HOW TO NOT LOSE MONEY ON CARS- FINANCIAL RISKS OF OWNING YOUR DREAM CAR

A slightly different format for today’s video, let me know if you like it!
Investing in cars is dumb. But owning something you have always wanted and protecting its value is always a good decision in my book. Last year I managed to trade my way into my unobtainable dream car, this 2010 Porsche 997.2 GT3RS, and since then their values have absolutely skyrocketed. On paper that seems great but there are actually a bunch of downsides for people who like using their cars as they are intended.
Here are my top 3 things that depreciate a collector car/ super car and my feelings on each. In between each is a mini-vlog to break up me yapping forever. Enjoy!
Follow me on the other things, I promise its not just cut downs from this episode:

    No offense Vin, but this video is better than anything Hoonigan has put out in a long time. As far as the vlog style is concerned, it's interesting to know your take on the enthusiast market imo and I know you're passionate about it too so it's not forced. It could be cool to see you discussing it with other industry people. Cool to see the local scene as well. Whatever happens on the channel, thanks for sharing!

    I hope so too. Hoonigan was special because they had corporation-sized budget but made content like a bunch of knuckleheads who love cars. We probably won’t see that happen ever again, but if the former Hoonigan and adjacent KZreadr hosts could all build a new culture of content in the same vein (but on a smaller scale) then the value given to the global car enthusiast culture will be immeasurable. I think if anyone can pull it off, it’s Vin.

There are a lot of people that look to people like you, Hert, Zach, and even Scotto for what to do on their cars. Not a lot of info out there on how to get a car, how to make the most of your money to get on track. All the hidden cost to get on a track event is a surprise to most, they think they can just show up, pay an entry fee, and let it roll... Help keep car culture alive!

    Does anyone have some insights on why hoonigan has gone to shit? Everybody is talking about that it's since they belong to wheelpros but I had the feeling it was already going down beforehand. Also why wheelpros has allegedly such a bad influence on their content? Why specifically? And why did they sell the shop? So many questions and sadly they don't seem to care enough about their original fanbase to explain it themselves..

  • @ADSImagens

    @ADSImagens

    5 ай бұрын

    Basically you're right. They were sold to Wheel Pros and after that things've changed. You have to understand that before that it was Ken and Brian that defined the kind of crazy content that we know for years. So now that they sold the company they have to follow rules put by the buyers that don't want the "Hoonigan" kind of content. Is more "arbitruary" and "responsable". And for the worst they started to doing the worst brand deals with huge car companies in the "This vs. That" like that Kia EV vs. Ferrari. We don't even have the crew working on cars anymore. So the guys that were part of the series basically quit and started their own things. What Wheel Pros didn't realized is that Hoonigan is not only a brand, is the people behind the scene and in front of the camera. @@Harry_Gersack

  • @Harry_Gersack

    @Harry_Gersack

    @@ADSImagens hmm responsible is not the first thing for me that comes to mind when thinking about how the content has changed. For me it feels like the videos are lower effort and more for the broad masses and not for the real car guys anymore. I know renting an airport or building a dirt track is not the least effort you can put in a video. But I see it like that: they rent the location and then they do the races and in one day they can get content for like 10 videos or so. I think compared to the hoonage and scumbaggery we know from years ago, that this is a easy way for them to make content. And from a technical perspective the videos have gotten really shallow. Not the true car guy content anymore. Probably helps to reach more viewers.. On the other hand I've recently rewatched a view daily transmissions from the donut garage and some of them had much more views than the videos from now

    You are doing the thing already. You are a part of the automotive cultural phenomenon that was Hoonigan. You stay connected with your friends from there, you buy cars because of your passion, you have your own unique perspective, and you're used to talking to camera. My deepest hope is that the lot of you guys all figure out that your contributions to that entity are valuable on their own as well and deserve their own deep dives. The "Oh, that's just Vin being Vin" or "Scotto being Scotto" brush offs to keep to the Hoonigan format doesn't apply anymore. You've got the content built in, and people will either stay because they enjoy it or not. Stop caring about what you think people want and just do you. And bring a camera. The rest will sort itself out. The happiest content creators are the most genuine ones. Hell, we saw Suppy smile today.

