The laundry tips are very helpful for me. My mother did so well with laundry but I missed that step and have been lazy with it. This is exactly what I needed. I'm so happy that I found this video! A long time ago when I was a kid we all wanted expensive designer jeans. My friend's mom friend's mother used to soak them in a bucket and I was thinking salt and vinegar but I couldn't remember. My kids wear a lot of black clothes that fade so badly in the wash, so I wanted to try this trick and see if it works on black t-shirts :)

  • @homemakingwithdenise

    @homemakingwithdenise

    You could try the same thing with blacks. There is also Woolite for Darks and I think another detergent specifically for darks. You might also consider line drying the black shirts. The dryer can increase fading,

    So many great tips here. I wondered about the salt and vinegar bath since it's something I do with other fabrics that can easily fade. If I may, here's a note on Persil if ypu are fragrance sensitive. There is a fragrance free version. Ive found stores font xarry it very often so you may need to put in a customer request for it. Persil is a newer product and not advertised heavily like Tide and others so we need to let our stores know we want to buy it basically. Thanks for the great information Denise. I'm due for new jeans so the timing is 🥰

    @@homemakingwithdenise I retired a year ago in July. I live with my 27 yr old son who has Downs syndrome. (He's the youngest of 4 grown children) Denise, what's the best way to launder kitchen towels?

  • @homemakingwithdenise

    @homemakingwithdenise

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@inalisa9761 This is too funny. I was just thinking I had not shown how I handle this. I was preparing to work with them and up popped your question. Here's what I do. I wash my kitchen towels, my kitchen linens, separately. Let'[s start there. I switch out my kitchen towels and dish cloths every night. I will often put them in a bucket that I have specifically for that purpose. It sits on top of my washing machine. I will lay them on the washer and dryer to dry out then drop them in the bucket the next day until I get a bucket full to wash. I don't drop them in the dry bucket wet or damp because I don['t want sour odor or mildew. If I think they need a little brightening, I will fill the bucket with cold water and OxyClean white revive, Borax, or just a little laundry detergent and put them into the bucket to soak overnight. Then, I take them out of the bucket and wash as usual. I use white vinegar in the rinse cycle...no other fabric softener, and that keeps them absorbent. I hope this wasn't too much but this is what I do. Now...here's the thing...wash your kitchen linens or dish towels separately. It's just more hygienic.

    Ms Denise, Shouldn't you be concerned with the crotch smelling if you wash AFTER every 5th or 6th wearing? 🤔🤔

  • @homemakingwithdenise

    @homemakingwithdenise

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hahaha! Actually, probably not. Most people do wear their jeans five or six times before washing. If one is taking daily baths or showers, it’s usually okay. If you’re concerned, hang them in the shower area and let them air out. Now kids are a different story. They personal hygiene is not so fastidious…they are still learning so I would wash their jeans after two or three wearing. And here’s the other thing, I have never noticed a crotch odor in jeans. However, some people do have more of a problem with sweating and body oil secretions in the crotch area. These people already know who they are so they operate differently in this regard. Now…if the person is working a high energy using and sweat producing job and they are putting out lots of body oils and odor, and they know if they do, one will want to wash their jeans more frequently.
