What have you learned about your habitual posture and movement patterns through this exercise? Outsmarting your neck and shoulder pain starts with you understanding your habitual movement and posture patterns.
This is wonderful, Taro. I am sure this will surely help me. Thank you.
This one was absolutely perfect for me to add along with two other exercises I’ve learned here. I’m learning how my low back and neck compensate for a tight mid-thoracic area. Just like you noted is so common. At 61, I’m easing out the imbalances with a few minutes done throughout the day. Good reminders to take it easy, do over weeks, and months. Thanks again!

Thank you Taro! You helped me a lot to recognize, the problem is not always where the pain comes from! (But to look at it as a whole) Do you have videos, how to sit, stand and walk correctly or how it should be/ how it is in healty, normal position? What is the correct posture? I have a lot of problems with my posture, which i now know i trained falsely.

you're welcome:) Let me help you by asking you a few questions. What's the purpose of this exercise? (A: to retrain your movement patterns and nervous system) Would it make sense to retrain movement patterns on both sides? Is there reasons why you want to retrain only one side but not the other side, or why you want to retrain both sides? If you only want to do only one side, what's your reasoning for your choice? It's easy for me to share my opinions, but IMHO, it'd be far more helpful for each person to ask him/herself questions why and come up with their own reasoning why and test, as answers depend on your intention. This is a good habit to help you problem solve problems as they arise, which happens everyday in our life:) Plus, this will give you autonomy and ownership = more confidence! I help people learn how to connect with their body and learn how to sense, feel, listen to their body and movements and learn to experiment, notice, observe, make adjustments, and problem solve, and continue. I'm here for you and others as a guide! I'd rather teach you how to fish so you can feed yourself for the rest of life than give you a fish so you can feed yourself for a day:) Enjoy movement practice!
@TaroIwamoto
Жыл бұрын
I also want to remind you that it's easy to become fixated on all asymmetries, and making cause-effect associations between asymmetries and pain and other symptoms, BUT, it's normal for our bodies to be asymmetrical. It's quite abnormal for our bodies to be symmetrical. AND, asymmetries don't mean pain or problems, although they can be sometimes (imagine you stand on one leg all day long!).
@luyzqint3760

@@TaroIwamoto I have had issues on only my right side, my thoracic spine is twisted to the right, so that's the reason of my question. I'm sorry if I don't make sense, but one of repercussions of this is foggy brain. Once again, thank you ✌️
@TaroIwamoto
Жыл бұрын
@@luyzqint3760 No need to be sorry at all! I asked questions to help you think through and understand better as I ask my questions these questions all the time. Coming up with a hypothesis and tesing your hypothesis, and repeat this process is quite helpful in making sense of things. So, in case of your thoracic spine rotation, you can make an assumption that this thoracic rotation bias might be related to bias around hips and pelvis. So you turn your pelvis to left while sitting and observe how this changes your thoracic spine rotation. If it's less rotated to right, then your assumption might be correct. If no change in thoracic rotation with pelvis rotation to left, then you can assume that thoracic rotation bias is more directly related to your chest and shoulders. Then, you can start to ask more questions such as is it possibly related to your dominant hand, and how you use your arms in day to day functions such as writing, eating, typing, reaching, carring items, etc? I know I'm giving you a lot to think about, but improving functions isn't really as simple as strengthening and stretching muscles. It requires us to pay close attention to our own bodies and how we use our bodies in day to day movements and activities. We go through our day pretty much out of habits, meaning we use our bodies and mobilize ourselves the same way over and over. If we want to change how we feel in our bodies, then we need to change how we move:) That's what I practice and help others do:)

Is it not the same as cat and cow positions? Although even it is… it’s more likely that I find myself on a chair and this exercise pops into my mind (and body)
@TaroIwamoto
Жыл бұрын
yes movements of pelvis, hips and spine are the same as cat and cow movements. The point I'd like to highlight is that this movement is not strengthening or stretching exercise for muscles. These movements with my verbal guidance are to help you become aware of how sitting posture (pelvis and spine position) affects shoulders and neck and tension in the areas, thus, to retrain movement and posture patterns = retrain/reprogram the brain/nervous system! In fact, that is what I teach on my channel! Improving one's functions, health, and quality of life requires one to change how he/she uses own body and moves, which is much more than strengthening and strengthening muscles! It takes more work and more time, but it'll be worth your time and effort because nothing is more important than your health, right?

@TaroIwamoto
Жыл бұрын
Can you explain what you don't like about my new format (assuming videos with voiceover)? What do you mean by "New format More money to earn Worse As usual..."? Based on the feedback from the survey I did a month or two ago, over 70% people who answered preferred voiceover format over my other format where I demonstrate while talking. So, I've been utilizing voiceover more often now. One of the main benefits for me as a creator was that I learned to make videos much more concise and shorter, which I believe many people like. Shorter videos don't translate to more money in KZread, in fact less money than longer format videos. So I'm not using this format for more money. I'm using this format for better vieweing experience and more values for you and others. At least that's my intention. But, I'd like to hear your feedback on why you don't like this format.
