    I was going to write something almost exactly the same! Discouraged in a dead end job I started watching these, it took a few months of watching these, praying for a miracle and showing up to a bunch of interviews that went nowhere. Last week I asked our local mobile sales guy if anyone in the area was looking for another tech, he asked around and I ended up accepting a job offer same day, close by and that wasn't even being advertised. Proves theres all kinds of ways to get the job but these videos help prepare you to knock it out of the park when the time comes!

    If the interviewer doesn’t have a copy of my resume already, I am done with the interview. If the interviewer isn’t prepared to interview me then the company’s excitement level or time commitment to find the right candidate is non-existent.

    This is true. The thank you note is also insane. They LOOK for that now? Looking for that gratification and borderline begging? They're already getting paid. I do however send follow up e-mails in case I haven't heard back and I already got a couple places vying for me to sign up and I need to compare

    @@BlkMac360 it's not, it the correct thing to do, its about respect and showing you know how to fit into a job, do you go to a restaurant with a date and turn up in shorts, slurping soup burping and farting, NO, you turn up and behave. SHOW respect, or dont, totally up to you, if your neck and neck with another candidate EVERY EDGE you get works

    ​@@AdrianJayeOnlineDon't tell them. Get the job instead of them. Sounds mean, but I now realised where toxic bosses come from - - toxic candidates. And as a client I wouldn't want to deal with such a person either. Ditto for the one who said "haven't they read your resume?" Probably, but would they prefer being asked about their animal alter ego?

    @@maestroadam Was not really a formal interview. Since I have already worked there, they just wanted to see what role I was more interested in so it was very relax. It was for an internship so at the last second the switched the interviewers with people that already knew who I was, and the position also changed to one I was already familiar with.

    Tip: Read the job description, rip it to pieces by synthesizing the job description and turn the description into big categories. Then use the job description as a road map for the interview by quoting back the job description language back to the future employer.

    I just had an in person interview yesterday where we did not shake hands but that was because of the pandemic. I actually started to reach out for a handshake but quickly pulled my hand back when I remembered the world that we are in.

    This is true. I got interviewed with this manager. When I reached for his hands he just said we don't shake hands now. He instead gave me a fist bump lol

    You have no idea how often I've been pushed to an interview without a job description, names and job function of the interviewers. It's unbelievable. I have declined the interviews.

    OMG, thanks yo your videos I got my dream job and I will start on Monday. The best part was about the 10 questions to prepare for me to ask the interviewer at the end of the interview. They were so impressed. I applied everything you explain here and passed all the interviews and got the job. I can’t believe all these years I was answering those basic questions so wrong !!     Have to say, sending a thank you note is just something I don't do. Companies these days 99% of the time won't bother notifying you if they've gone with another candidate, so sending a thank you note just seems like extra begging. Once again, the expectation seems to be that the company is in a superior position and you have to ingratiate yourself. For what it's worth, I've never once sent out a thank you note, and I've gotten every job I've ever interviewed for. True, I happen to interview well, but still. If my resume and soft skills don't sufficiently sell me as a candidate, I know a cute little note isn't going to get it done, so to me it's a waste.

    You know, the thing about not wearing a suit reminds me of something. I went to one of the top 3 tech schools in the US, the one in Atlanta. And a friend of mine majoring in aerospace engineering got what they called an informational interview with an old fashioned rocket company in Huntsville, Alabama. They told him to come on a casual Friday so he wouldn't need to dress up, just wear khakis and a polo, they say. When he gets there, the receptionist at the front desk wouldn't even let him in the building or call the people he'd been talking too. It was a test you see, he was told that since he wasn't wearing a suit, despite what he'd been told, he must not take it seriously enough. Security walked him to his car to make sure he left.

    Personally if this happened to me I would have a package of dog shit delivered to the reception or better still those bosses. Hell at my age and experience I would put my name on the parcel too so they know exactly who sent it. That said I'd probably deliver it personally so they couldn't use some law over what you should not get sent through the post back at me.

    for the "do research" section of this video I have yet to figure out how I can learn about what the company may be doing or trying to do without performing some kind of corporate espionage as they rarely ever share this information on their websites and what they do share is 9 times out of 10 the same boilerplate bs everyone else in the same market claims.

    I am quite surprised by the last tip. Sending a thank you seems to me to be common sense and not sending one is rude. I must have made a good impression during my recent interview, because I got the offer and negotiated my salary. I got what I asked for. I am no longer unemployed. Thank you for all your great help!

