Recently bought a 2017 malibu 2 months ago and using a fob and push button start is so strange to me. I've been binging on malibu video's to learn what all the buttons do and all the features. me...I was the one who had the issue saved me a ton of money!! I flexed so hard when I went to pick up my fob! They told me I had to use their software...I went on KZread and VOILA!!!

This worked good for my 2017 Chevy Malibu Premier! Took like 40mins to do, wish it was a faster process!!!! I had one transmitter and 2 cut keys. Just bought a transmitter from ebay for about $35, did this process and worked like a charm. Will need to reprogram new and your old key! If not the auto theft deterrent system message will pop up.

Worked for my 2018 Chevy Malibu LT only thing is when I only did the one new key fob afterwards the service theft deterrent system message came up and the light on so it took me a little bit to go back through but this time I did both my new and old key fob and the message and light went off 👍👍

All of the buttons work on the key fob, but the dash still says remote not detected and to put key in transmitter pocket I can lock and unlock doors and even the remote start works but the car for some reason still say key not detected. Great video, procedure seems simple enough. Got a question for ya - I just bought an '18 Malibu, it came with 1 working fob. Yes you are correct, in your owners manual your will notice those are the only two options for programming procedures. However, you can use this procedure, you just need to reprogram in your working fob. If you look at the steps in the description box, or your owners manual, you will repeat steps 4-6 for each remote.

If you already have one working fob, you can use this procedure you will just need to re-program in your existing fob after your new fob, as it will be erased during the procedure. If you look at the steps in the description box, or your owners manual, you will repeat steps 4-6 for each remote additional remote after the new remote is programmed. You can just use the mechanical key from your existing fob that is already cut.

Followed the directions for a 2021 Chevy Malibu. Everything works as shown except that after programming the 1st remote, a message appears that it's ready for Remote 2. It will not allow you to reprogram the same remote, and if you don't have another remote, you will need to press the start stop button for 12 seconds again to exit the programming mode.

Funny thing is, it then asked for a 3rd remote, so the newer model cars are equipped to program more remotes. However, with this message, it did not insist on programming #3, so once I exited the program, I no longer got the message and everything works beautifully! Thanks so much!

After you put the remote in the pocket and press the stop/start button, it should happen pretty much right away

Yes, this procedure will erase any fobs previously programmed to the vehicle.

I had a 2019 Traverse that I traded for a 2017 Malibu. The Malibu had only 1 fob so we kept 1 of the Traverse key fobs hoping to reprogram it. I can get the original fob to program with this process but it doesn’t seem to work on the Traverse fob as a 2nd one. Are they compatible?

Yes, you can use the emergency key out of an old remote. The transmitter pocket may look a bit different depending on the year of your Malibu. On most years, you can find this procedure listed in your owners manual under the keys section and it shows a small picture of the transmitter pocket

These instructions are only for vehicles built for the U.S. market. Unfortunately I do not have the programming information for vehicles built for use outside of the U.S.

This is the owner of Chevy Malibu in 2019. I bought a compatible key because I lost one of the two keys. And when I set the key, Q 1> it recognizes it as number 3. Is there a way to set this key to 1 or 2? Q2> The door open close button works normally, but the trunk open/close and horn buttons are switched, is there a way to solve this?

Some vehicle only show the message for a few seconds right when the door is opened. You might try just continuing with the procedure on just go off of the time.

This whole remote should program in at the same time so there may just be an issue with that button on the fob or the trunk release itself

When performence the steps, my original keyfob was deleted from memory and the new key doesn't programmed and the process still show pendent. When i open the door with my emergency key the message appear on dasboard "add remote 1" and put new remote in transmitter pocket and press star/ stop nothing happen. Any suggestions? scanned i find this code B3031:00 and B3105:00

They original key fob will need to be reprogrammed during the procedure. If the vehicle shows ready for "remote 1" but does not respond to the remote - there may be an issue with the remote you are trying to use. I would try programming the original remote as Remote 1 to determine that.

Instead of getting a new key cut, could I use the old one but for programming the new

If you look at the steps in the description box for the video, or in your owners manual, you repeat steps 4-6 for each additional remote.

Soooo since thats a Cadillac does this actually work the same way for the malibu

it will but on a 2017 you have to program at least 2 fobs total.

I see you’re working on a Cadillac. Will this work for any vehicle?

not just any vehicle but many GM vehicles that have a push button start ignition use this same procedure

Is there any reason you can’t use this procedure if you still have one working remote and the second remote has failed?

Hi, I have a 2016 Malibu and I noticed that your video was a Cadillac... Turning the key 5times did nothing for me... I am in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada... Is this why it does not work??? Bob

It is a Cadillac in the video - the same procedure works on many different GM models. Unfortunately this procedure only works on vehicles built for the U.S. market.

Ive got a 2016 Malibu and although the five turn sequence enters programming mode, the dash won’t light up with the door opening and closing and I’m rather lost. A little help?

Are you able to see the very first message "REMOTE LEARN PENDING,PLEASE WAIT" on the dash after turning the key 5 times? Also, your Malibu has push button start, correct?

@@PYR-Auto yes, it is push start, yes, the message shows up. Then I wait ten minutes and get back in, no message. I push the start stop button and it says remote learn pending, please wait

By way of update: I pressed start/stop and it said "ready for remote 1" so I put the remote in the pocket in the center console and pushed stop/start. Then it immediately said "ready for remote 2" so I did the same procedure. Then it asked for remote 3 at which point I held down the start stop button until the dash shut off. Neither remote works.

@@aaronsmith5264 You are getting the vehicle into programming mode so I would suggest just continuing with the procedure and watch your times rather than the dash. It is supposed to say remote learn pending please wait each time until after the third 10 minute mark.

Will this work on a 2020 malibu, the key pocket is at the back of the console i believe

a 2020 Malibu is the same procedure but requires that at least 2 remotes be programmed during the procedure ( including any that already work for the vehicle and need to be reprogrammed )

@@benzobankze5522 on a 2019 Malibu the smart key will go in the center console, like the video shows, however your transmitter pocket will be at the back of the center console instead of the front. If you still can't find it, there is a diagram of the location shown in your owners manual.

What do I do if after doing this it only works when I leave the remote in the transmitter pocket?? I’ve reset the battery and tried it again and again I even went a bought a new one cause the old one wasn’t picking up completely wouldn’t even lock or unlock.

Since you already replaced the battery on the fob - there may just be an issue with fob itself. If the same this is happening with multiple remotes then there could be an issue with the vehicle.

The same thing happened to me. Car only turns on when I have the key fob in the transmitter pocket. Remote buttons don't work, can't unlock/lock or open trunk.
