Learning how to play bass from listening to reggae, as Simonon did, is _never_ a bad thing. I wish more bands today listened to reggae and drew from it.
I'm sure Paul had no theory behind him, but his playing was tight, interesting, and legendary.
I'd like to see Andy Rourke of The Smiths, underrated bass player.

Yep, huge part of their sound.
I was lucky to meet all the members of the clash in Nottingham , I’m 63 now and still play the clash every day.
It would be very nice if you made a video about Jean-Jacques Burnel ("The Stranglers"). I think he's one of the best bass players of British '77 punk and new wave.

This is by far the best analysis of Simonon's bass playing. You have to be a good musician to be able to analyze other people's music in such thorough manner. Thanks!

respectful of Simonons contribution despite his limited abilities on the instrument - An example of mixing musicians with non musicians and making it work - my experience of this on a mundane level is that 9 out of 10 cases this is not a strategy that usually bares fruit, but in the case of Clash, Sex Pistols and surprisingly Souisiox and the Banshees (most of which were non musicians at the start) It obviously did
Very Underated Paul he said in an interview that he messed up alot when playing live but he just enjoyed playing can we have Klaus Fluoride The Dead Kennedys Next Please 👌👍✌️

Simonon and Duff McKagen are why I switched to bass decades ago. When I was first learning to play I spent hours with London’s Calling and Appetite for Destruction learning every song on both LPs. Awesome video as always

@@Mrmikey0909 It's blurred because she took a fast action shot with a film camera in concert lighting. That happened when your ISO didn't go above 400. I know - I used to shoot photos of concerts in the early-mid-80s, half a decade after the London Calling shot was taken.
Paul grooves like a punk rock reggae outlaw. I love the triplet swing and swagger on London Calling.
The mastermind behind the riff that appears in every American movie when the setting is in London Edit: Geez this is just a joke about the stereotype attributed to London calling. Like don’t start a war over it

Congratulations on getting to play Paul Simonon's bass line on the Spotify series. I didn't even realize they had an audio documentary about the Clash. I'm going to give it a listen.
Wasn’t expecting to learn so much from this but some great details that will get me approaching the bass slightly differently.
How about Bruce Foxton of the Jam the Paul McCartney of punk or Glen Matlock of The Sex Pistols the Ronnie Lane of punk.

We need The Clash now more than ever. But they can never return. Have you ever done an episode on Pete Farndon?
You forgot about the fact that most parts were actually dubbed by mick Jones. That’s why it has a “chorus” when you listen to the parts in isolation.

Norman deserves his own video. As the bassist in Ian Dury and the Blockheads he was incredibly influential.