    I had a nightmare of an interview yesterday. A lot of red flags, focusing on their needs and none of mine. When I said I try to make sure our documents had enough time for quality assurance and review, they countered with "WELL WE ARE A FAST-PACED ENVIRONMENT AND WE DON'T HAVE TIME" which just makes me think they are NOT fast-paced, they are disorganized, they rush the process and don't care about quality assurance. I understand crunch time happens and we must be flexible and adaptive, but it's a BAD LOOK if as an applicant I get the feeling that 90% of what I'm going to do is putting out fires. Heck no

    I've been on a million job interviews since finishing engineering. The first half, I was flattered, the second half will get a firm scolding if they start to ask experience questions and seem suspicious of my skills and competency. This is especially true, now that I have 2 years' experience. I was laid off. 8 out of 10 people I interview with seem like complete nobodies who think they are going to evaluate me for their rocket science job.

    I was hired once because I sent a Thank you note. My boss told me that the others didn't and that he appreciated me doing it and it showed that I truly cared. Old School is always the way to go.

    We're seriously still stuck on bringing physical copies of the resume for employer's who don't have it and obviously haven't reviewed it before hand? What does that say about the preparedness of the potential employer? I stopped carrying them years ago because I never had a good employment situation come out of an interview with someone who hasn't read my resume before I'm sitting in front of them.

    From experience, once I hear my interviewer say "Well, I have everything I need here", I know I've been shoved into the "NO" pile. Ugh! When I was interviewing for more entry-level roles I always hated the "Why do you want to work here?" type of question and just wanted to bluntly answer (but refrained from doing so) "Because I like food in my fridge and a roof over my head!" :) It's a really ignorant question because for most people entry-level roles are really just a paycheck. Now that I'm interviewing for salary positions, I do have to do my research and hope the words on the website aren't just for show, and I've unfortunately discovered that for some companies those outside words don't match what goes on inside the company :(

    Man you just give them a big ol' buzzword smarm sandwich. Say something like "I find you are an innovative organization, and I just feel such a strong culture and such a dynamic and exciting place to be. Every word on your mission statement resonated with me It's just something I really want to be apart of!". Then just give them their mission statement back like a trained seal and they'll have the biggest job crush on you.

    They ask a canned questions they get canned answers. Job interviews are horrible things. They are unequalized. 80 percent of people lie in them. They tell the recruiter what they want to hear.

    Just as a data point, I've worked for a few companies that were smaller (think open-concept office where everyone is crammed into one room) and they all complained whenan interview candidates showed up too early since there was 0 privacy in the office and they might be showing up at the tail end of a different person interviewing for the same position. On hindsight, all of those companies had other major red flags and weren't great to work at 😅

    Just want to say thank you for all this incredible information you put out. Had an interview 2 weeks ago (after not having one for years) and after watching many of your videos, I was so well prepared that I crushed the interview and got offered the job! I managed to ask questions throughout, which i really believe helped (something id never done before) - they noted how interested I seemed in the position and really liked that I was keen.     Honestly, most interviews are a sham. They’re just done to give the illusion of fairness, equal opportunity, etc. They need to meet artificial quotas set by the company or by state/federal law. Most of the time they already made up their mind and hired someone’s friend or family.

    Sometimes I agree, but I've gotten many jobs on my own so obviously it doesn't happen everywhere. The worst is going through the interview process when the employer already has a candidate locked up. Sometimes though, they may find a fit for a different role in the company so sometimes it's good to still have a positive outlook.

    Sorry my last reply came off negative. Did not mean that to happen. Your videos are great and full of great advise. I did a social experiment and when someone gives me a wormy or loose handshake I would ask them why not a firm handshake? The answers they gave me had nothing to do with confidence and had everything to do with perspective. They would always answer, “I don’t like touching people” or I don’t like the way other people’s hands feel”

    dress code, usually I would agree, let me give you a real world, went for a group interview from an agency for Shaw, for there 1st line customer services, was told by the recruiter dress smart casual, no need for a suit. I really didn't believe them, un heard of, got there about 30 people of all ages myself and about 3 others were all suited and booted, women wore office smart prof wear, the rest of the 19-25 y.olds wore a comb of t shirts jeans polo shirts. it was like a cattle show, they split us into groups to do all kinds of stuff, I DID feel very outta place, but I felt good in my suit, my document folder, I was confident and I knew it. I KNEW all eyes were on us and they gave us tasks and many I was really out of my comfort zone but didnt show, spoke up, answered first. Then after an hour a guy came in an asked for 10 names (out of the 30) to follow him, my name was on the list. when I was walking out the guy said "congratulations I'm going to take you for your verbal interview now" I also noticed EVERY SINGLE suited person got chosen. HE like my resume, I came across as professional and he was also taking about a tech support role.. I also did a similar interview with Pepsi, the guy before me was smart casual, I was FULLY booted, the interviewer menation in a positive way he loved my dress and said I was very proffesional, but they would have been happy with smart casual but THANKED ME for making the effort and what ever made me feel comfortable. THAT interview the recruiter was ringing me 5 minutes after I left the parking lot.... HOW you dress shows respect for the person you are meeting, you are saying I am taking time and pride as I respect you, your postion and your time ! I NEVER have and NEVER EVER WILL dress down for any occasion. It has ALWAYS worked for me