    You are in a unique position compared to other KZreadrs and that is, your viewers are invested in you as a person. Your time on Hoonigan gave us all a chance to get to know you and feel as if you're a "friend" so to be honest, most of us are just curious what you're doing on a day-to-day. KZread viewers are a voyeuristic bunch and we enjoy living vicariously thru the lives of people we relate to, & the same is especially true for car guys. We can't afford all the cars we really want so we enjoy watching others do it. Unfortunately for you that means you should just be a vlogger. Show us what you're doing. Even if it seems boring and mundane to you, it's a distraction from our own boring lives to watch how you live yours. I'm sure I speak for a lot of your fans when I say, we're just curious how you make a living playing with cars since that's all any of us really want to do ourselves. The other thing I'll say is, take advantage of your relationships with the OG Hoonigan crew and introduce us to your other car guy personalities. There are 2 keys to a successful KZread channel; being good at what you do (I think that counts you out as a car builder ;-) sorry) and being an entertaining personality (that's your bread and butter). Jimmy Oakes channel does well because he's pretty good at both but where he really shines is his crew of friends that all seem to be having a good time playing with cars. Show us you and your friends having a good time playing with cars. We'll watch that, promise.

I think that would be cool seeing you go through cars for sell online and what you think of them and which ones you would buy to flip. Keep up the great work man!

    Happy to watch you drop any type of knowledge I think you've done things a lot of people aspire to do, whether that's flipping cars up to your dream car, your job at Hoonigan or simply just owning tastefully modded cars. I think casual / honest conversations about any of this is great content

    I love this Vin, the transparency you give to explain why, or why not you do things is so important now, as so many people and channels only show the 'cool', 'interesting' or 'amazing' parts of owning or having incredible cars and lifestyle. It's nice to know just because you have all these things it does not make your decisions easier. Keep these videos coming through! Im enjoying them alot as well as others!! ❤

Hope you continue, you totally should do the builds/repairs to your collection, more buying advice, track days are hard to capture, you should invite out others to do track days with you, if it drifting or racing its always more fun with friends! You hit it right on the nail. I just landed on your channel today and I went through all FIVE of your new vlogs in one setting. Never heard about you before but I do know about Hoonigan because of Ken Block so I watched. And to be honest, your vids are really great. Your mix of content between car projects and sharing personal knowledge of car related info really drew me into this channel. Keep it going. I think you have something great brewing. I’ll keep watching and following, which is something I hardly consistently do with other channels.

    Love your honesty coming from the viewpoint of an enthusiast who's worked hard to get to their dream ride. I got mine last year (although not to the same scale - '19 rs3) and reality and stress of ownership has tainted the pleasure somewhat. The financial worry and having to think twice where it gets parked is tiresome.

    Longer format, no click bait, rad dudes and chicks, sweet cars, honest and open talk and most importantly…….dogs, these are the reasons I’m loving your channel already. I think being able to show the stuff that you find interesting that partners previously didn’t see value in is a great way to do something fresh, I see threads creep into each channel as they start to fallow the add/stat route which I completely get as it’s how you stay afloat, but I feel like there is defiantly some value in deviating from that and developing a fallowing around more wholesome content, not sure if that helps but just know we are here for you, not because of what car you have, or what you are getting next, we are here for you and enjoy seeing how you do. Much love from aus.

    You mentioned a few times, and I would love to see your perspectives on buying/flipping cars. In general I feel like I have pretty realistic expectations, I know I’m not gonna roll in money within months, but I want as much of the real, nitty gritty shit to know about the process, the things to look out for, negotiation methods; whatever you can share. Separately, enjoying the vlogs, and would love to see more about the raptor obsession too 😂

    I’ve never been afraid of high mileage, as long as there are good service records. One of my best used car purchases was maintained by a DIY mechanic that had clipboards with dates, mileage, what was done, etc, hanging in his garage for each of his 3 cars. I was very comfortable buying his C63s with 135k miles over 5 years. He did most of the maintenance himself, but every 6 months he brought it to MB to do an inspection - which was on the Carfax. I sold the car at 180k, and it was still running like a champ, and I adopted his record keeping and inspections for all my nicer cars.

And it's great to see some of the guys again (especially Kyle *KEE KEE!* , Suppy and Grim). Even the "new guys", Angelo, Trevor and co., who we didn't get to know much, all seem chill, are nice appearances. Oh and Zac, of course, was forgetting about him, 'cause he was one of the last ones to "leave". The fact that you care, and worry, about the content you put out (like you talk about @16:50) is enough for me to watch and follow you.

I wish you only the best and i hope you find the best balance of enjoyment to work ratio on your content creation.
