Hello everyone, I was actually in a situation 3 weeks ago where I was fired for what we believe to be was a wrongful termination. We could have easily sought litigation for justice, although Romans 12:14-21 kept echoing in my mind. I quickly sought wisdom and council from a few older brothers in Christ (even though our peers kept saying to sue!). After some critical thinking, analyzing the possible implications from this, taking note of the resources that are available to us, and the nature of God, we decided it was best that I kick the dust of my sandals and walk out the door. Thankfully, God has already started to bless us for decision we made. I am glad we sought wisdom and council from our brothers in Christ who are wise, instead of rushing into court. Anyways, thanks for the video Mike. I just wanted to share my experience from a couple weeks ago, and how it relates to your message. Godspeed, Jasahd Stewart

The problem with a multitude of counselors though is that you may get different answers from different people, as everyone has their own views and biases.

Well counsel me in making the decision to keep going to this Foursquare Church that I have attended for near 9 years. I have been struggling with their doctrines and practices, they are too lovy dovy and have un-biblical views on a few key issues, such as divorce and remarriage, female pastors, and even told me to stop reading my bible if "my heart is not in it" and whenever I bring any issue up to the pastor he is defensive and doesn't listen to me. The word of God is not revered it seems, and it has caused me to imagine myself calling them all reprobates and heretics, I literally imagine these things and they take me over like I'm preaching a sermon at them in my head to the point where I feel grieved and burdened. They are not active in the community, and they focus on work and school, over the bible almost. I don't know everyone well enough to say that is in their entire congregation but it has bothered me for some time now, and they even say people like me can have a spirit of "Religiosity" and I think to myself, Uhh... duh I am religious and I am dedicated to my Lord, also they mention about people can love their theology, but I think to myself and say I love God so I want to know all that he means and says so that I race according to the rules, anyhow that my surface view of the situation, so someone please give me at least some little advice. PS. they are doing this program called "33 the series", and "KYLO", for their Wends/Thurs groups. I can't stand extra biblical teachings even though they are "bible based".

I agree, it's great advice for people to contact experts. But you also mention not to accept the counsel of the ungodly. How would that work with doctors, attorneys, electricians, plumbers, mechanics, etcetera?

  • @MikeWinger

That's a good question and I think that handling situations like that takes wisdom. I think there is a difference between advice or counsel that is ungodly and a person who is ungodly. Let's suppose you have an ungodly electrician who is giving you good advice on dealing with electrical issues at home. I think you can welcome and heed this advice while just being aware when he moves into something ungodly. So he may suggest adding GFI to your kitchen (which advice you heed) but then he might mention some ungodly marriage advice or business advice as well (which you would ignore). So, to be nuanced about it, I watch out for the ungodliness of the ungodly and look to their advice only in non-spiritual matters whereas I look to the godly to give advice in any area. This is how I think about it anyhow. But, if an ungodly person came and corrected or rebuked me I would never disqualify their rebuke by virtue of them being ungodly, I would always weigh and consider it. Issues like this are a good reminder of how wisdom isn't just about hard and fast rules but about handling the variety of complex issues in life with skill.

I like most of this. The son of Ahab , was that not because of how strongly influenced he was by his mother? Myself I think it's good idea to hear both from the godly and the ungodly for a few reasons. You said to veer away from "wicked" advice, I am now assuming you just meant...don't follow that advice? I'll hear what both sides will say about a matter and then weigh the words against God's word and it's been a nasty surprise where the words of the "wicked" were more on point with Gods word than the other team. Whether a wicked or immoral person is being used by Satan and tempting me to sin using God's word is a different story and a case by case scenario !😂

How are they mutually exclusive ? Some people give bad advice. And also the bible says you do not receive because you do not ask, specifically about prayer. So praying for God to inspire people to give you the advice you need would be the wise approach.

Thanks. How can the concept of Trinity be explained to a non believer i.e Muslims because they claim 1+1+1 = 3. My answer would be The Father. The Son and the Holy Spirit are in complete unity and in existence eternally - therefore one God. I would also say that you cant compare God like you compare 3 humans. We are finite beings limited within the boundaries of time, space and matter. Our God is beyond all these boundaries, even in his willingness to love so that he took the nature of a mere man to be the perfect lamb that saves the world. Is this biblically correct? Sorry for such a long post and thank you so much.

@@MikeWinger I realise that this video is one year old and I don't know if you are still doing this series but since helping people with that kind of issues is my job here's a possible solution. After praying and making some research I've found one possible symbol for wisdom that is not related to the occult and goes well with the idea that that the wisdom comes from the word. You could use an open book with a light bulb floating on top of it. (The light bulb being a symbol of a great idea/breakthrough like in cartoons and comic strips). Hope this helps.
