Hey there, Jason here. Today, I want to talk about a topic that affects many of us: anxiety and worry. Recently I had a question from a friend, why do I worry and have anxiety most of the time? This is a great question. If you have any questions yourself, please write it into the comment section somewhere around this video and I’ll happily answer it in a video for you.
Now if you find yourself feeling anxious or worrying most of the time, you’re not alone. In this video, we'll explore why this happens and what you can do about it.
First, let’s start with understanding what anxiety and worry are. Anxiety is a feeling of fear, dread, or uneasiness. It can be a reaction to stress, but it might also happen without an obvious trigger. Worry, on the other hand, is when you keep thinking about problems or potential problems over and over again.
So why do we worry and feel anxious? There are several reasons.
One major reason is our brain’s natural response to stress. Our ancestors needed to be alert to danger to survive. This "fight or flight" response helped them deal with threats. Today, though, we don’t face the same threats, but our brains can still go into overdrive, making us feel anxious about modern challenges like work, relationships, or health.
Another reason is our thoughts. The way we think can influence how we feel. If we constantly think about worst-case scenarios or focus on what might go wrong, we can create a cycle of anxiety. This is often called "catastrophizing."
Biology also plays a role. Some people are more prone to anxiety due to their genetic makeup or brain chemistry. If you have a family history of anxiety or other mental health issues, you might be more likely to experience it yourself.
Now, let’s talk about what you can do to manage anxiety and worry. Here are 5 practical tips:
1. *Mindfulness and Meditation:* These practices can help you stay grounded in the present moment, reducing the tendency to worry about the future or dwell on the past.
2. *Exercise:* Physical activity can boost your mood and reduce stress. Even a short walk can make a big difference.
3. *Healthy Diet and Sleep:* Eating well and getting enough sleep are crucial for mental health. Avoid too much caffeine and sugar, which can increase anxiety.
4. *Talk to Someone:* Sometimes, just talking about your worries can help. Whether it's a friend, family member, or therapist, sharing your thoughts can provide relief and new perspectives.
5. *Challenge Negative Thoughts:* Try to recognize when you’re thinking negatively and challenge those thoughts. Ask yourself if they’re realistic and if there’s evidence to support them.
Remember, it’s okay to seek professional help if your anxiety feels overwhelming. Therapists and counsellors are trained to help you manage anxiety and develop coping strategies.
To sum it up, anxiety and worry are common, but they don’t have to control your life. By understanding why they happen and taking steps to manage them, you can find more peace and balance. Thanks for watching, and remember, you’re not alone in this. Take care of yourself, and I’ll see you in the next video.
