An overview of how to use Buckleguy 3-piece DIY Leather Wet Molds to make leather valet trays yourself in 5 easy steps. No leather working experience necessary.
Steps:
1) Choose leather. Vegetable tanned leather is best. Cut leather piece about 1.5" to 2" inches wider than the mold size.
2) Soak leather in warm water for 5-10 minutes.
3) Place leather over the inner mold, and then place the outer mold on top of the leather and push down fully over leather.
4) Place clamps on edges of outer mold and wood base.
5) Let sit for 24 hours until dry.
Once the leather is dry, cut evenly around the edges and burnish and your tray is ready to go. The marine-grade plywood molds can then be used over-and-over to make more.
Wet molds are great to make a ready-to-use leather tray, bowl, dish, or catchall. You can also use wet molded leather to add structure to bags, wallets, purses, cases, card holders, and similar leather goods.

I would love if you could add a cigar wet mold. In a nice big gauge like 52+ if possible.

Suggestion. Drilling holes in the base mold with a dowel rod glued in and holes in the others to stack would hold everything tight.

I'm a total noob, but would love to see how you cut them after to get such an even line like in the product pictures. I really struggle with that part. I use a ruler, but the only part you can cut away is already curved outward.

OLD Leather Smith here, very good. Suggestion, put a few drops of liquid dish soap in the water the leather would absorb faster and the mold would be easier 2 mold. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃

Should the leather be heated to make it harder when it's dry or, will it maintain it's new shape just drying naturally?

Hi there, the leather will maintain its shape after drying naturally. Using a stiffer leather helps ensure this as well.

What weight leathers work with your molds?

It depends on the mold. Right now, we have some that can take up to 6.5oz and some that can take up to 12oz. Somewhere in the 6oz-10oz range is ideal for a single layer.
