How to Make a Snow Cave (Quinzee and Shelter Basics)

Ғылым және технология

This will serve as a basic guide to build a Snow Shelter. In this short I'm walking through the basics of a quinzee. I also thought I'd use this opportunity to show the other types of snow caves you can build.

Here’s a tip that makes that process even easier: a plastic sled. Fill it up on the inside, push it to the outside where someone dumps it. Lots less crawling around. Saves energy and time.

It's a video I missed awhile ago. But I feel like this has a prequel from a decade ago.

Thanks for sharing a skill set that I'll never be able to use. Still, informative and useful knowledge. Unfortunately these old bones and joints just can't handle the cold. An inquisitive mind in a broken body is a prison.

I like that you said “An inquisitive mind in a broken body is a prison.” I suffer with a chronic illness and I feel this way all the time. I watched the video because it looked interesting but, I know I will never be able to build one myself.

Not a good video. Doesn't cover safety (you should sleep with your shovel inside in case of collapse and make air holes) or how to build the entrance to maintain heat. 12 inch walls is on the thin side.

You're right on the point about safety. But that doesn't negate the other good information the video contains. Try not to be so critical.
