    As someone who studies Food Industries, I think that the reason butter becomes too greasy and loses that fluffy factor if you overwork it at the end may be because it undoes the minuscule air bubbles (pores) that formed in the butter during the beating, that give it a lighter texture, like in icecream. Also thanks for the video! As someone who studies the theory this practical knowhow is sometimes missed. Didn't know you had to rinse the butter with water at different temperatures. Thank you for sharing the knowledge. My regards and best wishes for you and your husband! :D

    Surprising how many people have no idea about buttermilk being a by product of making butter. Back in the day, a glass of cool buttermilk was considered a treat because they only had it for a few days after making butter. I was raised on a dairy and I used to think it was fun to sit on a stool at grand ma's table and turn the handle to churn butter.

    I've been making butter since last October. Couldn't make it with a hand crank churn. 2.5 hrs of cranking, still no butter. 30 minutes with a hand mixer and wisk attachment and I have butter. I let the cream sit 12 hrs, but you said several days. I'll have to try that now. Might of been my only problem.

    Nice demo, thank you. I'm looking for a dairy cow because I agree with your husband, butter from stores tastes like grease, no flavor... It's like everything else, they are removing the animal fats and replacing them with canola or soy oils, yuck! Milk/cream is the same, tasteless, so I'm hoping to find a dairy cow for a beginner, but it's difficult when you live in northern BC. Merry Christmas to you both!

    Margarine is a substitute for butter made from soybean oil and such. And it kills you nice and slowly so that you hardly notice. And then there's real salted butter like this. The best in every way and it won't kill you nearly as fast as fake butter margarine, except you actually have to work a little to get the real deal.

    I don't count how many, i just keep taking cream off until I have it all, or as much as I want to take off. You can see the cream, it's more yellow and the milk is more white.

    How many gallons of milk to make 1 lb of butter?

  • @TheNealsHomestead

    @TheNealsHomestead

    3 жыл бұрын

    The amount of milk it takes to make one pound of butter depends the cow you are getting the milk from. Some breeds produce much more cream than others. Jerseys are hi milk fat producers, Holsteins make less cream. For my cow, it takes the cream off of 3-4 gallons of milk to make one pound of butter.

    I believe that if your cow is healthy, and her environment is healthy, you don't need, or want, to pasteurize the milk. The good bacteria in milk is advantageous for us. It helps make our immune system stronger.

    Its legal to sell raw milk from your farm in Missouri. What state are you in? It seems like you've told me, but I can't remember. Even so, they can sell it as pet food. This milk is the best I've ever tasted.

    That is some really dark yellow butter. I'm assuming it's from you letting that good cream sit so long. I am envious of the people who get real cow milk. I live in Cumberland Maryland and they don't allow it in MD. That's so stupid. I live so close to WV that I wish I could somehow put the word out that I'm looking for someone with a cow so I can have a good source for good cow milk.
