“Throughout the entire portrait painting process you are making choices. Some are going to be good choices and some are going to be bad choices. That’s just the way painting is. We are ultimately aiming to have more good choices than the bad and that can only really come from practice.” I needed to hear this. Your video and teaching are excellent. I like that you kept the mixing palette so we could see how you mix the paint, it makes a lote easier to learn and capture how the paints react and interact with each other. Love your work, thanks for the video💕

You're very kind for making a video this detailed. I sometimes like the sketch too much I'm afraid to ruin it with paint but this has inspired me to actually sit and practice gouache portraits... Also I'm usually lazy because pencil sketches are way faster than setting up all the painting supplies and I'm very impatient 😅

I love getting to see you mixing on the palette, I feel like that is such a crucial element that often gets left out. It's part of the process. In art school I often wanted to make pieces from the chaotic palette leftovers more than showing the actual painting I was working on. Your work is gorgeous.

I absolutely adore this. You gave us real time mixing. From all the videos that I've seen learning to paint with gauche is that its best to learn how to mix well and see what colour combination gives the best result so that you don't just collect tubes

Just did my first portrait in gouache, and this helped me so much! Super fun, I’m going to have to paint more portraits. Thank you for making such an in depth video, I think a lot of your tips can apply to other mediums too, and I learned a lot for mixing skin tones 💖🥳

I've been learning and practicing painting with gouache for maybe a year now, by myself, just like I did with pencil portraits, and when I see someone more skilled than me doing the things I learned on my own, it really makes me proud, like "oh my god, I do it the right way." When you picked up that lilac gouache, my eyes widened with recognition! An incredible video!!

I have learned a lot about skin-colored mixing once again! Will definitely revisit this video when I'm about to do traditional painting next time.

This was extremely helpful- thanks so much for making the video. Going over warm and cool versions of the colors was something I only just learned about (even though I took classes...*sigh). I am very out of practice- but even as a colored pencil wanna-be😜 artist, this has given me a launching point to practice a lot of things I want to be better at amd never understood.
