Dear music media, please pay attention to how much great content that comes out because Rick lets the artists talk, doesn’t talk over them and stays away from long winded questions. There is a reason why these artists are gravitating to Rick and his channel.

To be fair, he did already have an interview with Gregg Bissonette, who is another prolific session and touring player who has been doing it for even longer than Josh. I could listen to Gregg talk about drums, his career, and his life stories all day, too! I would say both of them are equally likeable. My very first exposure to Josh was when I went to see a NIN concert way back around 1999/2000 or so, and this then-unknown band (at least to my group of friends) opened for them called "A Perfect Circle". We were already blown away before NIN even took the stage. I can't remember how much tickets were for that show, but it would have been worth double to get the night we had. I fully understand why Trent hired this guy a few years later when NIN needed a touring drummer.

Rick does the best interviews of musicians ever. He listens, lets them talk, it's not about his personality, doesn't try to finish sentences for guests or overtalk them ever. Plus his questions are just always spot on. Perfect blend of emotional and technical insight. Just masterfully crafted.

Another brilliant interview. One of the last things Josh said gave me a huge smile: "you've been on my radar for so long now, ive wanted to be here". How cool is that

What's so wonderful about this interview is that even someone who loves music but doesn't understand 80% of what Josh and Rick are talking about just gets pulled into it, almost transfixed on the mystery and magic of what the greats are able to do. We may not "get it," but we feel it when we hear it. This is one of my favorite of all your interview's, Rick.

An hour and a half interview! Nobody else on the internet is bringing us this kind of quality insights from professional musicians. Nobody on cable ever could. Thank you Rick Beato!

My favorite career pathway Josh has been a part of has always been Paul Westerberg's solo records, followed by the Replacements reunion about a decade ago. That alone landed him as one of my favorite drummers.

"It felt like someone socked me in the stomach." brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful human.

I first became aware of Josh when he played for Sting, which is a serious gig for every drummer. But when I learned he also played on "Bring me to life" from Evanescence it totally blew my mind. The drive of the song is truly unique and he put his signature on it.

Yeah, that album ‘Fallen’ by Evanescence is one of my all-time favorites. I used to think it was Rocky Gray who recorded that drums, but to my surprise, it was Josh. Josh recorded drums on that entire album. Not just Bring Me To Life!

You have to up your game on a technical level to roll with Sting, but the craziest stuff I've ever seen Josh play was when he was with Nine Inch Nails. This dude is a freak of nature being able to keep that pace for a 2+ hour show every night on a tour. If you go to Josh's KZread channel, he still has some old videos that he uploaded when he was on tour with NIN. Definitely go check those out if you haven't already.

That’s amazing!

Josh is unequivocally one of the greatest rock drummers of all-time. He develops an innate sense of how a band wants to sound and he brings them to that place -- he just knows how to bring out the best in other players and makes every band sound great. He's also one of the nicest, most genuine people in the music industry, truly humble, and absolutely hilarious. It's been really great seeing the Foos embrace him as member in a band of characters, personalities, and cementing him as a household name in the rock world. He's been a hard-working drummer his whole life and deserves this gig so hard.

Thank you for sharing this intimate and emotional journey with us. I had been wondering how this happened, thank you for taking on this challenge Josh, I saw you in Sydney and Brisbane last year and you got a new fan! loved to see you there and we love you for it

Never seen Josh interviewed. He’s always just been a name associated with a lot of my favorite bands like NIN and APC. I remember being mesmerized by the drumming on APC’s 13TH STEP and not even knowing his name when it came out. I knew that drummer was insanely special. I also wondered what it must be like to be MJK’s drummer when his other drummer is Danny Carey. But Josh was already a bit of a superstar by then, I guess, so it must’ve been no big deal. Plus Danny’s such a sweet guy. Rick, you’re absolutely killing it. Your Danny interview a few weeks ago was one of the best musician interviews I’ve ever heard. Super impressive guest list. This interview is fantastic and I’m so glad to know who Josh is. Would love to see a drum-off between Dave and Josh.

I had basically the same experience with 13 step. Absolutely blown away by the drums but by that point I was aware it was freese because the same thing happened with the first album lol. I'd have to say Danny Carey and Josh are my favorite drummers .. it just so happens they shared a singer

Dave has always been the major spokesperson for the band so would be cool for the other guys to get the spotlight for a change!

It was Josh’s idea to “flick the switch” on that song. The dynamics leap out at the listener from that shift.

Rick, you always do the interviews that I didn't know I wanted to watch. This was so fascinating, and I honestly wasn't super aware of who Josh Freese was until this. I'm so grateful to be alive and interested at the same point in human history as you're doing this. What an amazing thing.

