Opening a swimming pool for the summer season can be a bit of a process, but it's important to do it right to ensure that your pool is clean, safe, and ready for swimming. Here are some general steps to follow when opening your pool:
1. Remove the pool cover: If you have a winter cover, remove it and clean it thoroughly before storing it away. If you have a safety cover, remove it and clean it as well.
2. Clean the pool: Use a pool skimmer to remove any debris that has accumulated on the surface of the water. Then, use a pool brush to scrub the walls and floor of the pool. Finally, vacuum the pool to remove any remaining debris.
3. Check the water level: Make sure the water level is at the appropriate level for your pool. If it's too low, add water using a garden hose.
4. Check the pool equipment: Inspect your pool equipment, including the pump, filter, and heater, to make sure everything is in good working order. Replace any damaged or worn parts as needed.
5. Test the water: Use a pool water testing kit to check the chemical levels in your pool, including pH, alkalinity, and chlorine. Adjust the levels as needed to ensure that the water is safe and balanced.
6. Shock the pool: Add a pool shock treatment to the water to kill any bacteria or algae that may have accumulated over the winter.
7. Run the pool filter: Turn on the pool filter and let it run for at least 24 hours to circulate the water and remove any remaining debris.
These are just general steps to follow when opening a pool. The specific steps may vary depending on the type of pool you have and the equipment you use. It's always a good idea to consult the owner's manual for your pool and equipment, or to seek the advice of a professional pool service technician.

    If pool is green at all, test the PH a d drop to 7ppm.and shock. If it's cloudy, test the alkalinity and raise that up to 120 to 150. Retest PH 24hours later. Put a clarifier in also. Balancing of chemicals and filtration is key.

    Good question. I never vac a pool the first day and sometimes I'll do it the second. You don't want to make a pool your job. Less work is better. We open a pool, shock it, skin it and brush the crap out of it. Second day, We shock it if needed and brush if needed. We always put a robot cleaner in. That's not in the video. That's a great question. I would clean out all the leaves and other debris before you start the pump. Just have to check the basket more.

  • @VIPPoolsandSpas

    @VIPPoolsandSpas

    Жыл бұрын

    For the pool in the video, I only used 8 cups of granular shock over the 3 days. This opening was in Ontario, Canada in April and the water was around 35F. If the pool was opened later, it would have been worse. Close late and open early. That's the trick. There's NO "pool school" that can say the exact amount to use. Too many variables. Use 4 cups of granule shock or 20L of liquid shock to start. Add more next day if needed. It's all about filtration really. I only use granule shock because I don't have to carry a huge amount of liquid shock that takes up space in the trucks.

    How many openings at the bottom? Inground?

  • @lonniebrunet
    @lonniebrunet Жыл бұрын

    Hi there - thanks for the video, its great! I have an inground pool with the same pool cover. I followed all the steps, and after 2 days, my pool is blue-ish but very cloudy. I used 2x10L jugs of chlorine on day one, and there is still a high level of chlorine. My local pool store said vacuum to waste as much of the debris on the bottom as I can, but its hard to see. They said hold off on any floc or clarifier. Would you agree or have any other suggestions? PH and everything except calcium is good.

  • @VIPPoolsandSpas

    @VIPPoolsandSpas

    Normally if the pool is cloudy after a day or so after opening is because there's leaves and debris on the bottom of the pool. OR. No sanitation. OR filter issues. If your readings are good I would floc it, vac up after 24 hours. On waste

    @@VIPPoolsandSpas Hi again - so I went ahead and did a floc treatment, I wasn't able to get the liquid but granular floc. I followed the instructions, and when I went to vacuum to waste, I noticed a little while into vacuuming to waste that a cloud of dirt was coming through the jets? Its a sand filter and a relatively new multiport valve head (4 years I think). Any ideas? Maybe the O-ring needs replacing?

    @@lonniebrunet if it was on waste and stuff or even water is coming out of the jets then your valve spider gasket has failed. This will also cause a leak thru the backwash when on filter.

    20% or 40% Algaecide. Throw it on and brush down while its still connected to the deck pins. Release half the springs so it drops a little into the pool.

    @@brunogiovannisantinijunior4380 You only empty the pool if you skip a season. No need otherwise. The trick is: use filter socks in the skimmer if you have a DE or Cartridge filter and for a sand filter, make sure the sand is good. Also. Get out ALL debris on the bottom and top of the water. Should be nothing but algae. First day, put in 7 pounds of granule shock, brush the crap out of the pool, get all debris out and filter backwash, filter backwash. Second Day: Test water, shock pool again with 3 pounds if chlorine reading is below 3ppm. Use "FIrst aid" from natural chemistry if Chlorine is above 5 ppm and water looks cloudy. Drop PH also if above 7.8. Get it around 7.2..
