How to Learn Bass Scales (Become a Better Bassist, Not a Robot)

Музыка

👉 My full beginner bass course: yeah.bassbuzz.com/scales
Don’t become a bass robot - learn bass scales the right way. Get past drilling shapes like a machine and start making music.

If learning bass scales is making you play like BassBot, or you think they’re just too boring to practice, you’re going about it all wrong.
But if you learn scales the right way, they actually give you a huge shortcut to making better music. In this lesson I’ll show you how to make music with any scale, including the major scale we’ll learn together.
The first mistake beginners make with bass scales is trying to learn them all at once. If you take on too many scales at once you’ll spread your focus way too thin.
But if you go one at a time and really get a scale in your ears, you’ll not only memorize the scale, but you’ll actually be able to play better bass lines, take better solos, and better understand the music you listen to.
To get you started, I’ll show you how to play the major scale, which is super super common, and foundation to a ton of the melodies and bass lines you’re familiar with.
Knowing the scale shape is just the start though. Now you need to actually make music with it. I recommend learning melodies from songs you know as a starting point, which will free you from the constraints of laying down a bass foundation so you can hear all the different notes of the scale.
But don’t just read the tab. Learning melodies and bass lines that use the scale you’re learning is only really useful if you analyze what notes you’re playing. I’ll show you how to do this when you’re learning a new melody.
Now how to get this into your bass lines? We’ll drawn on wisdom from some great bassists before us and analyze a few great bass lines that use the major scale, so we can “borrow” (read: steal) some ideas for our own lines later.
Finally we’ll put it all together and try out some bass line ideas using the major scale, without sounding like BassBot.
Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope. Subscribe here for more help defeating the evil BassBot - yeah.bassbuzz.com/subscribe

Most people are deterred from playing bass at some point, and most people don't start with a bass as their first instrument, Most people want to play a lead role, becoming a bassist makes that challenging. However, we are stepping into endgame territory for music, everything seems to be some kind of fusion these days, and bass is always there. Get creative 😎

I really appreaciate these tutorials you are making. I am obiously a bass beginner and I feel really clumsy with the instrument so I get frustrated really quickly. With these videos I am taking things slowly and actually enjoying them in the process. Thanks a lot, you're a great teacher.

Hey I'm relatively new here, but thank you so much. I've been playing bass for the last 8-10 years and your videos help me polish all the finer things and round out my overall bass playing. They're super informative, thought out, and just overall bad ass. I learn something new all the time and it keeps me inspired to continue playing.

This probably sounds really stupid but I feel like I really needed this video. I spent a really long time procrastinating learning scales higher up the fretboard and found it really difficult to memorize them or know how to use them. I also didn't like to learn riffs because I thought they were too short and I couldn't do much except play in the background of songs. I'm really grateful for this because not only can I play melodies using scales but I know have a foundation for creating my own bass lines. Thank you for making this video and sorry for the long comment
