Great little film. Paul Simonon is one of my heroes; he’s one of the reasons I play bass and the reason I play a white Fender Precision.
0:56 smashed Fender Precision bass
"Elizabeth Taylor in a filthy mood" 🤣
Awesome: 4:40 "I don't want to put Mick on the spot, but .... you know ...it was his fault ... hahaha"
This is incredibly beautiful.
A fantastic bass player to watch. Seen The Clash many times at Eric’s in Liverpool and various venues, it was always exiting to watch him play. I went to see Paul play for Good The Bad And The Queen album and he was even better than the old days. His fire flag in Rasta colours on the amp, cool as f🎶k. All the best to you Paul and thanks for the memories. ♥️
I love his pursuit of still life. Like Luis Melendez. The mundane.... Working class dimension. Kindred spirit! I envy those fortunate to meet this pure soul!
The advice I'd give to a young Paul Simonon is to take a holiday and realize that the greatness of the finest quartet ever to step onstage is the chemical mixture of those four people, and *don't mess with it*. But then I stole that advice from a wiser man with much more hindsight and foresight.

Could they have survived taking 1983 off? If they did, would they have lost momentum from their breakthrough 1982? Would they have been the same band? They gave us seven great years. There was nothing like them.

I do find what he has to say here interesting. I've seen the other 3 members all accept a degree of responsibility for the band ending, so simply saying it was "Mick's fault" seems shortsighted. I don't doubt that Mick had become very hard to work with at the time, but I feel that after 7 years of him being such a central player in the band that they absolutely owed it to him (and the band) to try to resolve any issues with him before dismissing him without as much as a discussion. I think they were all overwhelmed and burned out and needed to slow down for a bit.
I Love Paul Simonon. Growing up I had two goals: Play in a band and Marry Paul Simonon. Of course I was 16 when I made those goals in 1976.
Thank you for the excellent reminiscences. The Clash were one of the most interesting bands of their time. Simonon's painting carries a great charge of energy.
Perhaps I missed it but, I am disappointed that you guys didn't show the work he was painting even if it wasn't finished.
Just how fucking cool can a man be?

Cool Little Film. Nice Work Dig Paul. Had no idea about Him not getting along with Mick. I thought they were mates. I thought it was Joe and Mick not getting along. Love The Clash. Well they are The Clash they weren't suppose to get along with anyone. Surprised they made it 7 years. His Paintings are pretty damn good too. I dig them. I had no Idea he painted.
