Learning how to play bass from listening to reggae, as Simonon did, is _never_ a bad thing. I wish more bands today listened to reggae and drew from it.

respectful of Simonons contribution despite his limited abilities on the instrument - An example of mixing musicians with non musicians and making it work - my experience of this on a mundane level is that 9 out of 10 cases this is not a strategy that usually bares fruit, but in the case of Clash, Sex Pistols and surprisingly Souisiox and the Banshees (most of which were non musicians at the start) It obviously did

He said his style came from LACK of technique…he was drafted in the band for his good looks & artistic talent rather than his chops Paul said that he got into reggae as he could hear the bass on his records unlike the busier style of the likes of John Entwistle of The Who

A lot of the bass lines were never played by Paul.

Paul is a great player & yes it's him on the majority of the record's but he didn't write all of the bass lines & he didn't play all the bass lines on the record's. Just saying.
