Leather is a by-product which can be handled and used to add beauty to a different items which surround us. If correctly treated adds also durability. We could say that through the years society has adopted leather as synonymous of elegance, personality and a long life article.
Craftsmen try everyday to improve their skills and apply this element into our daily life. That's why I have become a fan of leather, doing my best and trying to leather-cover everything I have in my hands or around me. As I told you in a former video: 10 % of knowledge and 90 % of motivation...everything is learnt in this world!
I Hope You Enjoy this Video!

    Cesear, Buenos Dias Amigo. Good work and happy to see your long but truly informative videos. I am a retired Vocational instructor from Tampa, Florida. I have been restoring antique brass autos and Specialty cars all of my life for my personal time rather than watching the Boob Tube. This has allowed me to generate after 40 years + of doing this type of work a huge shop in which I'll do my work. I've met LOTS of friends (people) by doing my extra work on these types of cars. One of my areas in my shop is to be an Upholstery area. I have three Singer walking foot sewing machines, black with the script in gold 'Singer". I have 34 cars in my collection now to do. From 1905 thru a 1992 911 Porsche (made from a 76 model Porsche 911 SC). A 1984, 85, and a 1979 Lamborghinis. 3 MG TD roadsters and MANY muscle cars and hot rods. So I'll be needing information on these cars when I start on the upholstering. I have done upholstering for many years now but I have never sewn any of it. Either from kits purchased or my cutting out all of the panels and then taking them to different auto shops to be sewn up. So this will be new to me. I am worried about the stretch happening during machine sewing vinyl fabric. How do I compensate for that? I have taught many of Mexicano students in my years (28) in Tampa. I lived south of Tampa and MANY farm workers I met and taught their high school aged sons and daughters. Mr G. owner Autoworld Corporation.

    I would like to give a suggestion about the sewing of 'vinyl fabric material': Before sewing procedure, check the height of feed dog, just enough to drag the material backwards...too high could cause the stretching of it. Hope it helps, Cesar

    Did you do this kind of extra stretching on the bright blue leather you covered a dashboard with? (for the blue and yellow car). Your now blue chair knob looks amazing, and the rest of your workshop looks immaculate too! I've never seen leather covered tables before, won't they get scratched, guessing it's softer for the upholstery to be on while it's being sewn? Wood wouldn't scratch leather upholstery would it? (my table is wooden), (pardon all the wood/woulds) and am planning to sand, oil and maybe even revarnish it, deepending what it looks like after oiling.

  • @Cechaflo

    @Cechaflo

    I did not use this method for the blue/yellow dashboard. I only took advantage of stretchy side of leather material. I have leather covered the sewing machine tables, because I do not use harsh materials that could scratch the surface. I have applied several coats of transparent sealer/lacquer as a protector.

  • @Handles-R-Lame

    Well the picture in his video is of isopropyl alcohol aka rubbing alcohol, so id go with that. Denatured is pretty much alcohol with a chemical added for you cant consume it.

  • @Cechaflo

    @Cechaflo

    8 жыл бұрын

    +AsANBER sAN Este líquido se usa para 'aflojar' el cuero/piel normal que se usa en calzado, ropa o asientos de carro...para vinil no. Este producto lo venden y especialmente para zapatería...la opción del video la hize considerando que no pudieran conseguir el producto. No interfiere con el pegamento...recomiendo esta técnica en pequeños objetos...para superficies grandes es mejor basarse en el estiramiento natural de la piel para hacer un trabajo.

    Good tips, but I have one question (also for the clip where you wrapped in blue leather the inferior dash board -the one under the wheel): why didn't you sand also the back of the plastic pieses to make the surface better for appliing /sticking the leather on it? I mean, you sand the surface and the side ways of it in the begining, but you also could sand the back (the other side) of the plastic piese-for better adderence of the leather. Thanks a lot. P.S.: I'm not sure how to send you here the pictures of my earlier works, can you explain me in detail? Or should I send them at your hotmail adress?

  • @Cechaflo

    Stretchy vinyl works without any softener. Stretchy vinyls stretch breadthwise. To improve the stretching of vinyl a heat air hair dryer is useful. To gain more success a 4 way stretchy vinyl would work much better.

    The softener only works out for leather material. Synthetic materials do not need it. Regular automotive vinyls stretch breadthwise. This is because of the cloth backing on the reverse side.www.albrightssupply.com/automotive-vinyls But the best for special jobs we need the material stretch much more there is the 4 way stretch vinyl: www.albrightssupply.com/sample-of-allsport-4-way-stretch-vinyl-aztec-red-smas110 Its backing cloth is elastic on different directions.
