Thank you. I am 84, my wife is in the nursing home with last stages of Alzheimer's disease for 8 years. I miss her biscuits and cooking. I watched your biscuits with 2 ingredients much easier. Thanks, you remind me of her. We rode the school bus sitting together at 16, married at 18 and now married 63 years. I visit her daily and tell her stories of her 6 siblings and our 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She is a true mother and homemaker and a joy to us all.

God bless you and your wife Mr Palmer. I can quite empathise with you missing her after 63 yrs together. That bond remains strong even though she is now in a nursing home, where at least shes getting the care she needs. I lost my own husband recently after 43 yrs together. He died suddenly but I console myself that he didnt suffer a long debilitating disease. I bless the years we shared together.....even through covid. Continue enjoying your lovely family. I wish you well tc 😊🌻

As a kid I used to help my mama make butter by skimming cream off the top of fresh dairy milk. We poured it into a gallon jar with lid and shook it back & forth, forever it seemed, lol! It churned and turned to butter. And it was delicious on biscuits with honey, fruit jam, jelly, preserves or molasses. Thanks for sharing and bringing back fond memories!

see, that is the stuff that we need to be doing with our kids somehow nowadays, before we end up with a lost two generations (my own and my kids ') the art of homemaker is truly amazing and loving it is the greatest job on earth but somewhere in the world it was devalued and people like my Mom who was awesome,God Bless her soul FOREVER and my Dad and my grandparents too, but they were told that it's "selfish not to work", ha! churning butter making biscuits and big real food meals while loving and healthy cleaning the home, not house but the home, seems like mighty hard work to this girl!!! I miss the days when we put LOVE INTO THINGS, it's why everyone is depressed and the world feels like you have to drive out to the elements to feel like there's a soul in all of it, but best you believe that there is!!! and Mom's, homemakers and institution of marriage that allows people to trust one another so that kids CAN STILL SEE LIFE LIVED PURPOSELY, not having to take online quizzes to see WHO you are meant to be at age 50, and counting on computers for everything is a bad trend we need to back peddle AWAY from and I mean fast to save the planet ITSELF!!!

My granny who lived near Harrogate TN made all her stuff from scratch, but she had cows for her milk. Used to have an electric butter churn, like a 3 or 4 gallon glass jar kind of thing with a motor and shaft that went down into the milk. Fresh milk, buttermilk and butter all the time. She loved that gadget, saved her so much time from the really old hand dashed churn she still had around from her younger days.

As a child I lived on a farm and we had a milk cow - so daily fresh milk.Actually, our cow was a good milk cow and my Mom would often have enough to give the neighbors. Anyway, she would put the milk fat into her kitchen aide mixer - turn it on slow , add salt and it would make butter much faster and with much less work than using a churn. My Mom & Dad loved the buttermilk, us kids not too much.

I have been making butter for years! When I taught 3 and 4 year olds in Sunday school, every Spring we would make butter by putting whipping cream in baby food jars and shaking it. Of course I carried some too, for any of them that couldn’t sit still long enough to shake the jar. Then we would spread it on saltines for a snack. They loved it! My dinner is made! Veggie beef soup is simmering on the stove. Enough for our dinner and probably enough for 3 half gallon tubs to go in the freezer. Becky

Having lived on a farm and having jersey cows we made all out own butter churning by hand so some tips we used..put you fresh churned butter in a bowl lined with cheese cloth, put bowl in the fridge until it is slightly firm, then take it out of fridge and pull the 4 edges of cloth together twist the top, until you wring out the buttermilk, then you can run the cold water over, or put back in the fridge to hard up a little more. after you have added salt if desired it is time to package. find a rectangle Tupperware or generic about the size of a lb of butter, line with plastic wrap, press you butter in the mold, and put in fridge until hard. then wrap the ends of your butter and bam you can freeze for a month or more. or you can make your own compound butter in whatever size you chose and put a little of the compound butter on your porterhouse.

With all the food shortages in the stores, we all need to learn how to provide staples like this. I'm going to make some. So myself and my daughter will learn something new. I've already tried sourdough bread. It was delicious. My hubby will love the buttermilk for pancakes.

@@ourforeverfarm f you can get the starter, get it. It will be a lot easier than to start your own and let it age enough to work well, as I found out. I've only made 1 loaf so far. The 1st one didn't rise, so now it will be pizza crust or a flat bread some day. 😄 I froze it. I made my starter, and I learned the best thing to do is to keep it in a warm place. I live in southern Nevada, and it's plenty warm, so when I made my 1st starter a couple weeks ago, it was warm and the yeast was building. Then on the 5th day the weather changed and cooled, so it stopped bubbling. Sourdough is not the kind of bread you can decide to make for dinner tonight. My husband was all excited he made clam chowder that 1st night. Well 1st dough failed, so I had to run to the store so he could have sourdough with his chowder. Well I put the glass jar with starter in the center of the oven all night with just the light on, no heat, and next day it was active again. So I made the dough. Well, because it was cooler, but not cold enough for the heater, so it took till the next day to rise to double its size. It s a long process, but well worth it. My pup Cookie even loved it. Another thing is, unfortunately, you cant eat it fresh and hot out of the oven. You have to let it cool or the inside will stay gummy. Once it cools, if you want hot bread just heat it back up and smother it in butter. I will definitely make more, but I think i will make a good batch for rolls, and freeze them.

I only use Kerry Gold Butter I believe that it's the best butter on the market. My Grandparents who had a farm that is still in the family did make really good butter because she knew what their cattle ate we never got anything from the grocery store until they passed away and then my Father raised Black Angus Cattle and he would butcher one or two every year for the family to get good meat until he passed away.

Try cultured cream butter. Once you do, you'll never make sweet cream butter again. For 2 quarts, get 3 CLEAN quart canning jars. They have to be real clean, because you are going to leave them out, for a day or 2. You also need a few ounces of cultured sour cream, or buttermilk. Has to be cultured, because you NEED that bacterium. Pour into a quart jar, about 1 pint (half full) of the cream. Pour in 4 or 5 ounces of sour cream or buttermilk. If you use sour cream, put the lid on, and shake it up for a few seconds. With buttermilk, just mix it in. Divide that mix, about equally between all 3 jars. Add the rest of the cream, to equally fill the jars. Set them on the counter, until as thick as sour cream. If you want sour cream, you now have the best you've ever had. If you want cultured butter, process like you did, but I just shake the warm sour cream, in that jar. In a few minutes, it will get REAL thick, and then it will break. You'll have a lump of butter, in a bunch of buttermilk. Yes, it "reads" long, but it is really quite quick. steve
