TRUE CRIME PLAYLIST: • True Crime Body Language
Woman Who Wrote 'How to Murder Your Husband' Essay Faces Murder Trial in Husband's Death. In this video, Nancy Brophy is on trial for murder in the 2018 death of her culinary instructor husband, Dan Brophy. Authorities said they discovered that Brophy purchased a 9mm pistol at a Portland gun show before her husband's death. She then allegedly switched out the gun's barrel with a Glock slide and barrel she had purchased on eBay - "thus being able to present a new, fully intact firearm to police that would not be a match to the shell casings that she left at the crime scene," prosecutors said in previous motions.

Chase, I noticed her illustrators stopping when the 2 barrels are compared and she is being asked about why she bought the additional sliding barrel. If I remember the backstory, he was the sole breadwinner and that was a part of their household income. "I wasn't finished shopping." YES PLEASE!
Her lawyers were something else, the way they giggled every time she said something ridiculous and self serving. I had to go back and watch the trial from different camera angles to see how her team reacted to her abysmal performance on the stand and I was shocked. You would think they'd want their client to beat the case, but I guess they figured "ehh, who cares, she's going to prison no matter what we do, so we might as well go out with a bang." I've always been terrible at it, but didn't know I was on the spectrum until fairly recently. These videos are SOOOO helpful for learning what various facial expressions and tone indicate, learning to pick up on the discomfort or dishonesty of others, etc. It's actually created a vast improvement to my life, and I would love to see those back again. Great point!
I am very happy you guys have finished with the royals. TBH, imo, it was beneath your expertise. I was getting Jerry Springer flashbacks. Wouldn't have been surprised if one of you didn't burst out yelling, "I'm not the father!"
I think maybe, when a life insurance is taken out on someone, maybe insurance companies need to make sure the life insured is knowing that their life is at risk.
The very fact she went on the stand says to me that she thinks she is smarter than anyone else in the room. All narcissists think this and get on the stand and ruin their defense. It’s better to sit and be quiet but they can’t be quiet.

Scott!! You are so right!! I was thinking exactly the same thing. If you don't have gun safety education you shouldn't be so much as touching a gun. "Playing"with a gun is exactly why there are accidents. Love that you brought that up. I would never even think..I'm gonna "play"with my gun...great vid guys ✌
Love Greg's comment about people checking your Google history. I heard that there was a movie made about this case and joked with my husband that I started typing "how to murder your husband" into Google and added "film" at the end of it at the last minute so that it didn't look too suspicious. He's now sleeping with one eye open 🤣

With my Google searches for spelling and exact definitions alone would send an investigator into a coma. Then comes my true crime and current event interests they would have fun.
Thank you for moving on from the H&M….they are a train wreck.

Thank you for the break from the Harkles. This case is so much more interesting.
I love the references to Doris Roberts (Marie Barone) lol! I saw her and my first thought was "Marie!" 'You finally did it" "You killed Frank" lol

You have no idea how often “I wasn’t done shopping” is the appropriate response! I can’t quit saying it!!!!😂😂😂
An author who wrote about killing her husband but forgot to write the part of how to get away with it probably because she had no clue on how to get away with it, and this interview is the perfect example of that! 😂🤷🏻♀️
Love your show! Have you guys ever analyzed the body language of someone who was wrongly convicted and later exonerated?

Close - the 4 analyzed a man whose wife was missing at the time, and she was soon after found dead. He was the obvious potential suspect, being the partner of the missing woman, but it was determined later that he had nothing to do with it. I don’t remember the case or their names - they may have been out of the UK or Australia, and the video was older (lesser quality). Nevertheless, I remember thinking that wow, this guy is the best liar I had ever seen … as I presumed he must be guilty. But the truth was that he had merely been honest, innocent, scared and stressed.
For luck, she's wearing J-Lo's dress as a scarf.

When the camera pans out, it almost looks like she's not wearing a shirt, just a scarf with a dark jacket. 😖 😮 😆

love how Scott keeps the f-ups in the video!
Hey all, as a writer it's one thing to come up with a creative outline and make parts and details fit to your story's agenda. She's good at the manipulation of the big story, but like y' all said, she's unable to keep it all straight without the benefit of on the spot editing skill set. She can convolute things all she likes, but without the editing word program at her disposal she's lost in her storytelling. Thanks for the great video and analysis.Another good one!
I want the shopping bag with "I haven't finished shopping "
Old old english teacher here.....when she said, "I BELIEVED" I didn't kill my husband.....my whole teacher person stood up inside me and said,"You BELIEVE!?😲" Cuss Beep !🤦🏻♀️

I think she was trying to be ironic
1:46:47 this is the most telling moment to me. I think she’s being completely honest here. ‘When I decided to do this, I tend to be impulsive, and I bought it cuz I wanted it.” But “it” is not the it she was just asked about. ‘It” is the murder of her husband.

That statement was interesting to me. She strongly said that it wasn’t a pop up ad, implying that she went there intentionally. Then she jumbled words there in the middle then ended up saying that it was an impulsive purchase. So which was it? How do you intentionally go through a website to impulsively buy something you don’t need but really wanted? Huh !?!.

@@Lee-wt4wl That WAS weird. The other thing is that she bought it on ebay. I wasn't aware that was allowed. And, ebay should have a record. I need to watch her trial in full, to better understand the backstory.
Ahh the banter was everything after the "I wasn't finished shopping" line.
When she took the stand, she came off as arrogant and manipulative. Over explanations for everything. Contempt for the prosecutor. Should have never took the stand

All those stutters and combative responses about the slide and barrel…busted, lady. Couldn’t hack it as a writer, figured maybe killing would be the next best thing. Sucked at that. Now the old coot can see how good she is at dying in prison. Chances are, she’ll find her calling in the clink :)
She is so smug... it’s quite possible her lawyer DID do adequate practice with her... but she figures she’s clever enough to wing it.
Scott, so many people say if you give too much description of what happened, it’s a lie. But seriously, I’m a nightmare for doing that, my husband and family laugh at me for ‘going all around the houses, to get to my point’, and I’m not lying, it’s just the way I speak 😂. So how do you then know the difference? I think I just talk too much, but I like detail 😂😂

Just checked out the cool merch. Might I suggest an "according to me." Cracks me up every time. Thanks for the great teachings. I work front line at the criminal courts with mentally ill offenders - in Canada. Rocks my socks!
“If you were my husband, sir, I’d give you a dose of poison!” ; “If I were your husband, I’d take it!” - Winston Churchill. After hearing her speak, I’m certain the husband hired his own hit man.
