I used to make quite similar bracelets and necklaces 45 years ago. I crocheted them.

Being a craft-a-holic I got a Kumihimo disk and had no idea what it was....a random video showed up on my facebook and they were braiding with a cardboard disk. I was so excited I pulled out a bunch of supplies and learned that. Now I'm hooked and had no idea there were so many options!!

I just finished making the black and gold bracelet. My fingers are all full of glue but I'm hooked for sure. This was so much fun once I got the beads on the bobbins. That was the most challenging part but I found a big eye needle and that made all the difference. Thank you for this great video. I purchased quite a few refills and also a square disc kit for the flat bracelet.

I just thought of something that would help keep the strands inside the bobbins if you open up your bobbin and then put a Line of hot glue on the inside of it and let it dry then wrap the string inside the bobbin it should hold it in place. But you would literally have to open up the bobbin to unwind the thread after you get done with the whole thing instead of just pull in the bobbins off. Or you could put a piece of double-sided sticky tape in there to hold it in place.

Can I make a kumihimo braid with the cord length you used?

We suggest using at least three times your desired finished length. For example; for an 8-inch bracelet we recommend using 24 inches or more of cording.

Help! My glue won't cure! I've tried several times, let it set for a week and when I came back, the glues still tacky. Could it be the humidity?. do I need to leave the piece in a well ventilated area?

Yes, temperature and humidity will affect dry time. To speed drying, apply heat using a handheld dryer set on low. Do not hold heat directly on E6000. Surface should be clean, dry and free of dirt. For best results, lightly roughen surface before use. Apply directly to surfaces. Allow 24 hours for curing--Maximum bond strength may not be reached for up to 72 hours. Clean uncured adhesive with acetone or citrus-based solvents. Product is paintable and immediately resistant to precipitation upon application.

Hi there. Just a quick note to your problem. Make sure your hands and area are free from any oils or grease that will definitely inhibit the glue from sticking properly. I hope this helps. Take care.

Want to make a necklace using size 8. 8 beads per inch x 28 inches = 224 beads. Is it total for the necklace or per strand Thanks

That's a per strand measurement. It's a little generous too. We've got a popular kit we sell for an 30 inch long 8 warp kumi necklace using 8/0 beads. That works out to around 195 beads per strand, or 1560 beads in total.

If you are just starting, it is not "zen" specially if you are a bit on the perfectionist side. I had to restart it like 3 time because I tried to watch tv while doing this and it wasn't tight enough in some areas.

can I make it without the bobbins? I have everything already at home besides for the bobbins.

Sheina Sara Huisman sorry this is late but you might be able to if you have those foam rollers with the clip. You could roll it and clip it , in a similar fashion. Not sure if that'd work, but it's worth trying

Unfortunately, if a cord breaks, the braid must be restarted. If a bead was missed, the best thing to do is undo the braid to where the bead was missing and restart from that point.

size 11 o beads fio example means there are ll beads per inch 8 0 ,8 per inch etc so size of beads is the formula per inch of beads

No it's a not stretch bracelet design. Following the measurements in the video will give you a bracelet that measures about 7 inches around on a bracelet mandrel. The kits includes enough beads to add an additional two inches of length.

I just made one of these the video says use 33 beads I ended up putting 20 more beads on each strand but I only used 10 ( I should’ve went ahead and use all 20 or at least 15 ) . When I finished I used Aleene’s jewelry & Metal Instant Glue . My bracelet fits my wrist but it’s snug so the next one I make will be with 50 beads.

What size are the check beads?
