I don’t think the point of The Boys show has ever been “Superheroes bad”, they are just the consequence of a massive unchecked corporation. Even in season 1, Homelander is powerless over Stan Edgar, despite all his powers. Even in the later seasons, I think the show strikes a good balance between satirizing various topics in modern society, and showing us interesting characters in interesting scenarios. If you prefer a more black and white criticisms of superheroes, you’d be better off reading the comic.

Ah, let’s put on the One Punch defense gloves. One Punch Man is an inversion of the Shonen Jump, a traditional story trajectory in anime. Examples of normal Shonens are My Hero Academia, One Piece, etc. The main character begins with a goal of becoming the best with a never-say-die, heroic mentality. However, they are not strong enough to be the best, so the show shows the hero’s power growing through the defeat of progressively stronger opponents. One Punch Man is both a parody and an inversion. The heroes literally have tiers. The cities are identified exclusively by letters. The heroes are all kind of ridiculous, etc. And the main character has essentially infinite power. However, he lacks the mindset of a hero. He is a full inversion of a traditional Shonen Jump hero. It is naturally going to be more boring, as the whole point of the show is to examine the development of a mindset and discovery of a place in the world, not a gradual unlocking of power by fighting.

You missed the point of giving the Boys superpowers. Butcher and Hughie take the V, but Frenchie and MM don't, and that causes conflict between them. Frenchie and MM think it's hypocritical and crosses a line. They didn't add it to the show just so they could have superpower fights. They added it because it's an interesting direction to take the story.

One punch man isnt meant to be enjoyed by its narrative depth but instead by how much you vibe with the characters and the action (mostly). The Garou arc in the webcomic specifically the finale i would actually say has great writing, its one of those where the more i think about it the better it gets, unlike the manga adaptation where the entire point of opm gets thrown out of the window for no reason. Maybe the webcomic having bad art is a good thing cause it filters the casuals out and keeps only the people that actually care about narrative and character direction.

I agree, it’s not a deep show and manga but it is a fun, goofy and comedic satire of superheroes and it evolves into a world of its own. It isn’t about narrative depth, it’s about the characters, the comedy and the action. But I agree that the webcomic garou arc actually has great writing, I’m just sad they fumbled it in the manga.

I'm fine with someone saying One Punch Man has bad writing, but saying that the series author is a bad writer is just wrong. Mob Psycho 100, his other series, is one of the best anime ever made, and does the "overpowered MC" trope a lot better, while having cooler fights and incredible writing.

I find the new toys, cod skins, dlc fighters, and whatever else to be kinda funny in the sense that it almost kinda feels like a criticism of itself, with how they market the supes as gods to everyone and they can be seen anywhere in the show it feels oversaturated but in a good way, I see homelander marketed in games and it feels like something vaught would do, I see people talk about him and completely miss the point and idealize this monster and these marketing ploys definitely don't help that and.. it feels like something that'd happen in the universe of the boys this effect reminds me of how in breaking bad, Walter White is a fucking loser who can't do shit, isn't cool, and only very rarely actually does the things people thinks he can, but everyone on tik tok makes these edits of 'the heisenberg' being this badass, and it's neat because in universe everyone also views the heisenberg as this mythical figure who narrowly escapes justice, when in reality, he's not art I feel is no longer imitating reality, but reality is imitating art

I liked the show. The intent of the show was to see how all the superheroes we know deserve death in the Boys are created, while also trying to make you see that ultimately they are victims themselves who lash out over what has been done to them. The major theme "corporations are evil" is still the biggest take away, and as ever its ironic that its made and played on Amazon. Tying powers to self harm, and other mental issues that typically affect young people is a the very least more flavor than nearly all power based media have. Finally you don't only watch shows for writing and acting, the special effects and action sequences are really as ever impressive, this franchise has explored special effects and gore like no mainstream media ever has and that is something I wanna see at least.

This was a pretty funny video RS. Looking forward to your Invincible season 2 video. Been re-reading the comic recently to refresh myself on the story.

As for the boys getting powers... That happened in the comics as well... Butcher got his hands on compound V so they could actually stand on even ground with the supes.

Being Critical is hard. it's not fun when you find flaws and don't enjoy something you want to like. however, it's not done to shit on things for no reason or because we want to see things fail, but because we know they can do better and because we want content to be the best it can be. Also, to be honest, I still think the boys is good, because while it's not as much of a satire of superhero shows anymore, it still has strong character writing. I'm excited to see what happens to A train, how he's going to atone for his sins, what punishment will he face, and how will his character arc end. I'm excited to see how homelander is going to deal with having the responsibility of a son and how caring for ryan will effect his psyche.

You've probably never read the The Boys' source material. They show is actually 10 times better with how they handle the use of superpowers. Not talking about Gen V of course.

I feel like the way you look at one Punch man is missing the point. And I understand you probably understand the point but it’s still going over your head despite the fact you understand it. That’s the point it’s very predictable you know what’s going to happen at the end. The comedy comes from the fact that it does not follow traditional stakes due to it following clichés to an extreme that makes it predictable.

I generally tend to avoid the Boys spinoff shows for a reason. From the outside, it didn't really look like it was going to make a commentary on anything (which is the Boys' biggest stregnth as a show) but was just a college drama set in the The Boys unvierse with all of its edge. I'm glad I didn't waste my time.

Maybe its not for you, but I found one punch man to be hillarious, but I also like dry humor and, for me at least, having watched well over 120 different anime from episode 1 through to the final episode in the final season, one punch man was a breath of fresh air. I was hooked on episode one and enjoyed the show so much that I actually re-watched it multiple times. Which is something I don't normally do with anime. Every one like different things. I like one punch man. Also, one punch man doesn't have writers (plural) it a has a writer (one) who is not a professional artist and his webcomic is hillariously poorly drawn.

