How to make a non-ducted RV air conditioner more efficient.
In this video, I show how I made my RV’s air conditioner more efficient. It really is pretty simple and all you need is some foam insulation board and HVAC (aluminum) tape.

    It’s unbelievable. I installed a new Dometic brisk 2 11,000 btu unit in our 1997 AC prepped lance squire 650 lite. It’s a small unit but it blows 52 degrees out of the unit at 280 CFM 1613w. I watched these great videos and pulled it off. I wanted a unit that could run on a 110 outlet. It works great. After an hour or so the camper was down to 78 degrees on a 104 degree day. 😢

    That tab is the heat shield when you put in the optional heater piece. Like 4 to 80 bucks, if you cold winter live. It helps.

    Great how to! I want to do that but and I have the same unit and cover, But I can't seem to get to the screws underneath the vents on the sides to remove the cover. , Is there a trick to that?

    Are you referring to the ones under the filters? You have to pop those off.

  • @robertharman4938
    @robertharman4938 Жыл бұрын

    This might seem like a dumb question, but how did you remove the cover? I have the same Dometic cover, but can only see how to access half the screws holding hte cover in place. The side air ducts the pull down swing out of the way of hte screws, but the ones that swing up, stay in the way of the screws regardless of angle. Do you have to flex the plastic enough to remove the remove it form the cover, or is there a process I am missing?

    Did it change the sound level at all? I can’t believe how loud our similar unit is. Loud enough we don’t run it at night.

    I didn’t hear a noticeable difference in sound level, but it did make the unit more efficient so that it ran less

    I have this same unit in my trailer.I need to do something about the noise it makes. did your modification help to quiet yours down any? Also noticed all the air flow gets forced out of the rear and very little out of the front. can you advise how might this be dealt with?

  • @JayRays1truck

    @JayRays1truck

    This did not quiet the unit down much at all. It did make it cool the room off quickly so it doesn’t have to run as much. Are you talking about a ducted unit?

  • @JayRays1truck

    @JayRays1truck

    2 жыл бұрын

    If you are talking about a ducted unit, I would start by pulling the vent covers off and inspecting the ducts to make sure they are clean and sealed around the opening on each vent. One other thing to consider is directing the airflow into the vents with either the RV Airflow system, or building your own similar system with foam boards and the Aluminum tape like I used in this video. I built my own on the main unit in my RV since it is ducted. I unfortunately did not record that process.

    @@JayRays1truck Mine is a non-ducted unit I ordered a couple sq/ft of sound deadening material sorta like DynaMat. So I hope it helps. Also will try the foam boards and foil tape similar to what you did to direct less air to the rear of unit and more to the front. Thanks for your reply!

    Where is the copper “thermostat” tucked away here?

  • @JayRays1truck

    @JayRays1truck

    On my particular unit, which is a Dometic, there is a temperature sensor at the evaporator coil. The thermostat would be on the plastic cover. It is the dial that has the red/blue lines to indicate whether you want cooler or warmer temperatures in your RV. Does this answer your question?
