open coast with lifeguards in the water................ Every single thing we think we know or don't know about ending up in the water with waders on changes when you have got rougher water conditions and you end up with waves breaking over your head and face. It's horrible, and I don't care how experienced you are. I jumped into the RNLI tank when they had turned the wave machine on, and even with a bunch of safety divers on hand, the sense of panic when you can't stop the water breaking over your face and you are struggling to breathe was awful. I was never in any danger but I can still remember it. Now wear an auto-inflate lifejacket (not sure what you call them in the USA?) and everything changes for the better again. Your head is up and supported when it inflates. Easy things to wear, I will always put one on now when I am fishing in rougher conditions and wearing waders. There is no chance of getting waders or boots off in rougher conditions, not when you are panicking because you can't breathe properly, and especially not if the water is particularly cold as well. It also made me start turning to wetsuits and so on for some of my saltwater fishing when either a lifejacket doesn't suit or when I can get away without waders. Big respect for drawing attention to all this.

Awesome video Paulie! Very informative and can save someone's life. Many think wader belts are made to carry a plug bag and fishing accessories, but the real reason for a wader belt is to keep the water from seeping down to your legs in your waders in an event you fall into the water. Once the waders are full of water, you cannot kick to stay afloat to swim to safety. Always wear your wader belt folks, it just takes one small mistake, lose your footing from a wave, now an enjoyable day, turned into a nightmare. Tight Lines all!

Hey love your videos man, I have a quick question. Are the waders listed in the description rlte same ones you use for saltwater fishing?

I always wear a life jacket. People think it's stupid. I dont.

I never, EVER, wear my waders without my BELT!!!! That includes both stream and surf fishing!!! Ocean water temps right now are in the low to mid 50s which make your legs feel like stumps very quickly. I found that you can't stand still too long with water temps this low. I do a lot of night surf fishing alone so you MUST be on constant alert of your surroundings and wave action!!! The ocean can be a cold, unfeeling, nasty bitch, ready to take you down to the dark place if you don't keep your wits about you AT ALL TIMES!!!!

Dual purpose I use the same wetsuit for surfing and surfcasting , some waders are significantly more expensive than wet suits. With the suit there no rip drama had mine for 5 years it’s loaded with piss but still banging fish with it lol stay juicy #skunk life #paulina
