You can tip the bike on its right side just past the balance point (then secure it with a rope etc. in that position). You don't have to drain the oil (though it is a good excuse to change it anyway); but for those without a lift it makes working on the think sooo much easier. One drawback is there are tiny openings which disappear inside the engine so plug them with rags or risk losing things in there like the half moon key for the crank (wonder how I knew that :-) luckily was able to fish it out with a magnet).

awesome video. question for you...2000-2001 suzuki lta500 quadmaster. OEM regulator started smoking, so replaced with an after market regulator...that too severely burnt up....on the second aftermarket regulator today and took temp of the reg at idle (from cold start up ) and after about 1/4 mile trip down the street. after a minute at idle the temp of the middle most fin was about 130 degrees, after the trip down the street the middle most fin was 170 degrees. I don't know what is normal, but that seems awfully hot. the ohms between the three yellow wires was Outside to outside = starts off at .6 then drops down to .4 after a bit. Outside to middle = starts off at .6 then drops down to .4 after a bit. second outside to middle = starts off at .6 then drops down to .4 after a bit. the AC volts at idle were Outside to outside = 30+ outside to middle = 30+ other outside to middle = 30+ at some unknown RPM where the throttle is half way down (don't have a tach) outside to outside = 70+ volts Outside to middle = 65V other outside to middle = 65V According to the manual those are within specs. I am afraid I'll burn up another regulator. thoughts?

Do you know if this is applies on this model before I throw money into it. I did test for spark at the spark plug and it does spark. Thanks

Thanks for putting that on here. Just had to buy one of your flywheels as my 2005 AC400 Auto lost its magnets. Don't know how Arctic Cat let this happen in the first place; then shame on them for not doing the right thing and doing a recall for it (or at the very least offering a rebate for the parts if you do it yourself). Just a note that I had a very hard time getting the side cover off; as the gasket was pretty much glued to both sides. Had to make a bracket and use a slide hammer which did the trick. The official manual says much the same thing.

So i found the magnets were loose but had not separated from the flywheel, just moved around, no damage to magnets or starter. BUT I have good sized chunks of metal on magnetic drain plug, what could this be from? When the timing went off, could it have broken a valve or something? Thanks again!

When I put it in gear and increase rpm's it misses like crazy. If I shut it off and restart it will run great for about 10 sec then start missing like crazy again. I have cleaned the carb and replaced the primer diaphram, replaced the diaphram on the high speed vaccume thing, no water in fuel. The carb is an older gravity flow. If it's the stator magnet problem why would it run great part of the time. Thanks

I would recommend fully testing the stator. The position sensor or pickup coil could cause a no spark. You could also have a problem with the CDI box or ignition coil. You can't test the CDI, but can easily test the ignition coil. Good luck!

Is having no spark usually the flywheel magnet culprit? Just wondering how to diagnose it's the flywheel. I have the 05 Suzuki Eiger and it was running then died. Fired back up but died quickly.I did have what I call a cough from the carburetor off and on for awhile now. So hopefully it's just a clogged jet, we'll see. Nice to the point video though. 👍

I have replaced the starter rotor on my 2004 Arctic Cat 400. Yes, magnets fell apart. Put the whole thing back together and forgot to put the clutch in the rotor. Used your video on freeze frame to determine which side goes toward the engine and which faces out. So, anyway, reassembled and replaced oil and filter. Now the starter just clicks. Battery drops from 12.43 to 6 volts when starter held momentarily. Starter turned fine before clutch was installed. (LOL!) Rotor turns counterclockwise -nothing clockwise. Something appears to be binding. So I am wondering about reassembly and gear alignment. I can find nothing on how gears mate together for reassembly. I am concerned about the approx. 1/3 fork assembly point down from the outside casing which I believe mates to the small gear to the top right that only has teeth on 2/3 of it roundness. In essence... got any clues? Thank you in Advance!

Remember if your flywheel moved off a little bit to pull the puller off and see if that inside thread protector is holding it on. That maybe the case of why it won't come off all of the way. You'll take off that protector which only leaves about 3/8 clearance for it to move off and it'll seem your flywheel will just fall off after that.

  • @Rmstatorinc

    @Rmstatorinc

    5 жыл бұрын

An impact gun will generally tighten flywheel nuts securely. You can use a torque wrench to verify this afterwards. You can use a large crescent wrench to hold the flywheel in place while tightening the nut with with a socket wrench or torque wrench to finalize. I believe the nut is a 19mm, but it's been awhile! Hope this helps.

Were your old flywheel magnets in good shape? If they were not in perfect condition, definitely replace the flywheel with our sealed version, as that is a known issue on these models. Also, measure the resistance of the pickup coil. It is the Blue to Green wires in the 4-pin connector. The spec is 200 ohms between the 2 wires. If it is outside of +/- 20% of that measurement, it is likely the problem. Otherwise, you most likely have a failing CDI box causing the issue. Hope this helps!

The flywheel is most common part to fail on the Suzuki Eiger / Arctic Cat 400 ATV's. However when the magnets fail they often damage the stator. Because of this, and a decent amount of work to get to the stator/flywheel area in the motor, it is very smart to replace them both at the same time.

Hi, you mean the starter clutch gears? You just need to rotate the clutch on the back of the flywheel a bit until you find the right position, it will slip into place easily.

@@Rmstatorinc the hi /lo/rev gears. Mines a foot shift and when I changed the stator (Rm stator) the transfer gears came off when I pulled the cover. Now it'll either jump out of hi, won't go in rev or not engage at all. I've tried 4 different positions. Thank you for taking the time to reply. You have just gained a loyal customer.

Was this on one of our stators? Thank you for the information. That would be the wires for the position sensor / kickback prevention coil. It does need to be in the correct polarity to allow spark on those models.

I recently replaced a flywheel for my quad with one of yours and I was very careful to watch for the washers when I pulled the stator cover off (i believe one was on each side of the gear shift gear) but now once i barely snug the case bolts the starter doesnt seem to want to turn the engine over. What am i missing?? I've had it apart 3 times now and getting frustrated....please help!

@@gregshank268 no yet, the only thing I can figure as of right now is the gasket I received was the wrong one so I figured I'd use gasket maker (black silicone oil resistant gasket stuff) my thoughts are that possibly the thickness of the gasket is just enough to "shim" it out just a tad. Waiting on my new gasket to see if that helps. Mine is the automatic and it doesn't have as many gears or washers and the manuals do. There are only two washers in mine and I'm pretty certain they're in the right place

Hi Ken, sorry I have never heard of this problem. I've installed many of these kits myself and never had an issue. Our gaskets are the same thickness as OEM, should not be causing that problem. I think you are right on the washers, the video should show that in detail, it's been awhile since I've installed one and I don't recall the exact order. Is the starter clutch on the flywheel meshed well with the starter gear?

Yeah so the problem is that on the left side of the cover theres a pin that doesnt stay straight (it's part of a gear I think) and you have to use something to put it back into the slot on the cover and you should be good to go

question- I bought one of these flywheel kits and I have the flywheel, stator and pick up coil installed. There is bit on the description online where I ordered the kit that says you must adjust the air gap between the flywheel and the pick up sensor by rotating the flywheel and using a feeler guage to find .010". How does one do this? In order to rotate the the flywheel and get a guage in there the side cover must be off. But the pick up sensor is bolted to the side cover.