I met Josh when our band Arcade used to play at Disneyland. I was the bass player and Josh was really great way back then. Joshs' father hired me to work in that band.

Can't count how many vandals shows I went to as a kid growing up in the Los Angeles punk rock scene. Great to see him with the foo fighters now. Josh freese definitely payed his dues as a musician and the foo fighters saw that too.

Rick, I had never really watched any of your videos before, but thank you so much for this interview! You gave Josh his space and time to speak. I absolutely loved that. Subscribed and looking forward to more. You knocked it out of the park!

I am a die hard Foo Fighters fan. Taylor’s loss devastated me. I was lucky enough to attend the Taylor tribute concert in LA. The moment Josh played with them I knew he was the new drummer. I have seen the foos twice since and Josh is amazing, he is a foo. To see all of them onstage, doing what they love, it’s a great experience. ❤

Then, he starts rattling off guys that took a liking to him when he was a kid, Vinnie, Jim Keltner, Jeff Porcoro, Chad Wackerman, etc.. and I’m just blown away who he got to watch and learn from. Then he ends up with one of the greatest bands in rock. Well done, Josh! Very well-deserved. What a tremendous drum life!!

What a fabulous interview! So heartening to listen to someone who is a MONSTER player, with an insane amount of experience and yet is a really lovely, humble, genuine dude.

Ricks job is to basically interview the best artists in the world. Talk about a dream come true.

I was 15 years old when I saw A Perfect Circle at the Mercer Arena in Seattle. It was an incredible show but later I saw Josh walking to the bus, and I yelled “you’re the reason I play the drums!” He stopped and bowed and blew kisses and said “thank you much man!” It made my millennium. That first A Perfect Circle record really was a showcase for everyone individually and then collectively their sound was so tight and so original. Wonderful times.

I had no idea who this guy was. Yet I am a huge Vandals fan. I mean I always loved their musicianship and how unique they are but I didn't really know much about the members or his name. Realising he is the drummer behind so many of my favourite songs and parts, and discovering how good of a dude he is - dayum, what a legend. Instant fan here. So refreshing. He's definitely the man for the job.

I loved Josh Freese just by listening to his music with Perfect Circle. This is the first interview I hear with him. Now I love him even more.

I stumbled upon Beato’s page and love these conversations reminds me of spending time with my uncles and listening to music taking about all of the licks, riffs, drumming, transitions singing.. everything! Love it!

I saw this on Josh’s IG and I already knew this interview is gonna be one of the best!

This gentleman is so well spoken. Every word is well chosen and spoken. He seems a really cool dude. They chose well with him as the new drummer.

This interview was simply incredible. I have been a Josh Freese fan a long time and this was a major trip down memory lane in so many ways. And hearing his mindset on music and studio playing was super interesting and spot on for sure. Loved it!

This could’ve been a couple more hours for sure. Those first two Apc albums changed my life.

Know absolutely nothing about drum kits, but I find the discussion of drums kits fascinating

Anyone who has been in the music biz for a bit knows Josh and knows that he’s 1. A killer drummer 2. A total pro. And 3. A hilarious awesome dude.

I feel like I've been waiting for this interview my entire life. Josh is my all time favorite drummer, for me the first two APC albums are the definition of his style. He's also the reason I'm into the drumming so many years after. Hearing his stories behind the scenes of recording those cult albums gives me goosebumps. Great work Rick, as always. And as always tthe whole conversation is spot on!

Great one again, Rick. It wonderfully shines through that you care about music AND about the people. Much respect for your work.

What a great interview. Learned so much about Josh Freese. He seems so likable and relatable and laid back. Enjoyed this thoroughly!

I met and know Josh from way back when he played regularly at Disneyland. Saw him last at Westlake Audio in like 1998. He's always been a likeable and dependable guy which is a HUGE reason why he gets the calls.

This interview is FREAKING AMAZING! Thank you Rick! I got to see the Foo Fighters for the first time when they toured Australia at the end of 2023, and Josh absolutely rocked!!!

I watched Josh throw his spare sticks at Jeordie Osborne White on stage with APC in 2005. He was playing the song one handed to free up his other hand to mess with the bass player. My favorite memory from that show

Hehe. The only time I've seen him was probably 2004 with APC. I remember him swinging those sticks and his cymbals make an sound out of phase sound at least once...interesting.

I met and shot Josh when he was 12 for Simmons Drums. He was the ONLY 12 year old I knew that knew who Frank Zappa was and could play ALL Frank's music at 12. He had "IT" and still does. He's the best of the best. 🙂
