Very pleased to see the two of you chatting. You should play some music together! I found the comments about ego interesting. The very first class I had at my very first camp at Wooten Woods was with Chuck Rainey. The very first thing he said was, “Leave your egos at the door, because that’s where all fear comes from.” And that’s absolutely true.

These are the two Bass Teachers that really jump-started my playing. Even as someone who is totally blind, I can still follow there instructions. Granted I would have a few minor tweaks from my friends here and there. But other then that, even they said I was 90% spot on with certain aspects of playing bass. But also learning to appreciate different styles of music even though I may not have liked certain types in the past. #JobWellDun

The way I found Josh was looking for a tapping riff by Billy Sheehan, he played “Don’t stop believing” solo, tapping, and I found this video of a kid playing it, and I became a fan right away. And Mark… man, we added a cover of “footloose” in our band’s playlist, and without Marks’s lessons, I don’t know how would I”d been able to pull it off. You guys rule!

The great thing about BB videos is he gets you actually playing even if it's only one or two open notes, but you're playing with a song and practising technique and rhythm and tone even at that level. The opposite of the piano teacher that told me he'd prefer people play just scales and technique for the first entire year. Screw that. I started with Bach - joy!

Great to see you two sharing your experiences. Once again, as a BassBuzz Student and TalkingBass frequent visitor my comments are THANK YOU and one I have mentioned before: Please give us a real and good guide to practice bass (from beginner to intermediate). It's something I believe the community would really appreciate. Something that tells us as simplified as possible "Start by... and add systematically... but don't forget... kind of guide. Something that keeps us away from noodelling because we don't really know how to efficiently practice. Cheers!

I have Josh's course. I never would have believed it was easy to learn music theory. His method of teaching is really awesome. A touch humor to keep things interesting and he plays along with keeping things simple "on your current" level. Never overly complicated. Been taking my time but I'm on the eight module learning my first scale and triad. On the side I'm half way through learning The Warning's song "Z" bassline. Using Josh's method it has been easy to do. Love the way Josh is always so laid back makes you feel at ease while learning and one of the few teachers who will actually answer questions when you're stuck. Great interview.

I knew from the get that I wanted to play metal bass. When I finally started to develope my own taste, not just what my parents listened to, it was the early 2000s. Korn, SoAD, Rammstein, Kittie, Mudvayne, Coal Chamber, slipknot, metallica, Flaw (especially flaw!) And noticed that aside from the genre relation, I very much was drawn to heavy, front line bass lines. And breakdowns. Starting around the same time you did, early teen years, desperate to be my own me. I've since branched into alot of other genres, just for the bass. Bluegrass, classical, Cinematic, dubstep, rap, jazz, country. There's good in all of it. But I always come back to metal.

Hi, you guys are great. Josh, I am doing the Beginners To Bad Ass (from near Malaga Spain). I'm doing it in bit size chunks, I'm going out there and playing parts that i learn so that I don't forget it. When I'm not sure I go back and repeat the Module, this is so great. I'm on Module 10 , I am taking my time so that I fully understand everything before I move on. I've been learning for 23 months(in the beginning Oct 2021 with a Spanish music teacher didn't help that I couldn't speak Spanish), loving it. I use your KZread videos more than ever now as the questions I come up against as a beginner you have done a video on it. Love your humour. I now do my lessons on the beach as it has now got cooler out here and people/tourist sit, listen and video me, this is so great, I also go to jamming session in bars using everything that you have taught me. Thank you so much for keeping me going.

I've been playing since 1998. I took a 10 year hiatus from playing bass after playing throughout high-school, and several years after with a semi professional local swing band... I got bored... and it left a huge hole in my life. I tried learning about chords from guitarists and pianists in an attempt to bring back my motivation to play, but for all their knowledge of chords, they seemed to lack the ability to explain things in a monophonic manor. Watching and learning from you guys, SBL, and Rich Brownstone has REALLY got me motivated to play again. If you want to learn to play bass, find you a bass player 😉

Two fantastic bass player/teachers. You both seem really humble about your ability and what you're capable of, a pleasant change from the egotistical clowns that constantly show off. One of the bigger problems that may occur in the future is copyright infringement, KZread and/or the music industry may prevent any use of songs at all, including just a few seconds.

I'm really a beginner but consider myself a part of the bass community. When you meet Dan Hawkins, I want to be in on it too. Listening to you brothers is an inspiration. Thankyou Mark.
