Here is the full pattern to string the beads: (Please note that this is simply an excerpt from the instructions you will receive when you purchase the kit)
String 40 beads of your main color each on to each of the eight strands. And braid.
Then follow the pattern below, then braid.
1 --- 5 main, 1 accent, 10 main, 1 accent, 8 main, 2 accent, 5 main, 2 accent, 3 main, 3 accent
2 --- 1 accent, 6 main, 1 accent, 10 main, 1 accent, 9 main, 2 accent, 4 main, 1 accent, 3 main, 1 accent, 1 main
3 --- 14 main, 1 accent, 6 main, 1 accent, 4 main, 1 accent, 4 main, 1 accent, 3 main, 1 accent, 1 main, 1 accent, 2 main
4 --- 10 main, 1 accent, 7 main, 1 accent, 20 main, 1 accent
5 --- 4 main, 1 accent, 7 main, 1 accent, 7 main, 1 accent, 3 main, 1 accent, 2 main, 1 accent, 1 main, 1 accent, 4 main, 2 accent, 2 main, 2 accent
6 --- 8 main, 1 accent, 22 main, 3 accent, 4 main, 2 accent
7 --- 21 main, 1 accent, 4 main, 1 accent, 3 main, 1 accent, 4 main, 2 accent, 2 main, 1 accent
8 --- 14 main, 1 accent, 16 main, 2 accent, 3 main, 1 accent, 1 main, 1 accent, 1 main
Then String 40 beads of your accent color each on to each of the eight strands. And braid.
Now for the next section you will add beads in the reverse order of each strand.
For example: on to strand 1 - 3 accent, 3 main, 2 accent, 5 main, 2 accent, 8 main, 1 accent, 10 main, 1 accent, 5 main. Then continue and reverse the pattern of each individual strand in the same manner, then braid.
Finally, string 40 beads of your main color each on to each of the eight strands. And braid.

I love this!! I already had the disc but it says something else on it, but it’s the exact same thing! I had made a bead embroidered pendant and wanted something else to hang it on, besides a chain, to make it look classier! This is absolutely what I was looking for!! I still have to buy the clasps but I have finished my first one and it came out perfect!! I had to sure regular sewing bobbins and make my own weight, to begin with but I bought the bobbins and a weight like you have yesterday at Hobby Lobby on Friday and I really love the bobbins!! Thank you so much for this tutorial, it is awesome!! :)

Okay, I have to say: you really surprised me. I've been doing kumihimo for more than a decade now, the kind where you use a wooden marudai and weighted spools and silk thread and so forth, and I initially kind of looked at the title of this with kind of a "Yeah, kumihimo? She may *think* so, but..." I still would say that what you're doing is closer to the handwoven South American patternwork, but that stitch is definitely a simple kumihimo pattern, and the work is lovely. I wouldn't want to try a 16-spool Genshi pattern with beads (I'd lose my mind, it's hard enough with just silk) but your necklaces are beautiful and worth the work. Thank you!

I don't remember how my grandmother would do it but she made beautiful things like chokers, crosses, roses, and other things. If she looks at something she could make it. She would even crochet with beads. I would do it for a bit but my grandfather would have his fishing poles and I would go fishing instead. I can make some awesome fisherman knots. But she could knit, crochet, tat, and many other things.

Hey Caroline, welcome to the channel! So we haven't tried this sort of gradated pattern as a bracelet, but what springs to mind is doing it as a wrap bracelet using slightly smaller 10/0 beads. You really want length for this pattern so the gradation can happen slowly and you get a lot of that blended look. Take a look at this video we did for another kumi kit of ours, I think if you apply the pattern to this style of bracelet it'd be lovely: beadaholique.com/products/instructions-for-making-the-beaded-kumihimo-wrap-bracelet-kit

Finding the right clasps for kumihimo projects can be difficult. Glue-in clasps like these are the only option we've found that work well. We can sell and ship our kumi necklace kits internationally, you can see a list of countries we currently ship to here: www.beadaholique.com/support-center/help-shipping If you don't see yours on the list I'd suggest emailing our customer service, it is sometimes possible for us to add countries. If we're not able to ship directly to you some of our customers use a package forwarding company such as www.viabox.com to get a US address that we can ship to.

Hello Kat, I love this beautiful long necklace project thanks! You were using S lon, is C lon ok to use? (are they the same thing, different brands?)

Yes C-Lon is fine to use, it's a different brand name for the same bonded nylon string.

Those are beautiful! Thanks for the free tutorial. I've made quite a few Kumihimo ropes but every time I use any type of bead and try to carefully cull them. I don't know where the beads are made but I absolutely hate them because there inevitably is a spot with a hidden bead or the bead is so small that the thread shows. Is there any way of fixing this, without destroyed the work I've done? What type of beads do you consider to be the best? Lately I've use Matubo beads and I love the consistency of the size of beads. The ropes always come out looking perfect. I'm so frustrated with most of the beads I had previously purchased, although not at Beadaholique, and sell them online at a bargain price. : (

We have made Kumihimo ropes with 10/0 Miyuki Delicas as well as 11/0 and 8/0 Toho Beads. If you are having thread show, it may be that you need to keep a tighter tension as you braid. I think you are right to look for beads that are consistent in size. If you are having beads get lost in the braid you can try to pop them out with a toothpick or crochet hook.

Besides technique, will this look different if you do a beaded crochet rope versus kumihimo?

I don't think you would be able to tell much of a difference. From the side by side comparisons that I have personally seen, the end results look pretty much the same. It's really a matter of which one do you prefer doing. I hope this helps!

QUESTION: Does it really matter whether you turn the disk clockwise or counter-clockwise as long as you stay consistent? Thanks!

While you can certainly braid Kumihimo clockwise or counterclockwise, when following a pattern or design, we recommend following the steps of the original designer. Thank you!

I absolutely love this necklace, normally I make different kinds of beading jewellery. I would like to make it with the beads that I already purchased from this shop. I have everything I, the disc enz I was just wondering, are all strands stung the same way as the first that you did you did in the in the tutorial? Or do really need to by the refill kid as well ? Greetings from Belgium, Sindy 😉

The strands are not all strung identically. We decided not to show the stringing of each strand because it would have made the video 50 or 60 minutes long but we've included a write-up of the pattern in the video description here on KZread. If you click "Show More" beneath the video's text and scroll to the bottom you'll see the stringing pattern.