    Regarding remembering names, especially if not given the list beforehand, is it good etiquette to distribute your job search business cards? Even if they don't have their card on them to exchange, if they apologize then you can say, "No worries. If you don't mind writing your name and email on the back of one of my extras then I would appreciate it. I want to make sure to send you a thank you email for interviewing me." Many may have their business cards handy, and then you have fewer names to remember.

    I just had an Interview and the employer made me do an Physically impossible task, and I actually managed to find a solution! He then told me that no one has ever found a solution to this seemlingly impossible task and i am the first one. It felt like a prophecy became true for him. The test was to put 2 metal balls on top of each other, and it is Impossible if you don't think outside the box.

    Do you agree? There appears to be one major exception to speaking negative about previous companies. Coming back to the traditional labor market after divorcing corporate America to run my own engineering for several years, the only way I can figure out how to convince the interviewers that I am not a flight risk, is doing something to emotionally distance myself from my commitment problems to the social order. No one seems to doubt whether or not I can do the work, but I'm batting 1 for 7 in final interviews. Are there any other ways to reassure interviewers of flight risk?

    I've been on a million job interviews since finishing engineering, more than half of the companies need to hire again a few months later. I treat interviews just as big of a joke as the people giving them. Most of these tips has nothing to do with actual job skills, competency, and character. The reason this job interview bs has become such a neurotic ritual is because businesses have literally no ability or experience in training new people. If they did, the pasture would be much greener.

    Sadly, your first impression might not even matter when you have the manager of the department you're interviewing for(who clearly thinks you're a superstar candidate) on one side of the table, and a guy in a suit prattling on about "we're trying to make the workplace more FUN" on the other side... That was a call back I knew I was never gonna get, thank God.

    Good advice generally but in my country its almost impossible to send thank you note. The hirer would not share his contact information during the interview process and if the interview is obtained through the recruiter they won't do it either as they have a few candidates prospected for the same job and they don't do things that doesn't help their own commissions.

    I once got across the finish line based on the thank-you note I sent after an interview. Turned out to be a bad fit for me, and six months later we parted ways, but still - it can be important!

    Observe and go from their. Where I am it depends. I still do handshakes if they'll do it also. If not I'll refrain or go with what they want.

    I went to interview and said I get a second interview and then the recruiter said I do no need to do a second interview due to onsite interview and then on Friday I got message that they chose someone else after interview someone else on day before

    In regard to the thank you note I don't think that's viable these days. Loads of companies do not share contact info of interviewers. Instead your best bet is to send it to recruiter, but even then I doubt they'll send it to anyone.

    I stopped trying to be accepted by companies... It's pretty much impossible and people gossip about everything. Nowadays it seems you either have to be a girl or a male celebrity to be accepted into anything...

    I'm pretty sure I lost an interview at Microsoft 15 years ago by simply wearing a suit - suits were common then and the recruiter didn't bother to tell me it was a casual environment. It was a long flight home.

    That seems like a pretty petty reason to disqualify you lol. Underdressed is one thing, but somewhat overdressed, while it may elicit a joke from the interviewer, shouldn't be a dealbreaker.

    I have been unemployed for almost a year now and not one interview was in person. Everything is over the phone and I have had a couple over Zoom. Also lots of hiring HRS people. Only spoke to the actual hiring manager twice. And whats with the videos answering 5 questions that I have to submit before speaking to anyone. Sorry but your videos are not with the times. Still watching them tho. Need all the help I can get.

    The hand sweat comment, the need for direct eye contact, the absolutism in scheduling and demanding a thank you note, is all completly disgustingly ABELIST. I hope every one of your competetors gets the wonderful amazing neurodivergent people with abnormal skills and abilities you are completely skipping over for petty reasons!     Honestly, most interviews are a sham. They’re just done to give the illusion of fairness, equal opportunity, etc. They need to meet artificial quotas set by the company or by state/federal law. Most of the time they already made up their mind and hired someone’s friend or family.