The Boys' satire is also pretty awful, especially after season 1. It gets to the point where it actually interferes with and ruins the show's plot for a quick joke

@@RSG200 my favorite part was when they show that little cricket tries to please everyone as soon as she meets them even at her own loss (1st time) , then show her puking and shrinks for a guy (2nd time), then says what I just said out loud (3rd time), rinse and repeat in the last episode (4th time), and then do the same "shout don't show" with Jordan and Andre's message. It's like the writers know their audience is dumb, and try to explain everything just to make sure they get it.

I wonder what your take would be with mob psycho, as it's written by literally the same guy as one punch man, and I would posit that it's got good writing, or maybe at least convey some interesting ideas in ways not many other shows do. To me one punch man is so great due to the amazing animation in season 1 (the only one that exists to me) and murata's art. The goofy setup only works because of the incredible execution of the fights, and the "they underestimated the main guy and the baddies got rekt lmao" junk food that.... is really REALLY tasty. Like you can bash me over the head about how bad french fries are for my health, and you'd be right, but that won't stop me from enjoying them. XD Reminds me of why I like the Gate anime so much. It's about a portal opening in japan that leads to a high fantasy medieval world. The japanese end up crossing the gate and building a modern military base in the fantasy land. And fucking carpet bombing the mediaval armies that try to challenge them. Fucking shooting down dragon's with apachis and parashooting on top of castles shooting throw the guards' armor and shields. It's a mid show at best, but I like the concept of modern military ass blasting medieval people SO much that... I just can't get enough of it. Plus the anime girls are cute. I literally can't recommend this show to anyone cause there's no chance someone could enjoy it the way I do, it's just such a specific thing that tickles my fancy. Oh, and you should watch Hunter x hunter. I'm not gonna elaborate further. Just do it.

Sometimes comes off a bit nitpicky

I felt there were flaws with the Boys itself, but it was fun and enjoyable nonetheless. With Gen V, I still found it enjoyable enough even with the parts I did not like. Unless it ends up being important to The Boys' upcoming season(s) (which, lets be honest, it probbaly will be) then I would say it is quite skippable. With One Punch Man, that guy was at least kinda right in that it is a parody. More precisely, it is essentially an inversion on the Shonen Jump sorta genre. So if one were not familiar with that, it could be easy to miss what so many people like about it.

Watch Attack on Titan, it's like Game of Thrones, the final is horrible but it's a entertainment masterpiece with awesome animation and an interesting mystery story.

I don't get the extreme criticism of One Punch Man, I liked the show while watching and didn't see anything wrong with it. I may be biased as I have watched every sitcom under the sun and am used to that style of writing; but, to criticize what is essentially a slice of life is pointless.

Goku powers up, and new villain with a new form beats him, he gets that form and gos back to "powers up" phase cause he achieved a new form. The fighting is good but at times im just... not impressed cause it feels, yet again "repeated." But i do love the message of not giving up and improving yourself in multiple aspects. God like alien entites, yet very human. No wonder people like it. Some people just need inspiration from somewhere. Just a feel good show for ones self. But fan over it if you want. Its just not everyone cup of tea. Some people just like this kinda writting some dont. Some order burgers at Mcdonalds, Some at Burger King. But For the sake of sanity and yours (speaking to the stans in the comments), dont be a stan. Holy crap. Watch psycho-pass. You'll realize well written shows can be good regardless of their genre or style or them being anime. Good writing exist in all genres even in 90% of genres you indirectly criticized across your channel.

@@rais6036 They get powers in the comics too, and those are permanent. Temp V is, well, temporary, and one can only use it 3 to 5 times before they get permanent brain damage. So it's not gonna be a thing in future episodes.

one punch man is just fun and enjoyable to watch, a hero that became too strong for anyone and he is struggling with depression bc of that strength, yes the story isn't Lord of the rings lvl but it is a change from the hero is starting on his journey, saitama has already been there.

I think that a show like that should focus more on writting because your explanation of one punch man sounds way more interesting than it actually is in the show. Not trying to argue for the sake of arguing just a thought I had.

Love your work btw you’re fucking hilarious. I personally loved the first season of OPM (second season was kinda trash as the animation took a dive.) I know you brought this up, but when you hear how much everyone loves this show, you might come into it expecting a big fuckoff subversion of expectation and never before seen ideas, but the reason why I enjoyed it at least, is it’s just fun. I get that a show not taking itself too seriously is not an excuse for bad writing, but from the offset I don’t think you are meant to massively empathise with any of the characters (can’t empathise with someone who seemingly suffers 0 meaningful conflict), and be at all invested in any of their ‘progression.’ Maybe that’s the recipe for a boring show, but the only way I can describe why people like it is that self contained fun with some cool characters and 0 stakes (pretty much a critics nightmare I’m guessing.) Feel free to tell me I’m a fucking idiot, and once again thanks for making funny ass content that manages to still be insightful.

Well I respect your opinion but I think some stuff are better if the brain is turned off like the fast and the furious franchise who understands it's cheesy as hell and just goes with it because the people behind it knows that people came to watch it for the over-the-top car races, the women and the walking slabs of meat and concrete beating the ever-loving sh*t out of each other. or doom where ignoring the clusterfunk that is the lore it's still an enjoyable game about an angry marine demolishing space demons something that straight up came out of an heavy metal album cover not saying but you can't really criticise stuff but for being goofy when it doesn't try to take itself seriously. probably has nothing to do with this video I just wanted to say this

This video has to be rage bait. Every take is wrong and terrible. The fact that you don’t understand the reason for the pacing in one punch man is already nuts. Marie and starlight are nothing alike and Marie is definitely the more nuanced character since she actually had an interesting backstory whereas starlight kinda doesn’t.
